Question:
I'm interested in learning more about Islam... can someone help?
?

I would just like some information about the basic beliefs of Islam and the practices that it entails.
Also, if I convert, what do I have to do to start living the lifestyle? I am a white female living in the Midwest in the USA, so I imagine that I would stick out like a sore thumb. I know I'd have to wrap my hair, but what else?

Also, what is the difference between the different Muslim groups? Is it necessary to join one specifically or is it okay to just be a... nondenominational Muslim, I guess?

I'd especially be interested in conversion stories, like how you did it, what your life is like now, etc.

I know this is a long question! Thank you for answering!

The best way to start learning about Islam is to visit a reputable website that is not involved in fundamentalism.

Here is a website of the most forward group in Islam. Their motto is "LOVE FOR ALL HATRED FOR NONE" and they are the most peaceful with mission established in 200 countries. There is a 24/7/365 1/4 satellite program free which can be accessed from this website also. I am a member of this group and I am extremely happy to be a part of a peaceful sect of Islam.....none can compare but see for yourself.

The basic beliefs are outlined in simple language and hundreds of questions relating to Islam and social issues are asked and answered by the Spiritual Leader of the group.

Regarding your dress - just dress modestly. It is better to cover your head when in public and a lot of my American friends felt shy to do so in the beginning but once done, they (all) felt so good that they would not go without a scarf after the experience.

There are many Muslim groups and it can become confusing but only if you get very deep into the philosophy and Islamic jurisprudence otherwise any (non-fundamentalist) group will be okay. You can tell from the literature you will be reading.

There is a whole book about stories from converts. It is not yet available online but I have the proof in a file which I can email to you (my brother is the Editor in Chief and he gave me a copy to proof read so I can email that you you) Write to me: salma82786 @yahoo.com and give me your email address and i will forward you a copy.

Can we find an explanation of the great universe? Is there any convincing interpretation of the secret of existence? We realize that no family can function properly without a responsible head, that no city can prosperously exist without sound administration, and that no state can survive without a leader of some kind. We also realize that nothing comes into being on its own. Moreover, we observe that the universe exists and functions in the most orderly manner, and that it has survived for hundreds of thousand of years. Can we then say that all this is accidental and haphazard? Can we attribute the existence of man and the whole world to mere chance.

Man represents only a very small portion of the great universe. And if he can make plans and appreciate the merits of planning, then his own existence and the survival of the universe must also be a planned policy. This means that there is an extraordinary power to bring things into being and keep them moving in order.

In the world then must be a great force in action to keep everything in order. In the beautiful nature there must be a Great creator who creates the most charming pieces of art produces every thing for a special purpose in life. The deeply enlightened people recognize this creator and call him Allah "God". He is not a man because no man can create or make another man. He is not an animal, nor he is a plant. He is neither an Idol nor is He a statue of any kind because non of these things can make itself or create anything else. He is different from all these things because he is the maker and keeper of them all. The maker of anything must be different from and greater than things which he makes.

There are various ways to know God "ALLAH'' and there are many things to tell about him. The great wonders and impressive marvels of the world are like open books in which we can read about God. Besides, God Himself comes to our aid through the many Messengers and revelations He has sent down to man. These Messengers and revelations tell us everything we need to know about God.

The complete acceptance of the teachings and guidance of God 'Allah' as revealed to His Messengers Muhammad is the religion of Islam. Islam enjoins faith in the oneness and sovereignty of Allah, which makes man aware of meaningfulness of the Universe and of his place in it. This belief frees him from all fears and superstitions by making him conscious of the presence of the Almighty Allah and of man's obligations towards Him. This faith must be expressed and tested in actions, faith alone is not enough. Belief in one God requires that we look upon all humanity as one family under the universal Omnipotence of God the Creator and Nourisher of all. Islam rejects the idea of chosen people, making belief in God and good actions the only way to heaven. Thus, a direct relationship in established with God, without any intercessor.

Islam is not a new religion. It is, in essence, the same message and guidance which Allah revealed to all Prophets. Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ismael, David, Moses and Jesus (PBUT). But the message which was revealed to Prophet Mohammed (PBUT) is Islam in its comprehensive, complete and final form.

The Quran is the last revealed word of Allah and the basic source of Islamic teachings and laws. The Quran deals with the basis of creeds, morality, history of humanity, worship, knowledge, wisdom, God-man relationship, and human relationship in all aspects. Comprehensive teaching on which, can be built sound systems of social justice, economics, politics, legislation, jurisprudence, law and international relations, are important contents of the Quran. Hadith, the teachings, sayings and actions of Prophet Mohammed (PBUT), meticulously reported and collected by his devoted companions. Explained and elaborated the Quranic verses.

I am Muslim and proud, you dont HAVE to put on a shawl, duvet your face and frame. Thats your option, and also you dont must pray five occasions an afternoon EXACTLY to stick Muslim. Eid is the largest vacation, in which every body prays and deliver presents to one another, cash or different stuff. Good Luck. I wish i helped.

Hit the Internet and the library and while you're there, look up "Fast Facts on False Teachings" by Ron Carlson.

It will only take you 10 minutes to read the truth about Islam and it's all documented.

Take the time before you take that step off the cliff.

DO You know what Muslim Is?? First research that, the history goes back to the old testament. Make sure you aren't getting into it without knowing what it is. I am christian and I base my whole lifestyle and dress style and eating style according to biblical design. Be very careful. Some Islam can be dangerous teachings. Not all but some hate christians. Do your research on the history. It is of persian influence of the lineage of Ishmael, rival of Isaac. I don't think it was intended to be bad. Pray about it ask god to guide you. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in alll your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path. Remeber the Quran is not the inspired word of god but a doctrine of their personal belief, that is what makes it different. The nation of Islam was here way before any man decided to change that. Ishmael and Isaac. Read in Genesis.

God bless

P.S. I believe in god, I believe in Love.. I believe in one god. I am well knowlegable in the old testament. If you read the old testament it talks about abraham and noah and moses. They all believe in one god. Now if you look at the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 53, it talks about christ who is too come. So the prophets speak of him. There has to be an intercessor. Like in the old testament the blood of animals only covered the sin and never cleansed the sin. Jesus is an intercessor. The word god says that no man cometh to the father but through the son. It is sad that even some of the Jews do not believe in Jesus is the messiah even if the old testament speaks of him. How can someone say they speak of Noah and the prophets and clearly ignore the teaching of the prophets in the old testament. Learn your history so no one can tell you lies. Educate yourself. The story is that Abraham was told by god that he was to have a son. Isaac was to be chosen, but Abram disobeyed. He had a child with Sarais hand maiden appointed by Sarai. When Abram finally had Isaac like god promised, Sarai sent away the boy and the mother. She was persian. God told her that he would bless Ishmael with 12 princes. I do not believe that the Islam nation would be without god, but they did not also live under the lineage of Abram and somewhere along the line I believe that some things got lost. I support the ideal for god of all things, but no man cometh to the father but through the son. Adam lost that right in the garden when he disobeyed god. He gave his dominion to the devil and that is why Jesus had to redeem us. No more covering of sin, but washing of sin. Nothing unclean can enter into the kingdom of heaven.

I am muslim by choice , and thats for the following reasons that i found after study :

1- The view of Jesus and Mary in islam:

In islam jesus is looked at as a moderate view between two extreme views , jews humiliate jesus and his mother , whereas christians worship jesus and this thing jesus denied and refused .

in the bible there has been altering but still there are in the bible sayings of jesus that makes us know the truth.

let us take an example of jesus saying "My God" in the bible, one can find that in alot of places in the bible like :

< after one of the scribes asked him Which is the first commandment of all? Jesus answered him, (The first of all commandments {is}, Hear, O Israel The Lord our God is one Lord ) Mark 12: 28 to 33 (K.J.V.)>

and:

< Jesus in the gospel of John said “I ascend unto my God, and your God”. John 20:17 KJV >

and in alot of other places ... we find jesus saying "My God" and praying to "his God"

this word [my God] or [Our God] that jesus said means that we have a common God we and jesus, God means creator this means we r both created and raised by the same God,, we as well as jesus

we always see jesus saying (my God) and praying to him why don't we just worship the God of jesus , that is; the creator of jesus

its amazing how jesus used to call God : (My God) and (Our God ) many times in the bible , God is the one who creats and rises that means jesus always used to say : (my creator).

which agrees with islam view of jesus as human prophet and no more than that.

Mary

also mary is considered in islam , as a very great woman and the purest woman on earth , but not as mother of God !! whom he had made pregnant !, nor his gf!

@@@

furthermore, In nicia council constantine forced people on only 4 gosepels , and burned alot of gosepels that said jesus was only a human prophet no more, and he killed those who oposed trinity , thus forcing trinity on christians ,

Constantine was a roman pagan all his life , he wanted to be called christian but he also wanted to maintain his roman believes , so what he did was that he inserted the pagan beliefs of trinity and idol or statues glorifying and worshiping into christianity , thus deviating christianity from the true word of God ..

thats why nowadays muslims r the real christians (followers of jesus) cause they follow the belief that jesus used to believe and the things he used to command , and they dont follow a diverted or a pagan originated believe.

Conclusion:

i found that islam is the only religion that claims absolute uniqness of God and really means it and thus islam is the only religion today that follow the first commandment of all commandments to moses and jesus and mohammed which is :

"For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, [is] a jealous God:" [Exodus 34:14]

and jesus said:

after one of the scribes asked him Which is the first commandment of all? Jesus answered him, "The first of all commandments is, Hear, O Israel The Lord our God is one Lord" [Mark 12:28to33]

and in Quran : " 1.Say, "He is God [who is] One, 2.God, the Eternal Refuge. 3.He neither begets nor is born, 4.Nor is there to Him any equivalent. " (112:1)

islam is simplicity , clearness , direct teachings , and absolute uniqness of God , no embeded paganism or multi Gods.
