Question:
How old is the earth; and when did tracking time begin?

At times I watch programs and hear information indicating that the world is billions of years old. Carbon dating etc.has provided information that we are more than 2008 years old. How old are we? Someone told me that tracking time by days, weeks, months and years is recent. I told him that God established a weekly cycle during creation. He countered by telling me the 969 years that Methuselah lived was really 969 moons. To prove his point, he challenged my thoughts by saying if someone in a shipwreck was washed ashore with amnesia and no timepiece, how would that person know when it was Wednesday or Sunday? I could not answer- especially since we depend on a 24 hour clock. His assertions about time has a ring of truth as there are different calendars and time tracking methods that are in use in 2008.How would we track the days of the week and time without a watch or clock if we were stranded and had amnesia?

Hello, Aioffe:

There are many dating systems that show a young earth, such as the collapse rate of mountains, mineralization of the ocean, declining speed of light, magnetic and gravitational pull decreases, etc; even the radio carbon dating is erroneous?

Why, because radio carbon has not reached equilibrium yet, and it takes just a few millenniums for that, not millions of years. And before the flood, there was a water barrier, so cosmic-ray bombardment could not synthesize c14 from n12.

People before the flood lived a long life in a perfect agrarian environment without pollution or radiation from outer space. After we lost our protective canopy, men began to degenerate gradually. Even many Patriarchs lived over 100 years; with healthy lifestyles, we are approaching that figure again.

Bible chronology, when you a add up Biblical dates and years, places creation about 4,004 BC, and this is substantiated in the Bible code: www.abiblecode.com which outlines the precise boundaries of the cosmic conflict and proves Jesus is the Messiah

Well, your "shipwreck" example is quite relevant because that person wouldn't care much what day it was, would he?

The days of the week and the months simply add some order to our lives nothing else. People in old societies just used "day and night", and the seasons to sort of track time. After all what did they care what day it was? Everyday was a work day then.

The movie "Castaway" shows this quite well. And I am sure that if this really happened and it probably has in the past, the person lost track of time and actually thought little about it. Although the person may keep track of the days, (counting the days), each day itself would not matter as to what day it actually was, it would be simply a day.

The moment the planets and stars began motion around each other the original and largest clock started ticking. Measuring time has always been based on the movements of the planets.... the earth and sun for example.

Because a person may have amnesia, or in a coma, or even dead, has no bearing on the movement of the planets or the passing of time.

There are different calendars, different methods of marking time, but the same amount of time passes. What about converting miles to kilometers? Different numbers on paper..... same distance in actual length.

probably about 4.57 Billion years old. The Bible actually supports this when it says the Earth is a creation of old. If by tracking time you mean the beginning of people making calenders, then the oldest calender found dates back to around 3000 BC in ancient egypt based on the movement and changes of the sun, moon and stars in the sky daily & yearly.

Tracking of time began when God created the first day in Gen 1:5......some said a day started with sunrise and ended in sunset, others said the day started at sunset and ended at sunrise.....both are same.

Physicist Thomas Barnes argues " It takes but one proof of a young-age limit on the earth, the moon , or the sun to refute the whole gamut of evolution. there are many proofs. Lord Kelvin gave two young-age proofs that have never really been

falsified.....there is much more evidence of a young-age of the earth, moon, ans sun now than at the time of Kelvin....There is no lack of scientific evidences of a young-age for the earth, moon, sun and of other astronomical bodies. There is no lack of sound physical theories upon which to found those proofs.".....Courtesy--Darwin's Leap Of Faith , by John Ankerberg & John Weldon

The earth is 4.5 Billion yrs. old. We are between 100 thousand years and 250 thousand years old as a species.

The discrepancy is due to the fact that the experts do not all agree on what defines the separation of our species from the Neanderthals and from earlier hominids such as homo erectus.

In terms of your questions about time, days, moons and years are all easy and natural ways to count time, without any need for special equipment or tools.

The Bible does not say how old the earth is and only when man was created man was able to track time and he started from the time he was created.

Starting From the Pivotal Date. The pivotal date for counting back to Adam’s creation is that of Cyrus’ overthrow of the Babylonian dynasty, 539 B.C.E. Cyrus issued his decree of liberation for the Jews during his first year, before the spring of 537 B.C.E.

particular, and that they thrive now, even nonetheless their British friends push Catholisicm. Their God resembles the community American's great Spirit in that those tribes that committed to themselves to Him have been a technique or the different void of illnesses or different plagues whilst different people from different countries arrived of their lands, speaking a pair of Pope and bowing right down to a king. isn't it wonderful how the previous testomony Jews have been lots the comparable way, having God as their guiding gentle, having basically to have faith in Him replaced into their thank you to fulfillment. God is extremely omnipresent, He has had this plan on the grounds that earlier devil lied to Adam and Eve.

The Earth is 6,000 years old. Track the time in the Bible to the very days now. You will see. And people who say the Earth is billion's of years old....Where's your proof!!!??? The Bible is ours for the 6,000 years old!

the earth is about 4,5 billion years old.

There's a lot of calender cycles (like the Chinese calender, the Maya calender, the Hebrew calender or the Gregorian calender we use)

your island man would be able to observe the sun, the moon and the stars I think..

O.K. First off carbon dating is fallacious [check it out, science has proved it] second Methusela didn't have amnesia, and third what is the difference between days + moons?
