There is a great book that I had when I was young and I got one for my children when they were young. It is pretty thick and is a big, hard cover. I think it is called "Stories from the Bible." It highlights some of the Bible's most famous stories. It is nicely illustrated. My son devoured it.

He is an atheist, by the way. I introduced both of my children to a variety of religious ideas and let them decide for themselves. My son has been an atheist for longer than I have, so I did not force him into it. :)

Edit:

Pink - it is possible for parents to introduce their children to several ideologies, in general, without forcing their own beliefs down their throat.

Are you showing him all the world religions so he can pick one he likes best? Or are you trying to teach your son to be atheist?

My suggestion: Go to the library and get books on different countries, that is one of the best ways to learn about other cultures and practices.

That would be very difficult to do. What I would recommend is to get him interested in classical literature as religious themes are prevalent in works by authors such as Homer, Virgil, Dante, Milton, Jonathan Swift as well as more recent works by Aldous Huxley and CS Lewis -- Try Lewis' space trilogy for a good yarn.....

Logical? Yeah good.... examine this out: in accordance to a nicely-prevalent professional-Islam internet site: it extremely is an particularly ignorant and defective technique of develop into conscious of music as a form of delight and passing of time, because of the fact the messages of todays music persist with a often used topic of love, fornication, undesirable language, homicide, violence and medicines among many different grime. Can love extremely be blanketed in this 'grime checklist' alongside with homicide? Is love filthy?

In the children's section of bookstores and libraries you should find children's stories on various mythologies - Greek, Chinese, Norse, etc. Get some of those along with kids Bible stories? You can compare Greek and Bible together and discuss various cultures religious viewpoints and that there is more in life than Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

Btw: great job, Mom. Teaching him to think and being willing to discuss religion and myths is a good thing.

You could introduce your son to 'The People: Pilgrimage' and 'The People: No Different Flesh' by Zenna Henderson. Think of it as science fiction about human-like aliens who are deeply spiritual.

You'll probably have to find these books on Amazon, as I'm sure they are both out of print. I loved them as a child.

I don't know of any books about real-life religions which would be both objective and suitable for a seven year-old. The best book I would personally recommend is 'The Cloud of Unknowing,' but it would be way over your son's head. It is a medieval work about Catholic mysticism, how to live the contemplative life.

The Asimov guide to the Bible would be a good choice.

Anything by Issac Asimov. He writes good non fiction and his Guide to the Bible is superb - factual, informative and respectful. I suspect he has other titles. He writes at a 7 year old atheist level, perhaps a 15 year old Christian level.

Mark Twain wrote some nice essays. I liked the one about Captain Stormfield's visit to heaven.

Peter Nichols wrote "Evolution's Captain" about the life of Robert FitzRoy.

Give him the best parts to read. You may need to explain some of it to him.

That'll be tough. So why not get him a few about different religions?

no can do.

your son will have to find God on his own since you are NOT teaching it to him. God will find him if he belongs to God.

you are straddling the fence.

If you are atheist...why don't you feel strongly enough about your belief to teach him to be atheist?

UNBIASED ... no such thing. You BELIEVE or you don't !
