Why are the USA number one on the medals table on nbc, cnn and foxsports?

Only the american media reports the number of medals to please its viewers, all other countries follow the IOC method of counting the golds which I believe is the correct way to list. After all a silver or a bronze can never be equated to a Gold. The only winners are Gold medallists.



Will Phelps swap his 8 golds for 9 silvers ?

Um. I saw the news on both CNN and NBC this morning and both said "China leads with gold, but the US has a total higher medal count."



Both CNN and NBC usually list the USA first because that's where they are.



As I live on the border, in my morning channel clicking I also saw CANADA listed first on the Canadian channel. I suppose you think they are claiming Canada leads?

As others have mentioned they go by total medal count and not gold count. However many of China's golds are suspect. Several of their gymnasts are thought to be underage. In addition China seems to win gold whenever the decision is left up to judges. If you remove the judged contest golds China's gold medal count gets cut in half.

Funny how every other country in the World counts the total number of golds and only uses silver and bronze to decide in the event of a tied number of gold

The americans have no idea what they are talking about, it wouldn't be the first time.

It's probably got something to do with the "USA is beeter than everyone else, GAWD LUVS US!"



China is first, America second and we Bristish are doing rather well as we are in third. Just goes to show you dont have to be a gigantic capatilising bully to get results.
