If your question is: "Can a man believe in God but not follow a religion", then the answer is yes.

However, Islam is a religion and people who follow that religion are Muslims. If you do not follow the religion, then you are not a Muslim.

All you have to do though, if I understand corectly, is to state that there is only one God and Homahmed is his profet. After that, you then have factions all with their interpretations of what being a Muslim is about. You could always start your own faction. However do, or do not. I am sure that it is all the same in the great inafable plan that the creator has in mind for us.

That being the case. Choose your own path.

My understanding of Islam is that a Muslim must not only believe in God, but also in the "five pillars of Islam", the Qu'ran in its entirety as inerrant divine revelation, and that Muhammad is the final prophet of God. However, there are elements within Islam that are non-essential; for example, the Sunnis and Shi'ites have differing views on some doctrines and practices, yet (most) Muslims would recognize members of the other branch of Islam as fellow Muslims. A person can reject some of these non-essential elements and still be regarded by the Muslim community as a Muslim (albeit perhaps an unorthodox one).

Someone who believes in One God, but does not believe that the Qu'ran is divinely revealed or that Muhammad spoke for God is a monotheist (believer in one God) - but not a Muslim.

No, this question is a tautology.

Being a Muslim means the believer submits to Allah and declares he will abide by the Quran and Hadith literally because it is purported to be God's final and unalterable truth.

If a Muslim disagrees with any of the contents of Quran, then it makes him an infidel. Infidels are equal to apostates. And apostates are punishable by death.

In other words, once a Muslim, forever a Muslim.

You want out? They will call for your death. Because that is that God teaches.

The definition of a Muslim is "one who submits to One God". So he believes in One God, then he is a Muslim (loosely defined).

There is a story about a man who was unsure about religions so he stick to believing in One God and doing good, and still he is rewarded.

if you're making up new rules just to suit yourself then you're a heretic, let's make clear from the start, but it's important for a religion to keep evolving and it's people who cause it to evolve either thru new revelations, or by sitting down and thinking about it all in its own context and rejecting whatever doesn't fit, or ideally both, having a new understanding of the religion after a new revelation .. if you don't want to call yourself a muslim then i guess you're not a muslim, but if you still believe the basic lailahailallahu muhammadurrasulullah then you're a muslim, whatever else is on top of that

That would make one a theist not a Muslim.

What makes someone a Muslim if he believes in one God(allah) who sent down prophets(jesus, moses, abraham etc) and Muhammad is the last prophet who spread the word.

No. The foundation of the belief is that anyone believes in One God and his message ( as we all must); can not negotiate the faith or believing God and His true Message. Islam is the whole mean is derived from the Arabic root "Salema": peace, purity, submission and obedience. In the religious sense, Islam means submission to the will of God and obedience to His law.

Everything and every phenomenon in the world other than man is administered totally by God-made laws, ie. they are obedient to God and submissive to his laws, they are in the State of Islam. Man possesses the qualities of intelligence and choice, thus he is invited to submit to the good will of God and obey His law, ie, become a Muslim.

Submission to the good will of God, together with obedience to His beneficial Law, ie, becoming a Muslim, is the best safeguard for man's peace and harmony.

Islam dates back to the age of Adam and its message has been conveyed to man by God's prophets and messengers, including Abrahim, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad.

Islam's message has been restored and enforced in the last stage of the religious evolution by God's last prophet and messenger, Muhammad.

The word Allah in the Arabic language means God, or more accurately, The One and Only Eternal God, Creator of the Universe, Lord of all lords, King of all kings, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful. The word Allah to mean God is also used by Arabic speaking Jews and Christians.

Its batter to be a Muslim than Just believe in God and not believe in guidance or just blindly following a faith, as it has much influence of Human beings.

Every Muslim is encouraged to learn their religion well and use their own intelligence and reasoning to determine their interpretations.

But all Muslims agree on the basic 5 pillars of faith.

if u believe in GOD then u should worship him the way he tells u to do it..

we (humans) aren't smart enough to know everything (the good and the bad)..everything forbidden in islam has a reasonable and a logical cause.. so u should worship GOD (allah) and do what he commands you to do.

i hope i made it clear
