there never was anything to be thankful to. Why then would evolution incorporate this 'thankful' tendency within us?

It's a sign of intelligence, to appreciate good things, and to rise above mere animalistic instinct (food, shelter, reproduction) to strive to bring beauty, poetry, kindness, and understanding into life. Where are the animals that see to their basic needs then develop systems to enhance the quality of their lives? To call humans 'animals that have evolved' begs the question.

Your question is valid, yet rubbished by atheistic humans who dismiss as mere chance all that makes human life glorious. They prefer to be thankful to other humans, praising them. Atheistic humans are just as prone to idolize other humans and to follow them as are theists prone to praise God and to follow God. It's just that they cannot see that. Seeing with understanding changes lots of things - including our understanding of why our planet should be crammed full of brilliant, wonderful, fabulous things and provisions humanity needs to thrive, long before any humans appeared on Earth. It isn't odd that atheists try to pat themselves or other humans on the back - it's tragic.

It is ingrained into us from our ancestors who would thank the animals they killed for sustaining them.

Of course there were people to be thankful to. humans, and great apes generally, are a social species. We interact with other people all the time. We do things for each other that are worth being thankful for. Does your religion blind you to that fact by telling you that God is the only one to whom we should be thankful?

I think the key to human behavior is worth. Albert Camus said that we must count our lives as worth living else we'll start considering suicide. Society praises thankfulness and many take praise as evidence of worth.

Since you can't prove that any God exists there's nothing odd about it. In fact, you're the odd one.

It is odd that "your" human nature requires you fill a need

to bow, grovel, and say your meaningless and diminutive prayers

to some lowly and irrelevant literary character who amounts to nothing more than

a batch of aborted promises …. and an altogether legendary and impenetrable inability to return.

Deliberately believing in a fabricated interpretation of the filth, greed,

incest, envy, poverty, lust, and life of 20 centuries ago, and using it as a barometer with which

to measure one's personal, mindful, and modern day moral worth … is for tiny and incompetent fools.

Evolution never incorporated your 'thankful' tendency .... your desperation in needing a "christ" did that.

Might as well ask why we feel we are important enough that we assume the universe is made for us.

We're selfish and arrogant and instinctively believe the world revolves around us!

Being thankful is an evolutionary trait in that , we are grateful for people before us who have striven to make our world today the wonderful place (comparitively) to what it was hundreds of years ago. I'm thankful for the smooth road I drive on. All these thanks are due to fellow human beings.

As an atheist I'm not grateful to any supernatural Being for bringing me into existence and giving me health and good-living.

Your ignorance of Atheism is obvious. Your ignorance of evolution is laughable.

Why such a silly post that ridicules Christianity? What "Thankful" tendency? There is no such thing outside of your fantasy world!

Which extremist sect or cult indoctrinated you to believe that God was not clever enough to use the big bang, evolution and science as his tools?

Pope Francis says the theories of evolution and the Big Bang are real and God is not “a magician with a magic wand” putting an end to the “pseudo theories” of creationism and intelligent design! So the Catholic Church, Church of England and mainstream churches all accept the big bang and evolution!

Lord Carey the former Archbishop of Canterbury put it rather well – “Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth”!

Christian Fundamentalist is a complete contradiction in terms!

CHRISTIAN – A follower or believer in Jesus.

FUNDAMENTALIST One who believes the Bible is literally true and must be followed exactly.

Therefore they are followers of the bible and not Jesus making them non Christians!

But worse is to follow it also makes them ideologists.

IDEOLOGY An idea that is false or held for the wrong reasons but is believed with such conviction as to be irrefutable.

So Christians have a loving and forgiving god and fundamentalist - well - Just are not Christians!

The need to be thankful doesn't come "human nature".

It comes from the childhood indoctrination you received that told you you need to be thankful.

Our human nature was developed hundreds of thousands and even millions of years ago when man started living together in groups and developed rules to remain in those groups. If such rules exist long enough they become instinctive.

As for the rest of your absurd comment: How many billion times do you think someone says "thank you" to someone else every day without requiring or invoking a god.

You are so overwhelmed by your desire to bribe eternal life out of your god you simply make statements that render you as looking like a fool.
