Jesus was born in a stable because there were no other available rooms (Bethlehem was full of people coming back from abroad as they were required to return home to register) and his place of birth allowed for what some see as a fulfillment of a prophecy in the Old Testament.

Jesus could have been rich because he was from the line of David...yes, biblical KING David...

without bringing spirituality in it, the Bible is actually a good read as an insight for the old cultures. if you want to make it a faith book, that's up to you. it won't change the good stories in it.

Well you got to think of it this way yes he was born in The stables but u got remember when even though he was born in a stable you got to remember the three wise men who bring Jesus Gifts and Though Joseph Was a Carpenter There was Silver involved and Knowing These Gifts May Have Never Been Used,,,it Does not State anywhere in the bible that the gifts were traded or sold...so we may never know what happened to those..and being the son of god more people brought him donations of silver gold and items so yeah i guess u could say he is rich in a way

The answer is poor. The Bible tells us in Luke 2:24 that when Jesus was born the sacrifice that was made was a pair of turtledoves or two pigeons. This was allowed by the law in Leviticus 12:8. The sacrifice for a wealthy person was a lamb. But for poor people the doves or pigeons were allowed. Thus since Mary made an offering only allowed to the poor it makes Biblical sense that they were poor.

answer: Not one. Despite Christian wishful thinking, mistranslations and taking verses out of context, the actual prophecies are only 23 and he didn't fulfill any of them. * The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26) * Once he is King, leaders of other nations will look to him for guidance. (Isaiah 2:4) * The whole world will worship the One God of Israel (Isaiah 2:17) * He will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:1) via King Solomon (1 Chron. 22:8-10) * The Moshiach will be a man of this world, an observant Jew with "fear of God" (Isaiah 11:2) *****In other words - this must all be accomplished in a human lifetime***** * Evil and tyranny will not be able to stand before his leadership (Isaiah 11:4) * Knowledge of God will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9) * He will include and attract people from all cultures and nations (Isaiah 11:10) * All Israelites will be returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12) * Death will be swallowed up forever (Isaiah 25:8) * There will be no more hunger or illness, and death will cease (Isaiah 25:8) * All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19) * The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11) * He will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah 52:7) * Nations will end up recognizing the wrongs they did to Israel (Isaiah 52:13-53:5) * The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23) * The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:55) * Weapons of war will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9) * The Temple will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40) resuming many of the suspended mitzvot * He will then perfect the entire world to serve God together (Zephaniah 3:9) * Jews will know the Torah without Study (Jeremiah 31:33) * He will give you all the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4) * He will take the barren land and make it abundant and fruitful (Isaiah 51:3, Amos 9:13-15, Ezekiel 36:29-30, Isaiah 11:6-9).

Historically speaking they were not rich, Joseph being an Artisan was on a pretty low rung of the ladder where trades were concerned. In those days there were no union carpenters making good pay, they were laborers who worked hard just to scratch out an existence. There was no higher education for people in that social economic class and all they had were their families, religion and their trade. There was no possibility of advancement like in today's world and certainly no government aid to help those with very little means of supporting their families.

Depends on what you mean by rich.. If compared to an unemployed person Jesus was born rich cos his father had a job and 3 meals a day. If compared to Caesar then He was poor cos He didnt have any gold or silver....

Also, if you were to look at it spiritually, the Lord was with Joseph and Mary, so you can say that they were rich as well...

Its quite a vague question tho.. lol..

As the son of a carpenter he would not have been poor but also not rich - his 'father' was a tradesman so lower middle class would probably fit the bill nowadays

He was born in a stable not because he was poor but because everywhere was full up and only the owner of the barn had any space. More about rejection than poverty

poor. Mary and Joseph went to an Inn to have Jesus but they did not have any room, so they went to a stable and Jesus was born in a stable where horses are, and was put in a manger( like a cradle) and Jesus was poor when ge grew up but is very rich now. Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Almighty loving Father. Amen to that.

Jesus was born to a poor family. After all, they had to give birth and take shelter that night in a barn. Jesus' earthly father, Joseph, made a modest living for his family in the carpentry trade.

Joseph was a carpenter living in nazereth under a very oppressive Roman Regime

Definatly not rich.....but not desperately poor either

being born in a barn was not caused by lack of money....they tried to stay at the Inn there was no room

I think traditionally, he was received into a humble home. No room in the in......at that time if you had $$ I bet there was always room in the in.

One interesting side note is the gifts that were provided to him by wise men when they finally arrived. The gifts provided were of great value and monetary worth at the time. Enough so, I would assume that they subsidized their move to Egypt for a time.

It is likely from a money standpoint that they were normal average everyday people. Most carpenters don't make a lot of money and Joseph was a carpenter...

However, all of them were rich in their spiritual belief in God...and that is the greatest riches of all.

The were not a rich family. The child was born in a barn, not his own home. and his step father was a carpenter. They didn't have a lot of money, but he didn't need it. He'd made do with the blessings God gave to him.

No, Jesus was not born rich. Jesus was born in a stable with a foster father of a carpenter. He is humble.

I certainly wouldn't qualify as a bible expert and I am as far from a Christian as I could get, but it is clear to me that they were "middle class". Husband a carpenter, Mary from a good family, etc.

I am sure that they would not have been considered "rich".
2008-08-22 08:30:28 UTC
He was born in a stable, but, that was because there was nowhere else for them to stay. I know that Joseph was a carpenter, so, I don't think he was rich. They seemed like a typical Jewish familiy. Probably middle class.

Poor, look at the SACRIFICE at his birth...

Luke 2:22 Then it was time for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. 23 The law of the Lord says, “If a woman’s first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the LORD.” 24 So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord—“either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

This was the ALTERNATIVE sacrifice allowed for a POOR family, NOT the "normal" sacrifice of a lamb:

Leviticus 12:6 “When the time of purification is completed for either a son or a daughter, the woman must bring a one-year-old LAMB for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or turtledove for a purification offering. She must bring her offerings to the priest at the entrance of the Tabernacle...

8 “If a woman CANNOT AFFORD to bring a LAMB, she must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons. One will be for the burnt offering and the other for the purification offering. The priest will sacrifice them to purify her, and she will be ceremonially clean.”

I do not recall any part of the bible where it states if they were rich or poor, but because God was taking care of them they never missed or needed anything.

Joseph was a carpenter.

Do you think a carpenter was rich in that time.

Jesus was born in a stable.
