Many people get irritated (to say the least), when pushed in a corner.

Uneducated, brainwashed people the most, because they occupy a corner all their life.

They have no answers and answers engraved in their brains by their pastors won't suffice so then they'd answer angrily, get upset and so on. Because deep down, they know, they are in a fact lost.

Speaking as a Christian "religionist", i won't justify rudeness, unkindness, or uncaring actions of any kind either from myself of any other Christian/etc. But i would also like to challenge that 1) there are many questions that are rude and insulting in the way they are asked, as your word "religionists" is offfending and insulting to me, and 2) the question is not clear that answers from religous people are not desired, and 3) similarly, there have been rude answers from non-religious people and atheists to questions that Christians/religious people have asked, even when they have requested responses only from Christians, and 4) some questions are simply backhanded insults trolling for a religous person to answer. It is all in the wording ... using neutral words. Again, i won't justify the actions of myself and/or other Christians, but the opposite can also be said. Perhaps we should all re-read the directions in the Yahoo!Answers guidelines and just treat each other with respect even if we do disagree, not only in the way we respond to a question but in the way we ask them. (PS: i like some of the responses from the other people; good answers.)

Some people are just really easily offended. They see that someone might be taking a jan at one of the most treasured parts of their personality and are eager to defend themselves. The rude ones answer that way because they aren't open to the idea of a religion other than their own.

But for the record, some atheists are known to have the exact same behaviour.

Maybe they have something to say on the matter? Who are you to dictate what people can and can't understand? Just because people have faith in certain things doesn't mean they are unable to grasp concepts contrary to their own. I my self an agnostic, and I have Christian friends who understand my point of view, and even agree that in many ways it makes sense, even though they don't share the same ideas.

Not all religious people answer questions rudely, there are many who are polite and answer sensibly. It is often the ones that can't bring themselves to understand opposing arguments that answer rudely, because they have no other way of arguing.

As for people answering questions that are not aimed at them - this is the nature of the internet. You put what you want out there and anyone can respond as they wish. If you wish for closed-circle discussion, Yahoo! Answers is probably not the best place to look.

im an atheist and i have read a couple of questions and responses you have written and some do seem a little demeaning. you are smart that is honestly good for you but (i dont know if this was intentional but it seems that way.) it seems like you are saying that all religious people are dumb. this isnt true.religion does not = dumb people, dumb people = gullible = religion. so you can be religious and smart. you can also be smart and afraid or smart and a narcissus. (two other reasons to be religious) you are smart but even a dumb person can be humble.

I feel they somehow wish to further their religious cause by belittling and using the opportunity to evangelise their religious poison on others. Lots of christians are among the most bigoted people here on Y.A. most also evangelise and try to impress their beliefs on others, Though little do they realise it is in fact counter productive to their aims. They see it as their god given right. As i adhere to no god i see the reality. and i also see my right to "not register and contest their complete bull"

They blindly do not see their own doctrine of peace and tolerance toward others.Or the fact that they are a sledghammer trying to hammer the tack into the wood. Their constant evangelism at people who do not believe or even want to believe. Is in fact their downfall.

No need for anyone to be rude, but when asking a question on a public forum it is not reasonable to insist on only some people answering. No harm asking, but it's just an ask.

Perhaps the term religionist should be more clearly defined.

It's the other way around. The Atheists answer when they have no understanding at all, and answer in a very disrespectful way.

Whenever you ask a question that directly assaults a group of people, do you honestly expect these people not to defend themselves?

I just answered your last question, where I as well presented facts.

You can't tell me with a straight face that your questions aren't insulting.

Funny, if you ask them,(or even if you don't), they will throw an avalanche of incendiary remarks stating how you Atheist scum are always so negative and why don't you go somewhere else, like hell before your time.

WHY ASK QUESTIONS you REALLY don't WANT the ANSWER to?
