Yes, it does sound very evil. That's why it's not the God of the Bible who does this, but deceived Christians who don't know their Bilbes that turn thousands away from God because of this pernicious teaching. Actually Revelation 20:14 tells us that even death and hell have an end. And notice in Jude 7 it says Sodom and Gomorrah were punished with the vengeance of eternal fire, but we know that they are not still burning today. The thing that is burned with hellfire, will only burn until it is consumed away into smoke and then they are no more. It is eternal punishment, not eternal punishing. The fate of the wicked men and angels is to be burned up in the final hellfire, to be consumed away and to be no more. To be ashes under out feet, and a smoke that rises up forever into the heavens (Ezekiel 28:18; and Malachi 4:1-3; Revelation 14:11). The so-called eternal torment, is actually the knowledge unto death that they shall be forever separated from life and the world and God and heaven -- eternal oblivion. This final hellfire death is called the second death, and is the final death that the wicked will suffer. They will have been raised in the second resurrection just to receive the second death (John 5:28, 29; Revelation 20:4-9), precisely because all the saints determined that these men and angels deserve to suffer more than the unwicked person who simply did not make it to heaven. This is what the thousand years in heaven with Jesus and the saints is all about -- they shall be determining why Jesus adjudged the wicked the way he did, so that they may be satisfied, and they also meet out justice in this final hell, in how long each individual is to suffer before they die out (1 Corinthians 6:1-3). The fact that death, even the second death is simply an unconscious sleep is taught in many places in the Bible -- like Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10; Psalm 146:4; Job 14:12, 21; John 11:11. There is no knowledge in the grave, their thoughts perish with them. For those who suffer the final hell, it shall be eternal oblivion. And no more.

ACTUALLY, what you are describing is a pagan Roman (and Zoroastrian) view. The bible doesn't say that... I'm talking about the original Greek and Hebrew scriptures. What you're referring to is a Catholic 'theology' which still contaminates many a church today, and worse has heavily influenced translators - probably because of the influence of the 5th century Latin Vulgate translation. FOREVER and ETERNITY are based on the Greek 'Ainios' which is better translated as 'era' or 'age'... in other words 'undefined' periods of time. Since it doesn't define how long, I give God the benefit of the doubt and assume the time period must be adjusted to each individual. This is what a loving God would do. The fire, references a place called Gehenna, a place where they burn't there rubbish at the time. Since rubbish burned and was consumed - it didn't burn forever, I think it is stretching the analogy to think punishment would be permanent. I personally don't believe it is a fire, but rather simply an eternal death versus and eternal life choice - not a eternal torture in hell versus an eternal life choice. In fact a strong argument can be made - especially in the OT - that 'hell' actually refers to the grave... the Hebrew word is 'Sheol'.

How do you feel living in a world with murderers? Or rapists? Or child molestors? I could go on and on but you get the point. What kind of God would continue to allow this for eternity. At some point it has to end. And it will. Lets face it. There are some very sick and evil people out there and the second death(death of the soul) should and will happen because they earned it. And those who are evil including Satan will be cast into the lake of fire. They won't burn forever and ever like people think they will. They will be blotted out by Almighty God their very existence will be blotted out and it will be as if they never existed. Not sure about you but heaven doesn't sound so good if murderers and the like are allowed. Sounds like deja vu to me...

God has told us that if we fail to truly accept Jesus as savior we will not spend eternity with Him, but seperated from HIm. I am not sure how valid the traditional description of hell is, just that such a seperation would be worse than what we know or can imagine. Nothing good/comfortable/pleasurable. Constant unsatisfiable hunger, thirst, and pain. Forever alone. Fire is, I believe, the worst thing imaginable when the Bible came into being. God didn't physically write the Bible, His Spirit caused it t be written, and fire was the harshest, most painful thing at that time. God tosses no one anywhere, just grants us what we want. If one wants no God/refuses to knows Him, He will not force HImself on anyone. If you don't want Him, you'll miss Him even if you don't accept His reality now. The time is growing short. The time is fast approaching when He will take His children home, leaving everyone else to an eternity of evil, pain, loneliness, no good of any kind.

SOULS ARE NOT SUFFERING IN AN UNDERWORLD.

(2 John 1) God's faithful Bible Students surely agree with Solomon’s words: “A live dog is better off than a dead lion. For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all. All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [mankind’s common grave], the place to which you are going.”—Eccl. 9:4, 5, 10.

The Jews were in a position to know the truth about the dead. When Greece was divided among the generals of Alexander the Great, however, efforts were made to unite Judah with Syria by such means as Greek religion and Hellenic culture. As a result, the Jews accepted the false teachings that the human soul is immortal and that there is an underworld place of torment. The Greeks did not originate the idea of an underworld full of suffering souls, for the Babylonians thought of “the nether world as a place full of horrors, presided over by gods and demons of great strength and fierceness.” (The Religion of Babylonia and Assyria) Yes, the Babylonians believed in the immortality of the soul.

Although the righteous man Job did not have the Scriptures, he knew the truth about death. He also realized that Jehovah is a loving God who would have a yearning to resurrect him. (Job 14:13-15) Abraham too believed in the resurrection. ( Hebrews 11:17-19.) Since it is impossible to resurrect someone who cannot die, those God-fearing men did not believe in the immortality of the human soul. God’s spirit undoubtedly helped Job and Abraham to understand the state of the dead and to exercise faith in the resurrection.

Hellfire is certainly not a Bible teaching. There is no such terrible place. The true God of the Bible is love (1 John 4:8) and would not create a place of fiery torture.

The Hebrew & Greek words Hades & Sheol are translated as hell, pit, or grave. When those words are used they simply mean the grave of mankind.

Edit in response to you...

You obviously are unaware that Revelation is mostly symbolic. So, did you think that the ten headed beasts therein were literal too?

If you would like to have a Bible study with me I'd be happy to oblige

1. I don't find it odd, because he doesn't threaten to put people in fire for eternity. Hell is never forever. Rev. 20:12-14.

2. Of course it sounds evil, but the reality is finite punishment for finite sin.

3. No, that's not what I believe God will do.

My God doesn't do that and I am a Bible believing Christian. I understand your concern though.

The teaching of hell started off with an apostate religion and was adopted by almost every Christian religion without a logical question like "How could a God who is love torture people forever?"

It was a huge source of revenue for this apostate religion and still is today. Currently they are one of the largest corporations in the financial world.

As long as it continues to make money I suppose the lie will continue. The majority of Christianity is not what we think it is unfortunately. There is a serious desire to mislead. We must remember in this that Christ is who He says He is even if His so called Church is not.

Romans6:23 Wages sin pays is death

So when you die you have paid for your sins.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 The dead know nothing at all. So when your dead you feel no pain.

So to answer your question,

Jehovah is a God of Love 1John4:8

Burning someone in a fire for eternity would contradict what kind of God he is.

This is not what the Bible teaches. Those who disobey God will be destroyed. When something is destroyed, it's brought to an end, blotted out. Wicked ones will simply die.

Adam and Eve were perfect and deliberately sinned against God, and at no time did God say to them that they would go to a burning hell to burn forever. At Genesis 3:19 He said: For dust you are and to dust you will return.

The hellfire teaching is a reason why many do not want to get to know God. Satan is very happy to see that the ones who continue to keep this lie going, is the very ones who claim to be serving God.

This is why it is so important to make an indepth study of the Bible for one's self, to come to understand what the meanings of certain terms and symbols are that's used in the Bible. Others like to use this as an excuse to not serve God. Many people completely ignore the comforting message in the Bible. They completely ignore God's promise of true peace and security. They overlook or call a myth, the love God and his son showed by making arrangements for us to gain life, even though our first parents lost that for us.

They never talk about the everlasting life God promises to those who will and do obey him. They never talk about God's love.

Revelation 21:8 is speaking of a symbolic lake not a literal lake. When the bible speaks of the lake of fire it's referring to total destruction. Second death means that those destroyed by God will have no hope of living again. This is why Revelation 20:14 speaks of death and hades beening thrown into lake of fire as well. Very soon God will do away with death forever. Revelation 21:4

Wow, you have no clue what the Bible says do you? You're just spouting off on something you think you heard. First, no where does god threaten anyone for "not being good". In fact the Bible tell us "no one is righteous". You choose Hell all by yourself, even in the face of overwhelming evidence, by denying the existence of God. Belief in Christ is what saves you, a gift from God, not your actions. So that pretty much nullifies the rest of your uninformed query.

He makes no such threats....

You've heard of consequences for actions - it's a natural part of living, of life and of eternity.

He doesn't threaten anything - He gives us this life to prepare, to come to know Him, have faith, become better people, love others, serve our fellowman and because of Christ -we can CHANGE our carnal and sinful hearts and become more godly. As we do what is right in this life we become more & more like Him and less & less the sinful, worldly creatures that this life engenders. The way we spend eternity is in OUR hands and will be BECAUSE of our choices in this life - God is Perfectly loving, perfectly fair and perfectly Just. It's as simple as that.

The concept of hell being an eternal dungeon of fire is a gross misunderstanding of what is written in the Bible. Christians who believe that have it wrong. That word 'hell' has been taken way out of context and distorted.

you got your facts wrong ... 100%.

- if youre not good after you die? -

after death, the book on the individual is closed.

good and bad deeds take place while we live NOT after we die.

during our lifetime, WE decide whether we want to go to heaven or hell ... this is God's freedom of choice to every living soul.

if we decide we want to go to heaven, then to Jesus we go ... worship Him as our Lord n Saviour. Cos no other name will allow you entry into heaven.

if we decide we want to go to hell, then don't worship Jesus.

this is the underlying principle ... to heaven or to hell.

JESUS CHRIST is the criteria.

- your god threatens --

nope, God does not 'threaten' pukes like us.

God spills it out ... as it is ... thru the Holy Bible.

just like a mother would teach her child not to play w fire cos it could burn the house down.

is the mother threatening or teaching the child about the danger of playing w fire? teaching

therefore, get your facts RIGHT before attempting to make a mockery about a subject that you dont know.

The hellfire doctrine is not a biblical teaching. The bible teaches that we are forgiven of our sins at death (Romans 6:7). It also teaches that the dead are conscious of nothing at all (Eccl 9:5). The bible teaches that hell is the common grave. The hellfire teaching was introduced centuries ago by churches to scare people into obedience.

Please see my comment to Craig. Why do you think that is strange or that it is not loving? Punishment has been looked down on with the increase in "Liberal" thinking and with the books by Dr. Spock. His ideas have ruined our country and now he says he was wrong. The word "love" in the new Testament translation of the Greek word "agape" in the original text. agape is a decision to do what is the for the person even if it causes the person giving the agape some suffering.

Christians, do you not find it odd that your god threatens to put you in fire for eternity if youre not good after you die? Demons live inside clones. Bacteriologist Alexandre Yersin (who discovered Bubonic plague) is depicted on the Shroud of Turin. There is another shroud on which blasphemer Yosef (who was crucified on a pole in 1066 AD) is depicted. WW3 happens; 7% of people will be left; after people are tired of war, they will elect the antichrist as one world leader; don't vote. ISIS stands for Israeli Secret Intelligence Service. Next false flag: Statue of Liberty. Move away from coasts as nukes will go off in the ocean (at where tectonic plates meet; result: megatsunamis 1km high). Earth is flat; stands on 3 pillars (the Most Holy Trinity); pillars stand on water at zero Kelvin. Zodiac is planetary prison of demons; don't believe in horoscopes or you'll exhibit the traits of the trapped demons. Most thoughts and dreams are from demons; demons never do good. Sleep fully clothed; pray the Jesus prayer. Pray to your guardian angel to have normal sleep. Vyacheslav Krasheninnikov was the last prophet before Enoch and Elijah return to preach against the antichrist. According to Ruski Orthodox Christian Vyacheslav Krasheninnikov: Humans were created about 7525 years ago.

Birds participate in time creation. It's a sin to kill birds. Dinosaurs live under our level. They will get out through sinkholes and lakes. To kill them, go for their nerves. Save the birds; but kill the dinosaurs. First dinosaur will come out of Volga River in Russia. Demons grow human skin (from a sample taken during abduction) and put it on so as to look like us. Demons will invite people to be healed inside their UFOs; those who go will be like zombies after. Gov't provides demons with diamonds and allows demons to abduct people. If you're being abducted, slowly pray the Jesus prayer.

Don't panic. Demons use diamonds and souls to power their UFO craft. The bigger the diamond, the more it lasts. Demons have 4 UFO bases: 1)Moon 2)Inside fake mountain Kailash in Tibet 3)In lake Baikal in Russia 4)In Atlantis which is underneath the Mariana Trench in Pacific Ocean. There are no aliens. Nobody lives on other planets. Airplanes that go down are hit by demons because they need the airspace to fight Jesus. Antichrist is pale with red eyes. He's possessed by Satan since he's 12 years old. He flies. He wears gloves to hide long nails. He's surrounded by demons who appear as angels of light.

Don't go into a UFO to be healed by demons. 666 is given by isotope rays on wrist or forehead when people stretch hands to receive small plastic grey card with no name on it (World Passport). Police will microchip and isotope ray people on highways. Food stores will isotope ray people too. Antichrist will also release prisoners to mark people. Reject 666 at all cost. If you're about to be marked, pray the Jesus prayer. Hide with Orthodox Christians to escape 666; leave all electronics behind so that antichrist's minions can't track you. Give to charity in the name of Archangel Michael; he rescues people from hell twice a year (or brings them up a level, that is, to a level with less punishment; eventually, people are freed). Feed the pigeons; when pigeons bow down, people are saved from hell. Forgive me.

Not odd at all. Most people and all evil spirits will always be evil and choose evil. It is for these that God made a place of eternal torment.

In Hell there is constant torment. After the 1000 year Millennium Reign of Christ, souls in Hell will be cast into the eternal Lake of Fire where they together with Satan and all demons will be tormented forever (Revelation 20:10). At that time, both Hell and death will also be dumped into the Lake of Fire. The Lord Jesus Christ preached many times on Hell to sufficiently warn us.

JESUS DESCRIBES HELL:

Mark 9:44-48

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

THE LORD JESUS DESCRIBES HELL AS AN ACTUAL PLACE IN THE AFTERLIFE:

Luke 16:22-24

“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

THE LORD JESUS SAYS IT IS A PLACE OF WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH:

"There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. (Luke 13:28)

Hell and the Lake of Fire are very real and we need to make the Son of God Jesus Christ our personal Saviour and Lord in order to enter Heaven. After a person's death, if the shed blood of Christ is not covering them, God is not going to accept them into Heaven. They would go to Hell and then be thrown into the Lake of Fire prepared for the devil and his demons.

The Lord Jesus Christ preached numerous times about Hell, not to scare the people but to reveal the truth, and show where those who reject God by rejecting Him end up. For those of us who have not received the actual visions of Hell and the Lake of Fire, what more proof do we need?

GOD THE SON (JESUS CHRIST) PREACHING ABOUT HELL:

Matthew 5:28,29…

“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”

Matthew 16:18…

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Matthew 23:33-34

“Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city."

Mark 9:45,46…

“And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”

Luke 10:15…

“And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.”

Luke 12:5…

“But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”

Revelation 1:18…

“I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

Matthew 25:41

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST REVEALED THE LAKE OF FIRE TO JOHN IN VISIONS:

Revelation 20:10

And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Revelation 21:8

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Revelation 20:15

And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:14

Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.

Revelation 19:20

And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

REDEMPTION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

Because mankind is incapable of meeting God’s standard of perfection necessary to abide in God’s presence (Romans 3:19-20,23), God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the total debt for the believer’s sins and mercifully credits to his account Christ’s righteousness (Romans 3:21-28,5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21). Jesus’ gracious act of atonement was complete and covers all sin (Colossians 2:13-14; 1 John 1:9). Salvation is not based on good deeds but according to the mercy of God (Titus 3:4-5). Believers are justified by faith; it is a gift by God’s grace (Romans 4:3-8; Ephesians 2:8-9). A true, living faith will result in a desire to live a holy, loving life of good works (Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 5:6; James 2:14-26), but failure to be absolutely successful at righteous living does not negate the believer’s justified status.

If you sincerely say this prayer, your sins will be washed away, you will be redeemed to God, be saved from eternal torment and inherit the Kingdom of God:

"Dear Jesus,

I am a sinner.

I repent of my sins.

Please forgive me and save me by your shed blood;

come into my heart.
