Question:
I'm starting to think there is a blurry line between atheism and deism, do you agree?

I've considered myself an atheist for quite a while now just to not pussyfoot around the issue, but I think I am justified by also considering myself a deist. It should be up to me to define my concept of a creator whether It be nature in general or even the sun that keeps life going. Just because I don't personify my deity, doesn't make It any less real to me.

Atheism is just a label that is only necessary because of the religious people anyway, so I think I'll start try to avoid the word completely. When revealed religions realize they are only taking tradition as evidence for their beliefs, maybe they will open their eyes and find a 'religion' of their own.

I don't consider deism an organized religion, so I'm fairly certain that I'm not being hypocritical with this new label for myself.

"I'm starting to think there is a blurry line between atheism and deism"

Not for me there isn't.

I know there are NO gnomes, fairies, elves and unicorns.

I apply the same reasoning to all breeds of invisible sky critters.

There aren't any of those either.

Easy, eh?

Almost any supernatural creator-entity isn't consistent with atheism, whether you label it god or not.

However, if you define your deism in such a way that it becomes almost meaningless as a concept (which is possible), then it may be bordering on atheism.

What's wrong with just calling yourself a deist? That's what you sound like.

An atheist is without belief in god (a= without; theist comes from the Greek word for god, theos, from which we also get theocracy. A Deist (from the Latin word for god, Deus) is a person who believes in a particular kind of god, one who set the universe in motion and then withdrew, leaving the universe to function according to nature's laws without any interference from him. This was an idea that was very popular in the 18th Century. Just as you cannot simultaneously believe and not believe, you cannot be both an atheist and a deist.

Atheist = lack of belief in any god(s)

Deist = believes in a Creator, or god.

I think you have become an agnostic with a lean towards deism. I like reading deist sites, they sound so calming (unless they start arguing about religious beliefs).

I think the line you are talking about is more between Deism and Agnosticism.

A true Atheist doesn't believe in any kind of god.

There is a blurry line indeed. In my opinion atheism/agnosticism/Buddhism/Taoism all kind of blend together.

Call it what you want, but there is a supreme spirit, God, Who created you to know, love and serve Him in this life and to be happy with Him in the next, Don't be fooled into believing that everything happened on its own,

If you believe in any kind of god, you are not an atheist.

Yes, I do agree that you are starting to think that.

No. It is clearly defined.

Deism believes the existence of god

Atheism doesn't
