Do you think the Koran is open to gross misinterpretations?

Muslims must fight until all their opponents submit to Islam. (KORAN, Sura 9:29)

When the sacred months have passed, kill the idolaters where ever you find them. (KORAN, Sura 9.5)

A Muslim must not take a Jew or a Christian for a friend. (KORAN, Sura 5:51)

When you encounter the unbelievers, Strike off their heads. Until you have made a wide slaughter among them tie up the remaining captives. (KORAN, Sura 47.4)

Resisting Islam is punished by death, crucifixion or the cutting off of the hands and feet. (KORAN, Sura 5:33)

Remember thy lord has inspired the angels with the message. Give firmness to the believers and instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. Smite them above their necks and smite the fingertips off them. (KORAN, Sura 8.12)

I believe that the Islam religion is FALSE, since its holy book, the Koran, contradicts my holy book, the Holy Bible.

2 Corinthians 11:13 (KJ21, 21st Century King James Version)

13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

Galatians 1:8-9 (KJ21, 21st Century King James Version)

8But should we, or an angel from Heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9As we said before, so say I now again: If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that which ye have received, let him be accursed!

II Peter 2:1 (KJ21, 21st Century King James Version)

1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

Revelation 20:10 (KJ21, 21st Century King James Version)

10And the devil who had deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are; and they shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

YES

all books are open to misinterprations!

if you kill an idolater, how would you know if someone is truly guilty?

if you call all christian infidels, than you cannot interpret anything other than all infidels are christians.

but anyone who marries more than one wife or has sex with a ten year is an adulterer, and a pedophile, these same people deserve to DIE because they completely wicked in the sight of God.

Wait a minute. God is righteous, he will judge. he will reward whether a soul is good or evil. Mankind cannot discern between the innocent soul and the liar. unless they have Truth and facts

But all liars build up a defense of false testimonies and false witnessess.

It depends on how you look at it. I think that from reading the above passages from the Kuran, it is open to gross misinterpretations. But then again, not everyone thinks that way and some people might not be able to fully comprehend these passages and so they might say otherwise. But I have to say that the Kuran is not the only book that is like that. Many other religious books are open to gross misinterpretations. Take the bible for example. I am Christian and I have read many passages like this. So, all I have to tell you is that it depends on how you look at it. I hope that helps.

Two most important points have to be considered here;

1. Translator's or interpretor's command over the two langauge

2. The contest of the verse.

Remember no one can take right meaning out of any script without understanding the full contest.

All these points will be considered invalid if taken out of contest.

This has been a frequent using tool of argumentative people that they take one point from the middle of the speech/statement and try to exploit that.

You have to read several pre and post verses in order to understand these points.

A great islamic scholar named Dr. Zakir Naik has explained these point several time publicly. If you are really searching for truth without any bias, pls visit the site www.irf.net or look for his debates/public talks.

Yes, but so does the Bible and any other religious book.

You are right. Not every person who will read the Koran is literate or has good comprehension skills. What about all of the Christians who DO have good comprehension skills and CAN read, yet choose not to. They take all of their beliefs from a pastor who stands in front of them telling them mostly what they want to hear and interpretting the Bible how they want.

This problem exists within all religious groups.

I agree with ToffeeFan...most religious books, particularly the bible, are, IMHO, grossly misinterpreted. I'd like to think that most of it stems from writing, translating, re-writing, translating again, etc., but I think the reason might be a bit more sinister than that.

There are just too many references to smiting and smoting and the killing of the same sinners that God professes to love for me to believe every word I read.

From all my studies of the Koran, it is very specific and has its stipulated commandments. Those who do not follow those commandments, are to be considered as infidels and be accorded the same fate. Doesn't leave much to interpretation, is line for line specific and demanding. Anything other than what is depicted, refers to how Muslims treat others of the same faith. They do not accord the same for those not of the faith. In effect, when read at length, it presents a picture of pure hatred for anything not of Islam.

The Qur'an is a reflection of the soul.

The Qur'an is aimed to those who think and willing to understand.

The Qur'an is very clear on what it said.

Those who 'misinterpret' the Qur'an are usually ones who are 'literate' and has 'good' comprehension skills, the commoners interpret the Qur'an more correctly than them. The ones who causing problems in this world are the minority, not the majority.

"

Fight those who do not believe in God, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what God and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the compensation in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

" At-Tauba ayat 29

"

So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the musyriks wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and purify, leave their way free to them; surely God is Forgiving, Merciful.

" At-Tauba ayat 5

Musyriks are people claimed to believe only in God, but they also allied themself with another.

"

O you who believe! do not take al-yahooda and al-nasar for representatives; they are representatives of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

" Al-Maidah ayat 51

"

So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom until the war terminates. That; and if God had pleased He would certainly have exacted what is due from them, but that He may try some of you by means of others; and those who are slain in the way of God , He will by no means allow their deeds to perish.

"Muhammad ayat 4

"

The punishment of those who wage war against God and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;

" Al-Maidah ayat 33

"

When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.

" Al-Anfal ayat 12

I believe that all religious material is subject to "gross misinterpretation". Just look at the Bible and what different idealogies have come from it. Some say God hates homosexuals, while others say there's proof in the book that Christ was gay.

I think and feel that people have a tendency to create the religion of their choice into whatever they feel it should be, and build their beliefs around who they are. However, we should all be trying to build ourselves around what we believe.

So is the Bible. A person can find anything they want in it-----to say whatever they want it to say. It is just that now in our times, people are more critical of the Qur'an.

The entire Koran is misleading - it's a false doctrine. The bible is the only TRUE word of God. The Koran was written by a sinful man - not God. God's word was written by holy men of God inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Koran was NOT written by any holy man by God's divine guidance.

Muslims say their religion is peaceful - from what you mentioned above, it sure doesn't sound like it to me.

If it's translated over and over again (not translated from the original each time) then there will be misinterpretations.

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.

He it is who fashions you in the wombs as He wills; there is none worthy of worship but He, the Mighty, the Wise.

He it is who has sent down to thee the Book; in it there are verses that are firm and decisive in meaning - they are the basis of the Book - and there are others that are susceptible of different interpretations. But those in whose hearts is perversity pursue such thereof as are susceptible of different interpretations, seeking to cause discord and seeking wrong interpretations of it. And none knows its right interpretation except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge; they say, 'We believe in it; the whole is from our Lord.' - And none take heed except those gifted with understanding -

'Our Lord, let not our hearts become perverse after Thou hast guided us, and bestow on us mercy from Thyself; surely Thou art the Great Bestower;

You have to remember the context, the verses clearly apply to idolators, and in times of war. So yes it is open to misinterpretation but only if you deliberately do so. And know that God is an ever all watcher of us. And know that you have referenced 5 verses out of 6666. That means 0.0075% of it which had to do with fighting the idolators.

Clearly the neck verse needs the most explanation,

The Command to strike the Enemies' Necks, tighten Their Bonds, and then free Them either by an Act of Grace or for a Ransom

Guiding the believers to what they should employ in their fights against the idolators, Allah says,

(So, when you meet those who disbelieve (in battle), smite their necks) which means, `when you fight against them, cut them down totally with your swords.'

(until you have fully defeated them,) meaning, `you have killed and utterly destroyed them.'

(tighten their bonds.) `This is referring to the prisoners of war whom you have captured. Later on, after the war ends and the conflict has ceased, you have a choice in regard to the captives: You may either act graciously toward them by setting them free without charge, or free them for a ransom that you require from them.' It appears that this Ayah was revealed after the battle of Badr. At that time, Allah reproached the believers for sparing many of the enemy's soldiers, and holding too many captives in order to take ransom from them. So He said then:

(It is not for a Prophet to have captives of war until he had made a great slaughter (among the enemies) in the land. You desire the commodities of this world, but Allah desires (for you) the Hereafter. Allah is Mighty and Wise. Were it not for a prior decree from Allah, a severe torment would have touched you for what you took.) (8:67-68) Allah's saying,

(...until the war lays down its burden.) Mujahid said: "Until `Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him) descends.'' It seems as if he derived this opinion from the Prophet's saying,

«لَا تَزَالُ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي ظَاهِرِينَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ حَتْى يُقَاتِلَ آخِرُهُمُ الدَّجَّال»

(There will always be a group of my Ummah victorious upon the truth, until the last of them fight against Ad-Dajjal.) Imam Ahmad recorded from Jubayr bin Nufayr who reported from Salamah bin Nufayl that he went to the Messenger of Allah and said, "I have let my horse go, and thrown down my weapon, for the war has ended. There is no more fighting.'' Then the Prophet said to him,

(Now the time of fighting has come. There will always be a group of my Ummah dominant over others. Allah will turn the hearts of some people away (from the truth), so they (that group) will fight against them, and Allah will bestow on them (war spoils) from them (the enemies) -- until Allah's command comes to pass while they are in that state. Verily, the center of the believers' abode is Ash-Sham. And goodness is tied around the horses' foreheads till the Day of Resurrection.) An-Nasa'i also recorded this narration. Allah then says,

(Thus, and had Allah so willed, He could have taken vengeance against them;) which means that had He so willed, He could have taken immediate vengeance against the disbelievers with a chastisement or exemplary punishment directly from Him.

(but (He lets you struggle) so as to test with one another.) meaning, He has ordered Jihad and fighting against the enemies in order to try you and test your affairs. Allah also expresses His wisdom by the legislation of Jihad in the following two Surahs, Al `Iman and At-Tawbah, in which He says,

(Or did you think that you would enter the Paradise before Allah had made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast) (3:142)

(Fight them; Allah will then punish them by your hands, disgrace them, grant you victory over them, satisfy the breasts of a believing people, and remove the fury of their (the believers') hearts. Allah turns in forgiveness to whom He wills; Allah is Knowing and Wise.) ( 9:14-15)

That Jew Christian thing is ONLY IN TIMES OF WAR! as not to divulge military secrets.

Its funny how people will show that but not this

[060:007] Perhaps Allâh will make friendship between you and those whom you hold as enemies. And Allâh has power (over all things), and Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[060:008] Allâh does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion nor drove you out of your homes. Verily, Allâh loves those who deal with equity.

[060:009] It is only as regards those who fought against you on account of religion, and have driven you out of your homes, and helped to drive you out, that Allâh forbids you to befriend them. And whosoever will befriend them, then such are the Zâlimûn (wrong doers – those who disobey Allâh).

So clearly since here in America we are dealt with equity and not fought on account of religion we can be friends with Jews and Christians. ( I have many non-muslim friends)
