Question:
Why do Christians condemn homosexuality, but not all these other things?

The famous Leviticus 20:13

"If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them."

Okay, so we should kill all homosexuals, right? Okay, Christians. But if we are going to follow that part, why not the whole passage? It is the word of god, after all.

Leviticus 20:9

"For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. His blood is upon him. The man who commits adultery with another man's wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death."

Leviticus 20:18

"If a man lies with a woman during her sickness and uncovers her nakedness, he has exposed her flow, and she was uncovered the flow of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from their people."

Hmm, seems god doesn't want you to sleep with a woman on her period. Why does god care about this? Doesn't this sound more like primitive man speaking, not an all knowing entity?

Why do christians think that it is okay to pick and choose versus to believe? Is it maybe because the bible is actually a really messed up book and was written by primitive man?

Are you a christian that also has a house and stuff in it? Did you know that Jesus doesn't want you to have that and you are not a true christian until you get rid of everything you own?

Matthew 6:19

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Luke 14:33

"Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple"

Matthew 6:24

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Money"

Matthew 19:21-24

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Since we are to take the bible as literally as possible, I think the only true christians are homeless, without a single penny. Sell everything you own so that you can be saved. Unless of course you want to admit that some things in the bible need to be taken in cultural context. In that case, the gays and lesbians will have your vote on gay marriage. If you wan't to believe part of the bible but not everything in it, that kind of makes you a hypocrite, doesn't it?

If you would go to Church and personally attend, you would not have to ask that question at all, No excuses. We taech a great many things, Just none you know of because you don't attend

God is NOT imaginary (silly website)

Godisimaginary.com is not the first to claim that God is imaginary. In an article entitled “Theology and Falsification” written many years ago, Anthony Flew, one of the twentieth century’s most outspoken atheists wrote,

Two explorers came upon a clearing in the jungle. In the clearing were growing many flowers and many weeds. One explorer says, “Some gardener must tend this plot.” The other disagrees, “There is no gardener.” So they pitch their tents and set a watch. No gardener is ever seen. . . . Yet still the believer is not convinced. “But there is a gardener, invisible, intangible, insensible to electric shocks, who comes secretly to look after the garden he loves.” At last the Skeptic despairs. “But what remains of the original assertion? Just how does what you call an invisible, intangible, eternally elusive gardener differ from an imaginary gardener or even from no gardener at all?”

Following Flew’s thoughts from decades ago, the web site godisimaginary.com provides what it believes are 50 “proofs” that God does not exist – that He is nothing more than an imaginary gardener, a superstition, a myth. The site claims, “Let's agree that there is no empirical evidence showing that God exists. If you think about it as a rational person, this lack of evidence is startling. There is not one bit of empirical evidence indicating that today's 'God,' nor any other contemporary god, nor any god of the past, exists.”

You do know that we are "under a new covenant", right?

Now, before you get the notion that I'm saying that some of these things are now okay, I'm not.

I believe that all of God's laws still apply...yes, even the law of sacrifice. Christians keep that law by accepting the sacrifice that Jesus made for them once for all.

The laws still apply...the punishment is still death. But it is not the physical death of the body. It is the eternal death of the spirit.

Meantime, remember that sacrifice I mentioned? That's what the sacrifice was and is for...

Yes, I believe that a Christian should be someone who lives as simply as possible...not hoarding more than they need or will ever use while other people go without. I truly do believe that someone who puts their trust in money is destined to be eternally disappointed. Money really can't buy happiness...or peace, or eternal life.

I know a man who walked a way from an extremely successful legal career in Scottsdale Arizona, sold everything he owned and gave most of the money away, and lives in a little houseboat in Florida, with nothing more than his social security check...and he gives most of that away every month. His bank account has been overdrawn so often that the bank is threatening to close his account, his credit rating is in the toilet, and most of his clothes come from the Goodwill or the Salvation Army. About the only thing he owns in the world is that boat...which is barely big enough for even one person to live in.

But I gotta tell you...he is one of the happiest people I have ever known....

Fundamentalists, of ANY religion, are on firmer ideological ground than your moderates.

Thankfully the majority of religious people do not derive their moral code solely from their holy book (if they did I would be frightened to go outside).

If more moderates were fundamental maybe the rest of us would be able to appreciate just how immoral religion can be. Yes yes, there are indeed good Catholics (and good Muslims) all over the world. They're the ones who don't take their religion seriously.

I guess what I am trying to say is you either accept, for example, the tenets of the Qu'ran or you don't (Just want to clear it up. Islam is not a race. Understood? Cool. Moving on). You as an individual may not support stoning adulterers and homosexuals but you do support a god and a book that does. Also any good that religion may provide can be achieved through secular means too.

We don't need God to be good and even if we did we haven't got him. Enjoy your life. It's all you have. Peace.

Hello,

Who ever told you that the new testament is more important than the old, knows nothing about the bible. The whole bible is the word of God. To understand the whole bibl ewe must read the new and the old. They go hand and hand. As for homo relationships, God is against all sin, no matter what. He hates gay marriages and he hate men and women living together. These are all sinful acts.

If we don't like it, talk to God about it.

it is a personal decision how you live your life the perfect man would completely follow all these commands without faltering so far there has been only 1man perfect who did so the rest of this mass group of people that can't possibly be judge as one without hasty generalization is not perfect and shouldn't be held to such standards , nobody has any right to judge anyone else no matter their beliefs backgrounds or mistakes.

it takes maturity to live according to the standards of the bible as well as understand them it also takes maturity not to cast a shadow upon a way of life because some don't follow it as closely as other would like.

might as well ask why if the law specifically states that you should stop at a red light do sports car drivers still run red lights....

Yeah and you can rape your children too according to the bible. Christians are like three year olds arguing over a toy. "No No No, but we don't follow that" "That's not what the writer meant to say" "You taking it out of context" blah blah blah.

Christians should all be put on a boat sent out to the middle of the ocean out of site of land and nuked.

it's GOD we have to fear - and these are HIS commandments as repeated in the NEW Testament

1Cr 6:9 Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,

1Cr 6:10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.

Now that means utter destruction in hell. So now all can make educated choices.

Christians are obsessed with Homosexuality. To get fundies going, just mention gay marriage and they will go off like rockets.

Being gay is not a sin. The Bible does not condemn loving, committed, same-gender relationships.

Christians use the bible as our sole authority. Not the word of any man or any "extra books" that supposedly go with the bible. What the bible says is a sin, we call a sin. We try to turn from all sin, we don't pick and choose which ones we want.

Not all Christians condemn homosexuals and most don't follow everything their bible teaches. Last I checked you don't kill your neighbor for working on a Sunday.
