Question:
is the bom really a book of faith?

it does take a lot of faith to believe in a book of fiction. educated persons in many fields have examed the bom inside and out and concluded the facts do not support the text.b. young tried to supress the publication because of so many errors. j.smith and a few others put the bom to gether. they borrowed a lot from other authors and the bible. serious readers of the bom have to be blind tol overlook the numerous errors of fiction. go on the internet where you can find the errors listed. the bom has missled thousands of good people.tthe mormons could become good christians if they god rid of the bom.

Capitals and grammar are too much for you? When you can not really argue one point accurately, is it your "thing" to jam as much as possible into one question? Pray to know if in fact the Book of Mormon is true. It is a simple thing. No obfuscation required.

In the 2nd book of Nephi in the Book of Mormon, much is repeated from the Bible, specifically Isaiah. That doesn't mean Joseph Smith borrowed verses from the Bible, it means that hundreds and hundreds of years ago when what we now call the 2nd book of Nephi was being written, the author said "I like the words of Isaiah, I think they are important, here's what I liked" and then wrote them. Other parts of the BoM seem like they came straight from the Bible because the Lord needed both His flocks to understand the same things. If I tell Greg on Main St the sky is blue then tell George on 3rd street the sky is blue, it doesn't mean George stole information from Greg, it means I told both Greg and George the same thing even though they were in different places. The errors you're speaking about are people's misinterpretations of what the BoM says.

Really? Seeing they blindly believe whatever Joseph Smith told them and nothing else, but he's found to have completely fooled them with the error-filled, heavily plagarized from the bible BOM? Why would they still choose to believe and follow anything he said after that? He made up their religion out of his vivid imagination and deviant psychological persuasions! Why would anyone continue to believe after he was exposed as the fraud he was?!

But then, I guess if Charles Manson was convicted and committed to life in prison because he's a certifiably crazy murderer and still keeps his faithful followers, why should Joseph Smith do anything less with his?

Some people have mentioned Hugh Nibleys challenge. Ive never heard of it, so I looked it up and here it is:

Below is the Book of Mormon Challenge, an assignment that Professor Hugh Nibley at BYU sometimes gave to students in a required class on the Book of Mormon. Though it is several decades old, it still offers a challenge worth pondering. The following text is taken from the Collected Works of Hugh Nibley, Vol. 8, Ch. 11, pp. 221-2:

"Since Joseph Smith was younger than most of you and not nearly so experienced or well-educated as any of you at the time he copyrighted the Book of Mormon, it should not be too much to ask you to hand in by the end of the semester (which will give you more time than he had) a paper of, say, five to six hundred pages in length. Call it a sacred book if you will, and give it the form of a history. Tell of a community of wandering Jews in ancient times; have all sorts of characters in your story, and involve them in all sorts of public and private vicissitudes; give them names--hundreds of them--pretending that they are real Hebrew and Egyptian names of circa 600 b.c.; be lavish with cultural and technical details--manners and customs, arts and industries, political and religious institutions, rites, and traditions, include long and complicated military and economic histories; have your narrative cover a thousand years without any large gaps; keep a number of interrelated local histories going at once; feel free to introduce religious controversy and philosophical discussion, but always in a plausible setting; observe the appropriate literary conventions and explain the derivation and transmission of your varied historical materials.

"Above all, do not ever contradict yourself! For now we come to the really hard part of this little assignment. You and I know that you are making this all up--we have our little joke--but just the same you are going to be required to have your paper published when you finish it, not as fiction or romance, but as a true history! After you have handed it in you may make no changes in it (in this class we always use the first edition of the Book of Mormon); what is more, you are to invite any and all scholars to read and criticize your work freely, explaining to them that it is a sacred book on a par with the Bible. If they seem over-skeptical, you might tell them that you translated the book from original records by the aid of the Urim and Thummim--they will love that! Further to allay their misgivings, you might tell them that the original manuscript was on golden plates, and that you got the plates from an angel. Now go to work and good luck!

Mormons give more to charity than any other people bar none. What a pity that this book, The Book Of Mormon Another Testament Of Jesus Christ, has led so many people to believe in Jesus Christ, and live Jesus Christ's holy and righteous commandments, and to be Good Samaritans, and to give more to charity than any other people in the World, and no other group of people is even in the same ball park.

What a pity that more people have not seen your oh so scholarly rebuttal of keeping the commandments that Jesus Christ gave to the people of the World.

What a pity that more people don't just go around and ignore the commandments of Jesus Christ, and spread venereal diseases, and have babies out of wedlock, and have abortions, and steal money from other people.

What a pity that everyone isn't like the Devil, who is against everything THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints stands for, because THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints is for Jesus Christ and for the living the commandments of Jesus Christ.

If you follow the commandments of the Devil (which is... do anything that you want to do and you will be saved by Grace in His evil rotten kingdom surely) then you will become like the Devil, who will be your eternal father if that is what you choose.

If you follow the commandments of Jesus Christ (the law of chastity, the law of honesty, the law of charity, the law of compassion, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not abuse other people, etc. etc. etc.) then Jesus Christ will be your father for all eternal time instead of the Devil.

From the Devil's perspective, anyone that does righteousness, is wrong, and to him, doing righteousness, is a pity... from his perspective.

But I would suggest the perspective of Jesus Christ is the true perspective. And I would suggest that this is the perspective that you should have. And then if you do, you will see clearly the truth, and the truth shall make you free, and you will be free to choose to become a part of THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints forever, if you want to be with Jesus Christ for all eternal time, instead of the Devil.

I hope you choose the right. But that is your choice, most certainly.

God bless.

Obviously, you haven't actually read the book of Mormon, preferring to let others do your thinking. Educated people in many fields have joined the LDS church. No man alive in 1830 could have written the Book of Mormon, least of all Joseph Smith. No one in 1830 New York knew that much about Arabia or Mesoamerica or ancient Hebrew or Egyptian practices. Had Joseph been the smartest man alive, he couldn't have pulled it off. Let alone a semi-literate farmer with a three year education.

At least 15 separate people saw the Book of Mormon, and the angel Moroni. They withstood the persecution with their sincere testimonies, and died with it on their lips. We have a duty to those who sacrificed so much to bring us this great treasure.

You do know you could also go online and find errors in the Bible and in the Christian faith in general, right? If an intellectual came up to you and said your faith in God is wrong because there are no facts supporting it, what would you do?

I can't help but feel this is just another troll, with no sources.

O.ok., think of roughly it. in the bible, God himself mentioned that there isn't any greater desirable guy that John the Baptist, yet while he baptized Jesus, God's image improve into shown in the form of a dove. besides, in the Bible, while Moses observed God, to get the ten commandments, he observed God in the form of a burning bush because of the fact the very sight of God by ability of the human eye could kill a guy - reported in the Bible.... yet, by some ability, this 14 year previous boy, who were accused of raping the governors daughter, and improve right into a gypsy, improve into plenty greater desirable than those persons, that each and all people it took improve into for him to flow and pray in a container, and he gets to be sure God, and his angels? Sounds style of hogwash to me... i know I lived the religion for some years, and then I wised up.
