Question:
Tithing and giving? I give to those that I know that need it most. Would God agree?

I have a friend that has 2 girls. Struggling. Work, school, and emerging from the crystal-meth world. Doing a good job but is struggling. I went over tonight to deliver my extra tampons and rolls of toilet paper because that's how broke she is. She did not ask. I planted a 20$ so she could buy more if she needs. My guess, she will. First day and all. I am also going to pay for her girl's phone to be turned on because she can't be there with the little one and not be able to call 911 if she needed to. So, my question is - how do you think God sees this kind of giving? Technically, it is not to the church's elders. But it is to the church. [People] Since that's who make up the church - people. She isn't using and is breaking from all the freaks thus the need for a phone. What say you?

OK, "Tithing" is giving the FIRST 10% of your income- all income to those doing God's work. "Gifts" are above & beyond your tithe.

You may give your tithe to anyone -food banks, churches, self help centers... as long as they glorifyi God. Gifts to individuals, like you describe are smiled on highly. "... that which you do for the lesast of these, you do for Me...."

It's called blessing. God favours blessings and does likewise. You can't out give God, but it's sure fun to try.

What you did was from your heart, and that is what counts. As long as you don't run around telling everyone what a great person you are because you bought some essentials and parted with a hard earned 20 spot. It's way more fun to give annomosly. As long as you aren't looking for pats on the back here on Earth; God is smiling on you. It just doesn't get any better than that. Love you. God bless.

I have done similar, my view is it's Gods money.

You might want to pray with some friends about wisdom and discernment. Ask God to guide you when doing these things.

Also this should be brought up in church as a prayer request maybe leave out your giving, but others might want to help as well. Maybe someone would babysit or whatever?

Philippians 4:6

Be anxious for nothing. But in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known unto God.

Bless you for helping your friend and I will pray for her too.

I was saved in prison and when I got out a pastor helped me get on my feet. I didn't ask he insisted, this ruined a friendship of His because the other Christian was offended that the pastor would help me after the sins I committed.

He didn't listen to that none sense and please don't you either. 4 yrs later I am going strong in the Lord and even got to lead my niece in prayer to the Savior. Maybe one day your friend will do similar. KEEP HELPING HER in anyway God shows you, just make sure you pray with other people about it, don't do it it solo.

I think you are absolutely doing the entire summary of the Law right there, and using your head too. You're concerned about God and your neighbor and you acted accordingly.

You should tithe to your church, if your church needs you to do that. Most of our churches are doing just fine. Even my church's youth pastor makes more than I do. But all the single moms are still on welfare. Sometimes you have to re-appropriate your "tithe" (which I think is just a part of good will) and put it to better use.

What you are doing is very kind and thoughtful. But the book of Malachi says, "Bring ye the tithe into the STOREHOUSE, that there may be meat in my house." That means we are to bring our tithes to the house of the Lord, where ministry to the saints takes place. Our first priority is to take care of the work of the Lord. The church does a lot to help people that you may not know about. Tithes first help to pay the light bill, and the heat and water, as well as the pastor and any paid staff such as secretary, maintainence, youth pastor etc. The rest of the money is used for buying materials for the members of the church such as teaching literature, music, equipment, paying for snow removal etc. Additional money is usually put into benevolence that helps members who are struggling, such as a food pantry, money to help pay rent for low income families, providing needy members as well as poor folks in the community with various financial difficulties.

God says that we are to present to Him tithes AND offerings. What you are doing is giving offerings. Offerings are above and beyond the tithe that God requires. His first concern is for those who spend time as a congregation worshiping Him. But offerings are also required to help those outside of the church. You may be giving offerings to those in the community, but you are robbing God of the tithe when you don't bring it to the storehouse where others can be given the most important food they need- the Word of God. Without the tithe, there would be no meeting place and no one to preach the Word, and folks would have no one to teach them.

you're think to tithe 10%. Thats all God asks for. it relatively is OT, and below the regulation, yet God reported I got here to not get rid of the regulation, yet to make it greater valuable. so which you will not use the OT to get out of paying tithes. God would desire to of requested for ninety%. So i don't whinge relating to the ten%. I tithe on each and every pay examine. Thats the 1st factor to comes out and no, im not wealthy. I paintings 2 jobs. yet God has blessed-so i will pay my 10th. from time to time it gets tough yet God has by no skill failed me yet. It says you're cursed with a curse in case you do not. some human beings do not desire to pay tithes. they don't have a non secular leg to stand on. God requested for slightly-not alot. So?? What say you?

You're a good person for giving to somebody in need. An amazing Child of God. God sees all that you are doing and deeply appriciates you helping out people in need, especially when you don't have anything to gain for it besides God's approval and satisfaction with you and your actions.

There should be more people like you in the world.

God Bless.

That's the kind of giving that God wants.

It's unfortunate that most churches don't take care of people like that any more. It used to be that churches would take care of their members who were down on their luck--the early church had an official system set up specifically for the orphans and widows.

What your doing is very generious and charitable, but it is not tithing. Tithing is giving back to God what is his. If we decide that that tithe should go one place or another, we are basically telling God what to do with his money. Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with what you are doing.

You are fulfilling the second greatest commandment, loving your neighbor as yourself, and I am certain that is pleasing to God

You don't have to give to a church; giving to anyone in need is perfectly fine. Thank you for helping your needy friend. May God bless you both.

Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

The next category of people who go into everlasting fire could well be those who tithe to a church that never helps anyone besides the ministry who are wolves in sheep's clothing.

Tithing is an old covenant point of law, and it was brought out in Acts 15 that to teach the law was to subvert the Christian's soul. To teach tithing in Christianity is a deception.

I do a lot of that things and I am sure one day you will have something good back from Good. And also go to ask for help from some government programs.

Tithing is nothing more than a way to fleece the "saved" from their savings.

Youre gesture was very generous and kind.

God Does Not Command Us to Give 10% or Any Fixed % of Our Salary or Property

Tithes were required by God from the Israelite farmers and ranchers (see Deuteronomy 14:22 and Leviticus 27:30). Tithes were agricultural produce and not money (and they had money back in those days). The tithes were used in the temple, for festivals and for helping the poor.

There were 3 tithes from some of the Israelites and a 4th from the Levites to the Levite priests.

1) The Levitical tithe required those who raised crops (not everyone and not all professions – just those who raised crops) to give 10% of that to the Levites. This tithe occurred 6 years out of the 7 year cycle. It also required those that raised 10 or more animals to give each tenth animal that passed under the rod to the Levites. If a person raised less than 10 animals, they were not required to tithe.

2) From what was given to them, the Levites in turn had to give a tenth of the very best to the priests.

3) The festival tithe required that those who raised crops or animals to set aside 10% for the annual festivals.

4) The Poor tithe occurred only in the 3rd year of the seven year cycle. This was set aside for the poor.

Now about Christians and tithing, God never established a set standard for Christians to give. The principle of 10% of earnings being required of believers is not taught in the Bible. Giving should be done out of freewill and love and sometimes God puts it in our hearts to give much more than 10% and it doesn’t have to be just money. We are to be led by the Holy Spirit. Giving should be done cheerfully from the heart (2 Corinthians 9:7) for the honour and glory of God, to help the needy (Hebrews 13:16, Acts 20:35, Matthew 25:35-45, Acts 6:1-4, 1 Timothy 5:1-16) and to support GENUINE Christian pastors and ministries who would use what is given to them for GODLY PURPOSES AND NOT FOR WORLDLY PURSUITS (1 Corinthians 9:7-14, 1 Timothy 5:17-18, Acts 2:44-45, 4:32-37, 1 Corinthians 16:1-3, 2 Corinthians 8:1-13, 1 Timothy 6:17-19).

Just as the animal sacrifices were replaced under the New Covenant by the great sacrifice of our wonderful Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 7:27) and circumcision was replaced by circumcision of the heart (Romans 2:29), Old Covenant tithing was replaced by giving cheerfully of what one (who is being led by the Holy Spirit, of course) has decided in their heart to give (2 Corinthians 9:7). Examples of what we can offer are: food, money, clothing, furniture and our service as Christians. We must use wisdom and make sure that the things we offer are needed. Some ministers use others' hard earned cash to embellish their churches and feed their worldly desires.

It’s clear that God never told us that we should be giving 10% (or any fixed %) of our salaries. Those who preach that Christians are to give 10% (or any fixed %) are wresting the Scriptures to conform to their belief at the expense of the truth. An individual may teach this false doctrine due to one or more of the following:

• Ignorance

• Fear of ridicule or disapproval of others who support this teaching

• Not wanting to admit what they always taught was wrong

• Love of money (1 Timothy 6:10)

Applying Old Testament practices in the New Testament is in essence, placing those who hear them under the bondage and curse of the Mosaic Law (Galatians Ch. 3).

Any one who teaches that we are to follow Old Covenant regulations are subverting the souls of those who hear them:

Acts 15:24

Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

If you’re teaching others that God commands this, no matter how good the intentions are, it’s a sin. It’s time to break free from the false doctrine of believers being required to give 10% (or any fixed %) of their earnings, and take a stand against it.

2 Corinthians 9:7

7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

REDEMPTION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

Because mankind is incapable of meeting God’s standard of perfection necessary to abide in God’s presence (Romans 3:19-20,23), God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the total debt for the believer’s sins and mercifully credits to his account Christ’s righteousness (Romans 3:21-28,5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21). Jesus’ gracious act of atonement was complete and covers all sin (Colossians 2:13-14; 1 John 1:9). Salvation is not based on good deeds but according to the mercy of God (Titus 3:4-5). Believers are justified by faith; it is a gift by God’s grace (Romans 4:3-8; Ephesians 2:8-9). A true, living faith will result in a desire to live a holy, loving life of good works (Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 5:6; James 2:14-26), but failure to be absolutely successful at righteous living does not negate the believer’s justified status.

If you sincerely say this prayer, your sins will be washed away, you will be redeemed to God, be saved from eternal torment and inherit the Kingdom of God:

"Dear Jesus,

I am a sinner.

I repent of my sins.

Please forgive me and save me by your shed blood;

come into my heart.

I want to receive you as my own personal Lord and Savior.

Amen"
