Question:
Why can't atheists accept the fact that atheism was around before Christianity, but Christ's arrival destroyed any chance for atheism to ..?

.. succeed, as evidenced by after 2000 years, there are 2-3 billion Christians, and less than 100 million atheists?

Isn't it time for atheists to throw the towel in?  Why do they keep beating the dead horse of atheism, when it's not going to win?

"God" was invented 2000 years ago, before that there was nothing else to believe in.

Because we don't believe Jesus of Nazareth was the son of god. I don't believe in the Bible because it is littered with historical inaccuracies and fallacies. On top of that, it's not a thing to win. It's either you believe or you don't.

I, personally don't try to use religion as a crutch for my morals, but I try to better myself as a person. This is why I'm atheist.

I also don't try to insult others for having different beliefs than mine. I would suggest you do the same "Anonymous".

Why cant Christiians accept the fact that they have no chance in winning evidenced by after 2000 years there are 5.5 Billion people that ARE not Christians and only 2 Billion christians? Clearly its time to throw in the towel.

It's not a popularity contest. Your question's fallacy is the bandwagon fallacy.

I don't judge whether i win by how many people agree with me. In fact I don't really regard it as a competition at all. That seems like a silly attitude to me. I just find the arguments for gods unconvincing.

Of course, if you see it in those terms, then you have won by your own terms, but what seems rather telling is that you are not satisfied with winning, but seem so insecure that you feel the need for atheists to admit it too. It seems a bit sad, really.

If one's personal model of the universe was based upon competition with other models, your observations might have a bit of rationality to them.

 Another dumbf//k

There are may religions that do not require belief in a deity - THAT makes them atheistic religions, and many have been around since LONG before christianity arrived

(so your claim that there are "less than 100 million atheists"? is just SOOOO stupid)

But in any case- whats to throw the towel in for?

You think I give a f//k that there are 2-3 billion christians? (ps. PROVE there are)

People have always been slow to accept modern scientific evidence when it conflicted with their cherished beliefs, so nothing's changed there. But throughout history we have slowly become more and more enlightened as we learned more about the world. It's not gonna happen overnight, we realise that. But eventually facts and logic usually win out in the end.

This is simple, for the vast majority of the time Christianity was around, it was basically impossible to be anything else in the spaces it existed. In some places it was flat out illegal and you'd be killed (look what happened to Galileo when he disproved the Bible), or there was no concept of other beliefs. Consider how in a Mormon community, having multiple wives is the norm, so you'd never consider it strange. In a tribe where you're raised to hunt, a grocery store would seem like a strange place. So in a world where only a single belief exists, do people play along because there is no alternative.

In many countries it is still shameful to admit a disbelief in God, and in many you'll still come to harm for publicly admitting it. The number of atheists blending into Christian communities for their own safety and security is a number we can't possibly determine. Even those 2-3 billion all have different levels of faith, different definitions of God, and the majority would disagree with each other on interpretations and meaning of the Bible, so how many "true" biblical Christians there are among those numbers, would quickly dwindle.
