Question:
Why do people who do not believe in God, hate Him and blame Him so much?
2009-02-16 09:40:39 UTC
Isn't that kind of like me blaming Santa Clause for my problems? How much sense does it make to blame a being, that in your eyes doesn't "exist", for everything that has gone wrong? And I'm sorry, you don't get a free ticket saying that God has made people do wrong..because the same can be said about many people who don't believe in God whatsoever. Bad people are just bad regardless.

So tell me....why do some of you hate God so much? If He doesn't exist then shouldn't it just be a done deal...and all of this bitterness be settled??? Why are you stressing yourself so much?

Sometimes it makes me think that deep down you believe in Him, but you're mad because your life wasn't perfect...so like they say...misery loves company. Am I the only one that sees this?

PS. I'm obviously Christian but I don't hate people for the beliefs...however I think it's very intolerant to bash other peoples beliefs.

its always easy to blame someone else for problems and God

is an easy choice for the blame..

Um, don't you see the contradiction in your "question?" If I don't believe in god, how can I hate something I don't think is real, or blame something I don't think is real for anything? The simple answer: I don't hate "god" or blame" god" for anything -- there's no such thing as a "god."

Yes, bad people are just bad -- no god to blame for it. And no satan.

And your idea that I'm mad because I'm miserable is the usual religious notion of assuming something without any evidence to back it up -- you know nothing of my life. My life is, in fact, very good. I make good money, am happily married with wonderful children, we're happy and healthy and comfortable. And I'm not stressed at all.

I suppose you're so "stressed" because of people like me pointing out the contradictions, absurdities, and lack of evidence in your religion...is that right? Are your ideas really so weak that they can't be defended? Can't they stand up to a little critical examination? Good, valid, worthwhile ideas are defensible on their own merits -- they don't need "respect" just because they're religious ideas, they prove themselves with evidence when confronted with skepticism. How do your religious ideas work under those circumstances...?

I don't hate anybody or anything. But I'll happily challenge *ideas* any time and every time -- whether those ideas are religious or scientific or anything else. That's not hating, that's *thinking*.

Peace.

Atheists don't hate god. The comments that you interpret as "hate" are only intended to point out the absurdity of the whole concept of the god in question in the first place. So, for example, if an atheist says "if god is love, then why is he so hateful in the OT" they aren't conceding that god exists and that they thinks he's mean, they're merely pointing out the utterly irreconcileable absurdities of the religious belief system- because this absurdity is there, even for people who believe in god. Reconciling god as Jesus usually spoke of him and god as the OT and St. Paul speak of him is impossible, to the embarassment of many christian theologians and apologists. What I find most interesting is that it seems among most christians, the OT and St. Paul generally win out, which is most interesting considering that Jesus is supposed to be god in the flesh. It would seem to me that after the gospels with Jesus in them, the rest would be redundant, if it weren't for the fact that the early church fathers found Paul et al useful for setting up their own authority.

Edit: The word "atheist" means "people who don't believe in god", ergo, it's a convenient way of expressing what's meant by "people who don't believe in god."

Your claim is blasphemous!! Stop trying to hide behind god when it is his followers terrible human emotions, intolerance and persecution of non believers that cause the problem!!

Ask yourself why it is only Christians that get attacked and not the other religions?!!!!

Do you not recognise that Christians are provoking retaliation and repudiation for their terrible attitudes?!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped their intolerant, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted postings things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped being the only religion opposing human rights and persecuting gays, pro choice and so much more things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped demanding freedom of religion whilst they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them things might change!! !!!

If Christians rediscovered the god of love and forgiveness and put aside all those terrible human emotions things would definitely change!!!!

Why are Christians so afraid of people who simply do not believe in any god?!!!! Surely it can only be because they are so afraid that atheist are right and they are wrong or it would not bother them!!!!!!

As soon as Christians rediscover the loving god and start acting like it the problem will cease!!!!

Using god to hide behind is blasphemy and according to the bible that is an unforgiveable sin - better get on your knees and pray forgivenss!!!

You'll have to give actual examples to back up your claim that people who don't believe in your god in fact hate your god. I haven't seen or done that myself.

It sounds like you're projecting, and that you don't understand alternate points of view very well.

edit: honey, people who do not believe in god are atheists. you don't have to say it, we know what you mean. if by some chance you are only referring to people who don't believe in your god but believe in their own, you will have to be more specific with your conjectures and accusations in the future if you don't wish to be misunderstood.

Uh, atheists don't hate or blame god at all... why on earth would we do that? We only hate and blame the people who believe in god who think they are morally superior or better than us.

You can't hate what you believe doesn't exist. You think we are pretending god isn't here just to piss him off?

I don't hate what I don't believe exists. I just hate it when what I don't believe exists causes people to act like cruel morons.
