Greetings,

The accusation that Jehovah's Witnesses have claimed to be inspired prophets or have tried to predict the future is absolutely false and a misrepresentation.

It is an irrefutable fact that Jehovah's Witnesses' very doctrine has ALWAYS been that the gifts of inspired prophesying, direct communication from God, and special knowledge ceased after the Apostles died. This is a belief that has NEVER changed from their modern day inception as Bible Students to the present day. Therefore, any claim that Witnesses have personally received direct communication from God can only be viewed as a misrepresentation of the facts.

Notice this documented evidence:

"Nor would we have our writings reverenced or regarded as infallible, or on a par with the holy Scriptures."--Zion's WT Dec.1896

"It is not our intention to enter upon the role of prophet to any degree, but merely to give below what seems to us rather likely to be the trend of events—giving also the reasons for our expectations." Zion's WT Mar. 1904.

"We are not prophesying; we are merely giving our surmises,...We do not even aver that there is no mistake in our interpretation of prophesy and our calculations of chronology. We have merely laid these before you, leaving it for each to exercise his own faith or doubt in respect to them." --Zion's WT Jan.1,1908

"No, The Watchtower is no inspired prophet, but it follows and explains a Book of prophecy..." This sentence appeared in EVERY issue of the Watchtower up to the mid- 70's!

There are scores of similar WT quotes that go back to the 1800's.

Did early JW's (Bible Students) have incorrect understandings of Bible prophesy? Yes, of course, as did nearly every other religion of that age. I can give you quotes from well known Protestant clergymen from 1823-1870 who pointed to some of the same dates that Bible Students did. You can trace almost every religion's roots back to some of these clergymen! Now just because they were wrong in their timing, does it *prove* that their current doctrine is wrong? No. Only the Bible proves doctrine right or wrong. Does it mean they were false prophets? No, just honestly mistaken. Virtually every religion was influenced by the "Advent Movement" of the time, and thus had incorrect expectations!! Since these "false prophet accusations do not take this into consideration, they are faulty and prejudicial reasoning.

But, Jesus didn't say you would identify "false prophets" because they never misunderstood prophesy (indeed that would exclude the apostles). He said that you would discern the true Christians from the false prophets "by their fruits," or the results of their Biblical teaching. Now, who has the historical fruitage of bloodthirsty wars, immorality, sectarian violence and factional splits? (Gal.5:19-23).

Scriptures say true worshipers could be identified in at least three main ways: Love, Truth (Jn.4:23; 17:17), and Fruitage (Mt.7:16ff). Conversely, by these we can also identify the false.

The True religion would be primarily known for it's love toward all (Jn.13:34,35; 1Jn.3:10-12; 4:7, 8). This would include their enemies (Mat.5:44-48; Rom.12:17-20; 1Pet.2:21-23; 3:8- 9). It would not participate in or condone carnal war (2Cor.10:3,4; Isa.2:4).

Apply this basic evidence to what happened in both world wars and current conflicts. People of the same religions met on battlefields and slaughtered one another because of nationalistic and racial differences. Each side claimed to be Christian, and each side was supported by its clergy who claimed that God was on their side. The definition of a "Christian" is "one who does what Christ would do": WWJD (1 Pet.2:21). The slaughter of "Christian" by "Christian" is rotten fruitage. It is a denial of any claim to being the true Church (cf. Mat.26:52; Rev.18:4).

The true religion would have a reputation for promoting exceptional morality in its members (1Cor.6:9,10; Eph.5:3-5; 2 Pet.3:14; 2Cor.7:1; 2Tim.3:5). Does a religion *require* their congregation members to live moral lives, not allowing practicers of homosexuality, fornication, or adultery to be accepted members of their congregation? Or do they turn a blind eye? If so, their "fruitage" would show they are not true Christians.

The true Church would be engaged in an unprecedented teaching activity (Matthew 24:14, 28:19, 20). Witnesses right now are performing the greatest Bible education work ever done in all human history!

I have examined almost every religion and I have not seen another one whose members as a whole "practice what they preach," or even unitedly agree on what they should preach. I believe that only Jehovah's Witnesses can meet these requirements.

Yours,

No. Actually by the fruitages the Witnesses produce, the love they have among themselves no matter where they come from, the fact they stay neutral in the world, the fact they display love for God and their neighbors, that they exercise faith in Christ Jesus, preach the good news of the kingdom as Christ Jesus commanded, and live a clean, moral lifestyle as outlined in the Scriptures, prove that they are the true disciples of Christ Jesus.

They are not a cult or a sect broken off from another. They are an organization by themselves that belong to God. He has chosen them out of christendom's religions to be his own and to be called by his name, Jehovah. When professed Christians were absorbed into Babylon the Great, the world empire of false religion, during the long centuries of the great apostasy, there must always have been a few individuals who tried, against great odds, to do Jehovah’s will. These were righteous like wheat hidden amid a profusion of sectarian weeds.—Revelation 17:3-6; Matthew 13:24-29.

12 Jesus promised that he would be with these wheatlike Christians “all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” He knows who they are and what good names they made for themselves. (Matthew 28:20; Ecclesiastes 7:1) Imagine the joy of those faithful “few” who were still alive at the start of the Lord’s day! They were finally separated from spiritually dead Christendom and were gathered into a righteous congregation more like the congregation in Smyrna.—Matthew 13:40-43.

13 Those in Sardis who are faithful to the end and do not sully their Christian identity attain the realization of a wonderful hope. After the establishment of Jesus’ Messianic Kingdom in 1914, they are resurrected to spirit life and as conquerors are arrayed with white outer garments in symbol of their flawless, untainted righteousness. Having walked the cramped road that leads to life, they will enjoy an eternal reward.—Matthew 7:14; see also Revelation 6:9-11.

What is a fake prophet? Not a fake predictor of parties ........ Hey wait a minute there are 30 or so dates set via a precise institution - you're no longer overlaying all of those dates!! Okay again to the Question. _____________________ What is a fake prophet? Not a fake predictor of parties? k - in the event you wish to suppose those weren't finish time dates set via the WTB&TS - might be they had been a little bit off or overzealous approximately a date right here or there. But 30 occasions!? (Hey pull my finger! I heard a child ask yet another) Maybe you imply a instructor of fake doctrine? So a prophet teaches forged bible founded doctrine that is unchanging and unchangable? k - If "New Light" or a brighter gentle is well ample motive to miss fake instructing - (Wheres that child - I scent anything rotten.) Let me see what number of exclusive phrases can be utilized as prophet or for prophet......... I'm watching it up......... A man or woman with: "speaks via divine thought" - If it's divine thought then there isn't going to be doctrinal turn flops. Are there no turn flops? No alterations and mistakes? No "virtually" totally re-written or retooled books? "ethical perception" - thou shall no longer permit the child take blood or pass to the gurus approximately abuse to get the moment witness of DNA. Quite ethical certainly!! "powers of expression" - upon the beast rides the Harlot and a institution such because the WTB&TS hitchs a experience too. What an expression Harlot upon the beast after which become a member of her?! "a predictor" - included that one above "a soothsayer" - equal as a conman see "a predictor" above. "the spokesperson" - How very presumptious a man or woman or institution need to be to expect to take the position of Jesus. Jesus used to be the final prophet. Jesus via Him all used to be fulfilled and foretold. The final prophecy via Jesus used to be given to John and is referred to as "The Revelation of Christ Jesus". Even the least of the apostles, Paul, or the high-quality fisherman Peter, didn't presume/expect "prophethood". Warriors pop out and shapen your sword.

Another (apostate) who is angry, maybe if she examined her past life, she would see why she is upset, angry, there are scriptural reasons for her rants.

Apostasy is abandoning or deserting the worship and service of God, actually a rebellion against Jehovah God. Some apostates profess to know and serve God but reject teachings or requirements set out in his Word. Others claim to believe the Bible but reject the religious organization they belong to.

Not only do they abandon the their faith but they then “beat” their former associates, using public criticism and other methods to hinder their work; the efforts of such apostates are devoted to tearing down, not building up.

Paul contrasts this situation with how Christians should conduct themselves toward one who had been a Christian “brother” but who was expelled from the congregation because of wrongdoing:

“But now I am writing you to quit mixing in company “not associate,” with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man.”

the Bible commands Christians not to keep company or fellowship with a person who has been expelled from the congregation.

Thus “disfellowshiping” is what Jehovah’s Witnesses appropriately call the expelling and subsequent shunning of such an unrepentant wrongdoer. Their refusal to fellowship with an expelled person on any spiritual or social level reflects loyalty to God’s standards and obedience to his command at 1 Corinthians 5:11, 13.

But how many churches today comply with God’s clear directions in this regard?

IDENTIFYING THE "PROPHET" -- "So does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them of dangers and to declare things to come? These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet?...This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian Witnesses...Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a 'prophet' of God. It is another thing to prove it," (Watchtower, Apr. 1, 1972, p. 197). (See Deut. 18:21.)

* 1897 "Our Lord, the appointed King, is now present, since October 1874," (Studies in the Scriptures, vol. 4, p. 621).

* 1899 "...the 'battle of the great day of God Almighty' (Revelation 16:14), which will end in A.D. 1914 with the complete overthrow of earth's present rulership, is already commenced," (The Time Is at Hand, 1908 edition, p. 101).

* 1916 "The Bible chronology herein presented shows that the six great 1000 year days beginning with Adam are ended, and that the great 7th Day, the 1000 years of Christ's Reign, began in 1873," (The Time Is at Hand, forward, p. ii).

* 1918 "Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particularly those named by the Apostle in Hebrews 11, to the condition of human perfection," (Millions Now Living Will Never Die, p. 89).

* 1922 "The date 1925 is even more distinctly indicated by the Scriptures than 1914," (Watchtower, Sept. 1, 1922, p. 262).

* 1923 "Our thought is, that 1925 is definitely settled by the Scriptures. As to Noah, the Christian now has much more upon which to base his faith than Noah had upon which to base his faith in a coming deluge," (Watchtower, Apr. 1, 1923, p. 106).

* 1925 "The year 1925 is here. With great expectation Christians have looked forward to this year. Many have confidently expected that all members of the body of Christ will be changed to heavenly glory during this year. This may be accomplished. It may not be. In his own due time God will accomplish his purposes concerning his people. Christians should not be so deeply concerned about what may transpire this year," (Watchtower, Jan. 1, 1925, p. 3).

* 1925 "It is to be expected that Satan will try to inject into the minds of the consecrated, the thought that 1925 should see an end to the work," (Watchtower, Sept., 1925, p. 262).

* 1926 "Some anticipated that the work would end in 1925, but the Lord did not state so. The difficulty was that the friends inflated their imaginations beyond reason; and that when their imaginations burst asunder, they were inclined to throw away everything," (Watchtower, p. 232).

* 1931 "There was a measure of disappointment on the part of Jehovah's faithful ones on earth concerning the years 1917, 1918, and 1925, which disappointment lasted for a time...and they also learned to quit fixing dates," (Vindication, p. 338).

* 1941 "Receiving the gift, the marching children clasped it to them, not a toy or plaything for idle pleasure, but the Lord's provided instrument for most effective work in the remaining months before Armageddon," (Watchtower, Sept. 15, 1941, p. 288).

* 1968 "True, there have been those in times past who predicted an 'end to the world', even announcing a specific date. Yet nothing happened. The 'end' did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why? What was missing?.. Missing from such people were God's truths and evidence that he was using and guiding them," (Awake, Oct. 8, 1968).

* 1968 "Why are you looking forward to 1975?" (Watchtower, Aug. 15, 1968, p. 494).

A JW might say that the organization is still learning. If that is so, then how can they trust what they are taught now by the Watchtower? Will what they are being taught now change also?

A true prophet of God won't err in prophesying. Only a false prophet does. The Jehovah's Witness organization, that claims to be a prophet of God, is really a false prophet. Jesus warned us by saying, "For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect -- if that were possible" (Matt. 24:24).
