Question:
Do you feel that your religious liberties are at stake?

Yes, I do. At first, I thought perhaps, it could be ignored as a federal law that will address the interests of only certain parties, but in actuality, to do so, they must use the taxes of those that don't believe.

"If you attended Mass yesterday at any church in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, you no doubt heard the letter from Archbishop Gregory regarding the recent decision by the federal Department of Health and Human Services mandating health insurance coverage to include sterilizations, abortion-inducing drugs and contraceptives."

If any group's religious liberties are endangered, ALL our religious liberties are endangered.

Though I may agree with abortion in certain situations, and contraception at any time, I am reviled at the thought of sterilization. Please contact the sites below in order to prevent this law from taking effect. Thank you.

Please go to the web site of the National Committee for a Human Life Amendment, the public policy arm of the U.S. Bishops Pro-Life Secretariat. The link is www.nchla.org. Click on the yellow "Action Alerts" link on the left side of the page. There you can download an alert with more information and details on how to contact your U.S. Congressman and Senators.

Go to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops web site, www.usccb.org. Their Home Page has a link with background information on this topic, to help you prepare to discuss this with others.

Respectfully Yours,

A Devout Cafeteria Catholic (who doesn't want to be the next one to lose his religious liberties)

I am willing to share these thoughts at the risk of appearing to chide or scold: Concern for religious liberty, and for the many issues pertaining to life as a follower of Christ, should not be regarded as a matter of “feeling.” Feelings are temporal, that is, they come and they go. While they may become very intense, and appear to supply great power, feelings are not reliable and “trustworthy.” A better Rock whereupon we may build strong belief and understanding would be divine doctrine, holy teachings, and an unchanging sacred spirit.

In an age of activism, militancy, and often violent public demonstrations, effective action for change must be more than an emotional appeal. Preparation for protest through prayer and study are vital elements for continuity and success. When visible problems are correctly understood as displays from hidden conditions in the human spirit, we are more correctly guided in our work to identify and secure sound solutions.

There is far more to be said, correctly applied, and spiritually apprehended. (For example, many seek the Kingdom of GOD to obtain freedom; and are upset to find it is not the “Land of Do As You Please.” The definitions of freedom and religion we need, here, will be different from those of the World.) Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful. Be it unto you according to your faith.

Somewhat. It's really hard for atheists, like myself, to get into government positions.
