I nominate this for the funniest quote of the day!

"Atheism doesn't make sense...In order to be an Atheist you have to first acknowledge that there is a God not to believe in.... "

Now, someone please explain to this person why this is just dumb.

That's as stupid as a mother telling their child "There are no Monsters under your bed!" And you saying "Oh there must be Monsters, or why would she have said it!" Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

I'm an Atheist: I don't deny God, I just know that there's no such thing.

You see some clever blokes in the middle-east thousands of years ago realised they didn't have a clue how things worked, why we were here or what our purpose was. They also realised that no one else did either so they "Made Up" a God. It was a convenient cover-all answer to all the big questions and it helped them control their growing civilisation with a Mixture of some common sense rules and the OH SO NASTY stick and carrot of the Afterlife.

So it was "Made Up" I.E. IT NEVER EXISTED IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Humans are just Apes; death IS the end; the world is unfair.

Get used to it. It all just makes more sense.

The last part of the statement is absurd.."In order to be an Atheist you have to first acknowledge that there is a God not to believe in"...that part is just plain funny.

I consider myself an atheist, somehow. Yet, i also believe that Atheism doesn't make sense, when looked at the basic explanation most people give of atheism: "I don't believe in a God, because there is nothing that can prove it to me". That's how most atheists summit their label.

That label to me makes no sense. Believing in no God, means believing in no after-life. If you die, you die, that's it. I basicly have no proof for that. There is no proof for what happens with me after i die. Nobody has ever offered scientific proof of the idea that death means the end.

So, to answer ur original question: Even if i consider myself at least 70% atheist (if that's even possible, lol), i don't think that the label "atheism" makes much sense.

Why it is dumb? Because it is circular thinking. The problem is going to be getting that person to understand that circular thinking dosn't get you any where. For some reason they can't grasp the concept.

It seems like some of the atheists on here don't know what an atheists is either. Atheists can belive/disbelive whatever they want. They can be humanists, naturalists, ect...

Mark,

You should check out Realism. It would probly make alot more since to you than atheism.

Of course atheism makes sense--it is simply a lack of belief in imaginary gods, demons, angels, heaven, hell, saviors, and miracles because NONE of these things have any scientific proof whatsoever. It makes perfect sense to not believe in what can't be proven. I mean, it would be stupid if grown adults went around believing these things just because they'd been taught them as children! Good grief, who in their right mind would believe in talking animals and voices speaking from flaming bushes and water erupting from a rock and a sea splitting down the middle and a flood covering the world?? Might as well believe there are monsters under your bed at night! Hahahahahaha!

It's only dumb because it's not understanding the dichotomy between IDEAS and REALITY.

All atheists believe that the idea of god exists, they just think that the actual being doesn't.

It's very similar to unicorns, dragons, santa claus, etc. I don't believe in any of those either, but I acknowledge that the concepts exist.

There have been cases of people who didn't believe (atheists) or wasn't sure (agnostics) about the existence of God.

But during their near death experiences they have come to the realization that God does exist and our life calls for a purpose by God.

After they were resusitated, they believed in God. I've heard of one situation where this guy was dead for a few minutes...and he went straight to hell. And he gave account, after he was resusitated, of what hell was like; cold and dark place. When the doctors and medical staff brought this gentleman back to life, he made a decision to believe in God and it changed his life for the better.

God is the changer of things and things that are of God are all GOOD. You can't go wrong with God, you just have believe in him. I'm a firm believer in God and I've have seen so many great and good changes happen in my life since I've become a believer.

God does exist...

Yeah the quote is funny...but many atheists belive in some force beyond themselves they just don't label it God (if there is one) and go to Church on Sundays. The main thing atheism tries to address is the contradiction and invalidity of Religious dogma...It doesn't necessairly mean total denial of God (if there is one). PEACE!

No, I disagree. Yeah, faith facilitates some human beings conquer complicated circumstances, yet that does no longer mean that's this extremely positive element for any undesirable human beings. in truth, i ought to guess that multiple very undesirable human beings have lost all faith in any variety of larger potential simply by suffering they bypass by potential of. by employing the way, nontheism is an umbrella time period for any ideology that rejects theism. that's no longer in certain about spirituality or discipline. And even as you ought to sense the will for spirituality and a disciplined existence, that does no longer mean that any one else does. i have been getting by potential of existence extremely properly without a want for spirituality, and that i discipline myself in accordance to my needs and those of people round me.

No, atheism makes a lot more sense than Christianity.

Atheism bases its knowledge on scientifically proven fact, Christianity bases its belief on long-since disproven absurdity.

Athiests are rejecting other's people's ideas about God. They're not acknowledging there is a God. They're saying there isn't.

Can't explain... they wont get it. That's ok, though. Frankly, if a person is not bright enough to understand what's wrong with that statement, without having it explained to them, I don't really care enough about them to bother trying to enlighten them. It'd be a waste of time.

I thought that one was funny too. How can you "acknowledge" something that you don't believe exists???

I would not "acknowledge" him as an intelligent being when I don't believe he has a brain.

So everything I don't really believe in, I must first believe in to gain disbelief. Interesting.

Sometimes, you just have to back away, and leave them to their own thoughts. I'm not sure this person can be reasoned with... :)
