Maybe some people say, "This is the best milk I ever had, this cow's not getting away!" :)

I really hate that analogy.

Afterall, the dairy farmers I know need to taste the milk from any cow they are thinking of buying.

The analogy also demeans the marriage relationship as a trade. Milk (sex) for money is not something you want to compare with marriage.

This is not a Christian saying - it's a girls's mother's saying.

Why should he buy the cow when he gets the milk for free?

The implications shed a lot of light on pre-1960's thinking, and are in my view somewhat depressing: sex as a reward with a dollar value to a man, marriage as the purchase of the woman, wife as cow - the list goes on. I wonder if the girl's Mother realises how insulting this analogy is to her daughter, or if she does, and it is said only to hurt.

Definitely not Christian.

Just because people do it does not mean it is the right thing to do. Buying the cow also makes reference to demanding a commitment. A commitment is what should be the goal of every woman and man, not sleeping together before marriage! Those that enjoy the pleasures of marriage should be married FIRST! This way, there is an honorable union of two people in God's eyes. Fully entitled to taste the pleasures of the marriage bed. Honored and respected by all. Peace to you.

Who would buy a cow without knowing how the milk it produces tastes first? And the problem with STD's and aids could be combated with education! Not ignoring the problem and thinking your teenagers won't have sex if you don't talk about it.

Because its about respecting your body. Respecting it enough not to open it up for STD's that may kill you. IE: Aids, or ones that stay with your entire life: ie: Herpes.

Yes.....how sweet it would be to get married and forget to tell your spouse or partner you have herpes, yet, upon closer inspection, they SEE the boils on your private parts. Talk about ...wow!

Its an example....not a literal term.

I mean, really......do you appreciate being called a COW?

Come on folks!

*to the original poster, just because MOST have done it, does make it the best thing to do.

I mean, think about this when you are having sex with someone who is NOT committed to YOU in marriage.

You are having SEX literally with every other women OR MAN he had sex with. Does that make YOU feel special by any means?

Dear Lawd...not I!

Yuck!

Who would buy a cow without tasting the milk first? That's bad business.

Besides, what woman likes to be compared to a cow? And who wants to be 'bought' anyway?

That's a really horrible expression any way you look at it.

You remind me of the old joke about the guy talking to his wife on the wedding night...

MAN : Honey....Am..I... the first ?

WOMAN : Could be...you look familiar

The cow thing is true, just nowadays some people marry the cow and then shortly head back to the herd.

Because it may give someone an occasion to pause and think about what they are doing and because there are people that will not buy the cow when they can get the milk for free.

Those same people you are talking about for the most part have gone thru many partners

They didn't "buy the milk" on any but the last one

I have actually heard MANY a non-Christian use that exact saying. It is certainly not a "Christian saying" and I think that it is used because sometimes it is true. There ARE some people who choose to not marry because they have it all now, so what is the point of marrying? That is not to say ALL people, but some.

I never heard that before but it sounds to me like thats the intended purpose not to have sex before marriage, or that the "milk" isnt just speaking of sex alone.

The problem with testing the cow first is that you will never ever know what sex is like when you do it God's way and wait. You see, God blesses obedience .

its a sterotype...its not a 100% theory...some guys will not buy the cow...its more to the person then the act itself

food for thought!

;-)

1Cr 7:2 Nevertheless, [to avoid] fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

P.S. you a peeping tom?

Just wondered...."when most ppl that get married HAVE had sex with eachother before many times"

It is just one more in a series of lame arguments used to support the failed concept of abstinence "education".

"Most people" have done a lot of things--that don't make it right. You are right, I guess, that most people do that these days, but then again, most people suffer lots of consequences for it too--which tells you by itself (without even reading the bible), that it's not the right thing to do.

well i dont know if they do, but it is still true. Why get married when you can stay single and still get laid. just b/c something is common doesn't mean it is right.

I'm Christian and I have never heard that saying before.
