I was asked in a previous question, "why I think they are not concerned for the planet. "
I meant the Church not individuals. I wanted to know "What about love, morality, civility, mercy, gratitude and optimism does not apply to caring for the earth?" I wanted to know why these values are not upheld when the earth is involved. I expect more from people who proclaim those values and the fact that other people are worse is no excuse.
I got many answers reminding me that many individuals care and work hard to make those above mentioned values...stand for something. What I want to know is, how does the church show this to us, those who share this earth.

Just because the church does not 'advertise' the work they do does not mean they do not do plenty. There is the store cupboards and gardens that are actively supported by the prophet, these activities center around the whole recycle, reduce, reuse ideology. Ask any LDS person and they could probably tell you at least five different ways to store water. Activities that include clean-ups of beaches, roads, planting trees etc. What is it you want from the LDS? At the end of the day if we all lived the way the LDS proclaim to live then none of us would take more then our share and there would be much less production all around that would save the earth.

The earth is God's creation and we are stewards over it. It is our DUTY to care for it. Are you asking why the leadership of the Church does not make some new commandment for us not to pollute the Earth? Why should they? We have already been commanded to take care of it. Or are you asking why they don't spend money toward environmental projects rather than all that humanitarian aid?

"Build cities, adorn your habitations, make gardens, orchards, and vineyards, and render the earth so pleasant that when you look upon your labors you may do so with pleasure and that angels may delight to come and visit your beautiful locations... Your work is to beautify the face of the earth, until it shall become like the Garden of Eden."

What does the Catholic church do or Islam or the Baptist Convention or the United Methodists?

It's not the church's problem - it's the individual's responsibility.
