Question:
Christians, why do you say that the Bible is the word of God when it clearly isn't?

The Bible is called the 'Gospel of John, Luke, Matthew, Mark e.c.t', not 'the Gospel of God.' Christian scholars admit that the Bible was written by 40 people in the first few centuries of Christianity, some of whom were kings, some were shepherds, some were poor. So how is the Bible the word of God if it was written by people? It is the words of Mark, Luke, Matthew e.c.t, not the word of God. Also, how could it be the word of God when it is full of scientific errors, mathematical errors, historical errors, contradictions and disgusting verses of pornography? Also, how could the bible be the word of God when it contains verses like these: Kill anyone who works on the Sabbath (Ex 31:15), kill disobedient children (Ex 21:15), kill adulterers (Lv 20:10), kill non-Hebrews (Dt 20:16-17), kill witches (Ex 22:18), kill gays (Rom 1:21-32), kill blasphemers (Lv 24:14), kill any bride who's not a virgin (Dt 22:21). After winning battles, kill all male prisoners and take the women, children, and cattle for yourselves. - Dt 20:13-14

according to the articles of faith, the bible is the word of God, YES, "but only so far as it is translated correctly."

Jesus said divide the word of God correctly. meaning that not all the scriptures contain only the words of God. in the KJV new testament it says that the "scriptures' were written by inspiration of God to men. inspiration can have different meanings. some people change this translation to eitehr God breathed or dictation. inspiration might not be the same as dictation altogether. or if actually being inspired when writing a person with teh spirit can write the words that the God would say himself, but with modern revelation the Lord says that he will cause a stupor of thought if one begins to write something that is not the will of God. for a living prophet to write something that is contrary to the will of God there might be a stupor of thought, there might be a stroke that immobilizes the prophets mind, and there might be Death, as God intended in like manner to KILL Moses for his disobedience.

this is how scriptures are made. i doubt its changed since Adam and Eve first started teaching their chidlren.

jesus said THY word is truth. Gods words are true always. God cannot lie. and since jesus speaks only the words of truth, He did not lie.

if mankind has the ability to make 50 different versions of the bible and the new testament bible, and then decide which manuscripts are not to be included in the bible one would think they also have the ability to add fake books to the bible .

but one thing is true, if the book of revelation is a true book of prophecy, john wrote that an angel would give the inhabitants of the earth the everlasting gospel. and as i know it, there are only two angels in the history of the world that have talked to prophets. it was either Mohammed, or Joseph smith jr. if Mohammed then the koran is the word of God, but if Joseph Smith, !!! than the book of mormon is the most true book on earth.

You must be a Muslim, for you are repeating the old caricature of the Bible that Muslims have been told.

The word 'gospel' means 'good news' and the New Testament (the Christian Greek scriptures) is all about the good news of Jesus Christ, sent by God into our world, to deliver us from our sins. There are 27 separate writings that, together, form the New Testament. They were all written by followers of Jesus who knew Him personally (or had a vision of Him), and all the first century Christians had those various letters and accounts, written to help them grow in faith, and to share the good news about Jesus to a disbelieving world.

Long before the New Testament was written, the ancient Hebrew scriptures (the Old Testament) foretold the coming of Jesus, the Messiah, so that was why those first century AD Jews became Christians. They needed the OT to identify Him. But most of the OT is a history of the Jewish nation over the centuries, and that is why it reports awful things. You totally misunderstand, however, if you think it records pornography. It exposes the evil sexual sins of people. It does not encourage such things! It shows God's judgements on people who refuse to repent of such sins.

As for the rest, I fear there is no hope for you. There are no "scientific errors". How could there be, when the word 'science' was not invented until 1830? Everybody knows the Bible is not a science book. It is a theology book. And what mathematical errors are there? Examples, please! Nor did the word "Bible" come about until long after the Christian church had collated the Hebrew and the Greek scriptures together. It comes from 'biblios' meaning 'little books' - so the collection of 66 books was called "The Bible" once all of them were put together under one cover. You really are confused.

I think it's simply a misunderstanding of the phrase. The term "word of God" was originally coined to describe the Bible as the collection of primary written references (the "word") concerning the long debate over, and development of, the monotheistic religion ("of God") which was, in the early first century, still peculiar to Jews and their proselytes--and then was expanded both in concept and in target audience by Christians.

Since it takes that much explanation to account for the description, I generally avoid it and simply refer to the Bible.

Most of God's words are not delivered by His mouth. They are given by the Holy Spirit, who inspires the hearts and minds of the righteous.

Prophets and apostles are men called by God to speak on His behalf.

If Person B delivers you a message on behalf of Person A, whose words are they? They are Person A's. The only time that would not be true is if Person B mucked it up somehow.

Easy. People aren't supposed to beleive, and it's sometimes easy to spot them because they deny the parts about God saying some people aren't supposed to know. They miss the parts where God says he will keep them from knowing, and if they do get something, it will be taken away from them.

So, you missed those parts didn't you? Uh huh.

We were Eyewitnesses

(Matthew 17:1-13; Mark 9:1-13; Luke 9:28-36)

16For we have not by following artificial fables, made known to you the power, and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ; but we were eyewitnesses of his greatness. 17For he received from God the Father, honour and glory: this voice coming down to him from the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 18And this voice we heard brought from heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.

19And we have the more firm prophetical word: whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation. 21For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost.

I am a Christian.

Whomever you are, you are under a multitude of mistaken assumption. You obviously have not read the Bible.

The Bible is called the word of God for God is the true author of the Bible. Read 2 Tim. 3:16: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." If all scriptures are given by the inspiration of God. then what scriptures were not inspired by God? Answer: none! This is why the Bible is the word of God.

It is true that those Jews who violated the law could be killed for not obeying Sabbath laws, disobedient children could be executed (at the wish of their parents), adulterers were to be killed, witches, blasphemers, and gays. Romans 1 never speaks of executing homosexuals. This reference is obviously wrong. The Book of Romans was written to Christians and Christians are never told to kill homosexuals.

Regarding killing non-Hebrews, a non-Hebrew could be killed for capital crimes. However, your reference is not correct. Regarding the tribes that God ordered wiped out, you need to read about the wandering of the Hebrews in the wilderness. During the Hebrews wilderness wanderings, God gave the Hebrews the ark of covenant which made them the most powerful in the known world. These tribes feared the Hebrews during their wanderings. These tribes attached the Hebrews from the rear. During those days, a army marched or moved with its soldiers in the front. Women, children, the sick, old people, and the injury were in the rear. These tribes attached the weak and God was angry. God gave these tribes a chance to repent. After a period of time, God allowed the Hebrews to attack these tribes. You will notice if you do a detail reading that before the Hebrews attacked, these tribes were given the option to either surrender or abandon their lands. If these tribes did not chose either option, then the Hebrews were instructed to utterly wipe them out.

Killing women who were not virgin. This was truly only when a virgin portrayed herself as a virgin when in reality she was not. Please notice Joseph and Mary, parents of Jesus. Matthew 1:19 states, "Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily." Joseph knew Mary was not a virgin and he sought not to have her killed but to be quietly divorced. Therefore, your statement is not true.

Your statement of killing all male prisoners, etcl, is true but in your haste to convict the Bible you overlooked the following verses Deut. 20: 10-12: "When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it. And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee. And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it." In other words, God through His nation, put peace on the table first.

In Christ's name

I know of no scientific, mathematical, historical, or contradictions in the Bible. Please describe these errors.

"All scripture is INSPIRED OF GOD and beneficial..." 2 Tim 3:16,17

God is the author. He used humans to pen his words by means of holy spirit.

“Prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will, but men spoke from God as they were borne along by holy spirit.”—2 PETER 1:21.

the gospels are called the gospels and the bible is the word of God

He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’;[d] and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’[e] 11 But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, 13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

(John 1:14)

14And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.
