A serious question for atheists.?

Question

You claim that you can be just as moral and civil and caring and compassionate as any Christian, even without God.
Im just curious...what is it that makes you so apt to repeatedly mock our God...and why does it always have to be the Christian God? What demented thoughts or things is it that possesses you to do such a thing with so little reserve or respect for others? I thought you said YOU were the ones who were open minded?
Below is a list of questions recently posted in R&S directly copied and pasted here to present to any of you that would try to say that on the average there are more Christians asking "hate questions" (for lack of a better word)

No atheist KNOWS how the universe was created. The theory of the big bang currently fits what we do know however about the expanding universe. Now the theory of the big bang was originally brought up by a catholic priest so it is really not in conflict with religion per SE. The problem with your statement that everything requires something to create it is that you do not really KNOW that either you just believe it with the evidence you think you have in front of you. The idea that god existed without a creator should give you some idea how we can believe that matter exists prior to life as we know and may have literally forever. The big bang could have happened billions of times contracted and happened again according to some theories. The invisible hand of god is used as a default here, by saying since we do no fully understand the creation of the universe than it must be attributed to an invisible being. Well the early cultures did not understand the sun and they attributed it to a fiery chariot driven by a god. same premise in my mind simply because I cannot conceive of something at this stage does not make it impossible, but I do not have to resort to the default position of attributing it to a god.

You don't understand that to an atheist, since God is not believable, no mocking is occurring. You cannot mock something that doesn't exist.



Ridicule is useful when others take nonsense as being important.



As for morals there is no evidence that atheist are any more or less moral than anyone else. Morals come from our innate sense of fairness and not from religions. All religions (not just Christianity) do is lay guilt trips on top of that sense of fairness.

Some of the mocking is just about any god in general and unless they specify Jesus, then by mocking your god they are also mocking the god of Muslims and Jews.

Several of the 'joke' questions (e.g. Jesus "drove" a donkey last time he was here. When he comes back, will he drive a used metro? When we wear clothes, are we defying God's will?) could have been asked by a person of any faith.

That's quite a list there. I have a quick question though, besides asking why most aren't from mocking atheists: so what? Do you honestly think that this is indisputable evidence that atheists are sub-morality in comparison to theists? What about the questions from "Real Truth" or "Liberal Asskicker" or any other Christian poster who asks where atheists get their morals from if not from God, or why atheists want to kill babies, or why atheists are not patriots because they don't want to say the whole pledge? What about the Christians who constantly try to pass oppressive religious legislation just because they don't want their religion to be everywhere in society? What about abortion clinic bombers? Are they more moral than atheists?

We search for the truth, and when we are posed with religion we cannot comprehend how some one can so vehemently defend something that is silly. There are too many religions out there, none have proof that their claims are true. By atheist logic in order to believe in one you would have to believe them all, which religious people don't. When I comes Christians, you guys are the majority here.

I only claim to be more moral or civil to those that demonstrate they show no regard for others.



I only claim that for myself, not atheists in general. Why? Because I don't speak for other people.



That said, if you have an issue with anyone's morality or civility on an internet forum, I suggest you take it up with those individuals. If you have an issue with atheists in general, I recommend going to a forum that doesn't let atheists stay for long. If you have an issue with me personally, feel free to contact me privately, as I feel that grandstanding dramatics aren't civil at all.

Being atheist/theist has little to do with morals, they're just titles.

Just because someone is an atheist doesn't mean they are moral nor does a theist.

The list of questions you've posted includes a near equal amount of "troll" questions from theists as they do from atheists. Regardless, that's a very small sampling of questions over an eight minute period - and from a very small sample of the overall community.



What makes you think it is apt to generalize? As I've often said, generalizations are frequently made, and nearly as frequently invalid. I tend to answer questions in kind. When someone asks a question I read as an honest inquiry, I try to answer honestly; if someone spews bias and attempts to tout fallacy as logical argument, I will shut them down in kind.
