it is just sad when the christian has the best answer... Esp on the topic of wicca...but here goes nothing

Magic is not color coded... the world just doesnt work that way... the subjective "goodness-or badness" of a spell is based on the intent of the practitioner. Is it evil to do a spell to put a murderer behind bars? Is it "harm" to bring a rapist to justice? there is no "black or white magic" magic is energy directed to achive specific goals, energy does not have a color, directed or free...it is still just energy, power, chi, quintessence,Prana etc...

Wicca IS a religion, not just a hobby for the "college report" answer... i hope your professor gave you a d for that tripe...

I am sorry but meeting with your coven three times a month for rituals and once every other week for classes, on top of "little c" craft sessions & ritual writing sessions, and open sabbats and the semi regular drum circle is a bit more of a commitment than a hobby, like collecting stamps or scrapbooking...not to mention daily meditations, and communing with the ancestors...If you are doing it correctly it is quite a bit more engaging than buying a few trinkets to decorate some pictures of your summer vacation...

Wicca is NOT the "path of light" that is utter crap... wicca is a balancing act... you have to balance the light with the dark, the god with the goddess, all aspects of self need to be explored while on the path to priestess & high priestess, including the shadow self...

the wiccan rede is not LAW it is simply a guideline to strive for...how & the heck are you gonna "harm none" you gotta eat to survive...if you want to take it out of the mundane context and apply it only to will working (magic) then when spell work is performed it has a ripple effect, what is "good" for you may bring inadvertant harm to another...so if wiccans follwed the rede as law they would all be either ascetics living off of dirt, or frozen in place unable to do anything... for fear of causing harm

The Wiccan religion in an initiatory mystery religion founded by Gerald B. Gardner in the early 1950's. It incorporates elements of Masonic Ritual, British/Irish folklore. It is a religion that follows and Wheel of the year Wiccans gather together for 8 sabbats, as well as working during the lunar cycles (esbats) There are 4 levels of initiations in traditional Gardnarian Wicca 1-3rd degree then the sublime or elder level. it is said it takes a witch to make a witch however, Since the mid 1970's there has been a movement of ecclectic DIY wiccans, who have had no formal training beyond what they could glean from books. There are many groups out there that offer training, also many books & websites where you can get more basic information on the subject. some are

Wicca is a earth-based religion reconstructed using beliefs from religions that predated Christianity. It is not an organized religion, but its followers do believe in certain common things.

All Wiccans believe in a Higher Power. Many see this Higher Power as logically divided into two halves, a male and a female, that work together to achieve balance. Some Wiccans see the Higher Power as purely female, while others see the female aspect as being the stronger/dominant of the two.

Another common belief is in the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Wiccans, for the most part, believe in reincarnation for all things, from a blade of grass to humans. Most of us do not believe that humans are reborn into other animals; instead, it goes like to like, at least when it comes to species.

We revere the elements and the ways that they balance with each other. Balance is an important aspect of Wicca; balance within yourself as well as within the world is the goal of Wicca.

We practice magick, although not hexes and curses. Our spells, at least the way I see it, are more like prayers backed up by a lot of focus and energy in an attempt to change something for the better. We are told to look at the consequences of things very carefully.

There are eight holy days that we celebrate known as Sabats, and most also celebrate the full and sometimes the new moons. We see everything as being interconnected.

Wicca is not, contrary to popular belief especially among Christians, Satan-worshiping. We don't even believe that such an entity exists. To us, there are negative and positive aspects to everything; some have more of one than the other, but that's another part of our balancing act. Satanism is completely different.

Witchcraft is also different, although sometimes they are thought to be interchangeable and a lot of Wiccans will call themselves Witches. I do sometimes, myself. However, the difference between Wicca and Witchcraft is that Wicca is a religion and all rituals and spells are centered around that, while Witchcraft is not a religion, it is spells and such done in a more secular manner, believing in the power instead of Deity to do what is desired. Also, a more "offical" difference is that Wicca is recognized by the U.S. government as being a religion, while Witchcraft is not. There can be good Witches or bad, as well as good Wiccans or bad. It has more to do with the wielder and the use that the knowledge is put to, just like most other things.

Wiccans either practice solitarily or with covens. Solitary Wiccans might meet in groups and even perform rituals together, but covens are more formalized, like the difference between a bible study and a church.

Now, as to why I am a Wiccan? It fits me, who I am and what I believe. I love the way that I feel when I am performing a ritual or meditating to commune with the Higher Powers. I'm happy. That's why I'm a Wiccan.

Wicca is a new formal name for an ancient earth religion practiced all over the world throughout history. It is basically a more modern version developed from a conglomerate of the many earth religions. You can be pagan and not follow Wicca, it is one of many paths available. I am a practitioner, learning every day what it means to be Wiccan.

to people like Martin.. the whole concept of do what you want as long as no one gets hurt is not like you intend it to be percieved. That includes harming yourself and others. I personally believe that most of the pagans/Wiccans I know have more morals than most Christians I've known. Spreading hate is not loving your fellow man and spouting bible verses to people who don't believe in your Satan or the concept that God loves you only sometimes is pointless.

Wicca is a fairly new religion, worshiping many different God/Goddesses. They celebrate 8 sabbats and full moon esbats. They are generally considered the white "witch". They deal only with good magicks. While regular witches deal with black magicks. They have a code of ethics which basically is "And it harm none, do what you will". It is a very earth based religion. At least that's what it is for me.

Wicca is a religion based, in part, on ancient, northern European Pagan beliefs in a fertility Goddess and her consort, a horned God. Although the religion is a modern creation, some of its sources pre-date the Christian era by many centuries. Most Wiccans do not believe that their religion is a direct, continuous descendent of this earlier religion. They see it as a modern reconstruction.

To be Wiccan is to follow many paths, but always the path of light. To believe in Lourde&Ladye follows many codes, but Wiccans always as I said follow a path of light. Do as thout will& harm no one. That is the Wiccan way as written in the Wiccan Rede. I would suggest starting there, and also witchvox.

Bright Blessings on your path

wicca and 'white' witch craft. love spells, money spells, candles altars and running around naked in the woods...pagan rituals really...it's more of a hobby than a religion...no, i'm not one, i did a college report on it.

Out of deference to the people who practice Wicca and who have written to me about this response, let me qualify it by saying that this is a combination of Biblical perspective and historical facts and the historical portions do not apply to each and every practicioner of Wicca.

Wicca Spells - What is Wicca?

What is Wicca and what are Wicca spells? While it is rooted in ancient pagan beliefs, the Wicca religion, as it is practiced now, is only about 50-years-old. Wicca is a belief system cobbled together in the 1940's and 1950's by Gerald Gardner from a variety of religious traditions and beliefs as well as Freemason rituals. Since Gardner published several books espousing his system of worship, many offshoots and variations of Wicca have sprung up.

There is no particular agreement between Wiccans, or "wise ones" concerning what they believe and worship. Some worship the "Goddess," some worship the "God," and some worship both. Others worship nature. Some Wiccans say they embrace Christian doctrine, while others reject it. Most promoters of Wicca believe in reincarnation.

One thing most Wiccans agree on is the fact that Satan is not a part of their pantheon and they vehemently deny Satan-worship as one of their practices. This is because they disavow the notion of moral absolutes. There is no such thing as good or evil, because it is all relative. Wiccans have only one law that they bind themselves to, called "The Rede." It simply states, "Do what ye will, harm ye none." In other words: "Do what ever you want to as long as no one gets hurt." The Three-fold Law governs consequences, and is a law of returns that states, "All good that a person does to another returns three-fold in this life; harm is also returned three-fold."

Wicca Spells - Mind Control

What about Wicca spells? Not all Wiccans practice witchcraft (which they call "magick" to set themselves apart from illusionists and magicians). Magick is to Wicca what prayer is to Christianity. Wiccans claim that the practice of magick is simply using their minds to control matter, while Christians call upon God to heal people and to intervene and work in their lives. Because the Rede forbids harming others and the Three-fold Law sets forth consequences for those who do, Wiccans view themselves as "white witches" or "nature witches."

Wicca is basically a religion that is about minding your own business and living peaceably with your neighbors and environment. Wiccans are eager to draw parallels between themselves and biblical Christianity for the sake of earning credibility, but what does the Bible have to say about this religion? You won't find the word "wicca" in the Bible, so let's evaluate the beliefs in light of what God says about them.

Wicca spells are idolism - Romans 1:25 says, "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things, rather than the Creator…" Who wants to settle for second best? In Isaiah 40, God paints a very cool picture of how much greater the Creator is than His creation. If you are worshipping anything besides the Creator, you are just spinning your wheels.

Wicca spells bring false hope - Hebrews 9:27 says, "…Man is destined to die once, after that, to face judgment." God says we get one chance at life, and that is it. There are no do-overs. If we don't accept God's gift of Jesus in our lifetime, He judges us as unwilling to be in His presence, and we are sent to Hell.

Wicca spells bring disillusionment - Mark 7:8 says, "You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men". God is God, and we are not. We have a decision to make. Are we going to take God at His word and adopt His worldview, or not? Knowing God is hard work that takes a lot of discipline. Wicca is a religion that takes a pack of lies, ties it in a romantic ribbon, and searches out a well-intentioned, but lazy and gullible mark to sell its hollow doctrines.

Wicca spells bring rebellion - Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says, "Let no one be found among you who… practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells…Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD..." Wicca witchcraft is a sin and God hates it. Why? Because it is an attempt to cut off our dependence on God and get answers apart from Him.

Wicca Spells - Separation from God

This is what sin is all about. Sin isn't just a heinous, socially disagreeable action. Sin is our decision to disagree with God on any topic - to rebel against Him. Sin is saying, "God, I want to live my life MY WAY." Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death…" This isn't bodily death, this is spiritual death: eternal separation from God and all the blessings that His presence brings. This is the definition of Hell: the absence of God's presence. That is what our sin buys for us.

Thankfully, Romans 6:23 doesn't end there. It goes on to say, "…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." God knew that we would all rebel in one way or another, and he provided a way for us to avoid that separation.
