If all the people on earth were to intermarry freely, and then break into random groups that kept to themselves, a whole new set of gene combinations would emerge. Even today, within a particular people group you will often see a feature normally associated with another people group. For instance, you will occasionally see a European with a broad flat nose, or a Chinese person with very pale skin or Caucasian eyes. Most scientists now agree that, for modern humans, "race" has little or no biological meaning. This also argues strongly against the idea that the people groups have been evolving separately for long periods.

All nations are of one blood.

Diversity comes from being landed locked after the "waters were divided in the days of Peleg". (Gen)

If Adam and Eve were mid eastern descent their offspring could easily be lighter or darker skinned.

I have both indian and pakistani friends who are light and very very black.

My guess is the races is a matter of time and geography. Obviously Adam and Eve were of one color, but as the human race spread throughout the world, their bodies adapted to the terrain.

This is one of the smallest arguments for a not so much existing issue. The story of Adam and Eve is but a parable, much like the majority of the Old Testament.

Our race comes from Humans adapting to their surroundings. As the tribes of people spread across the Earth, their characteristics changed.

The answer is all about understanding genetics. I am by no means an expert in that area, but if you really want the right answer to your question, follow the link I put here and read the information over a couple of times and it will make sense.

You should research the Table of Nations in Genesis chapter 10 in order to understand that the descendants of Noah's 3 sons Ham, Shem and Jappeth as they migrated from the central location of Mt. Ararat (Eastern Turkey to ancient Mesopotamia also known as the cradle of civilzation) to the varying quadrants of the earth gave rise to various adaptations in the human physique over time such as height, hair, skin and eye color, build and skills and as well dietary needs. All of these changes are manifested in the DNA which has adjusted accordingly with traits and charectoristics while leaving the human being genetically unaltered as a human. From one extreme to another according to climate, diet and cross immagrational and maritime travels you have come to see the various races...the most diverse being the Indo Europeans because they were more inclined to travel into other exotic locals and intermingle and marry into other cultures where traits and charectoristics were more consistant due to close familial gene pools. You have your Northern nordic folks who are tall, light skinned and speak with a gutteral clipped language to the other extreme of shorter statured Alaskan Natives who have bowed legs, hooded eyes, olive skin and speak with a breathier clicking sinus language. The two diets are entirely different too which can bring about differences in "races". There is only one race in the Bible according to God however and that would be the human race. Humans, like any other living thing, adapt to their environment. Many religious people believe in Intelligent Design meaning adaptation and evolution did happen as a result of God's initial creation. Biblically, God's time is different than human time. So essentially, 7 days in God's time could be 7 million years in human time. So saying God created the world in 7 days his time could translate completely differently into our time. It's all based on interpretation and separate beliefs but I think that the ancestors of Adam and Eve settled all over the world and adapted to their environment and developed physical differences as a result.
