Please read all the details before you answer and try not to base your answer on the assumption that I am theist or atheist.

So if you believe in one god then you believe in all gods, right? I'm not saying you "worship" all gods. What I'm asserting is that if you believe a "god" can exist then you must acknowledge the possibility that there could be more than one, right?

How can a person believe in any god and not at least acknowledge the existence of other gods? I get that Christians say that Jehovah is the one true god, but the only evidence of that is what is written in the bible. If Zeus had claimed to be the one true god would that make it so? Would you not challenge the validity of the claim if it was made by Zeus or a believer of Zeus?

In my previous question,

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiQwlqxHe6SA78T0oEDCcbfsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20121221051520AA8F92h,

some Christians said that the other gods were either "made up" or were demons. If this were true then what reason would the Christian god have to be "jealous" of phony gods? The First Commandment says "Tho shalt have no other GODS before me." It didn't say PHONY gods or MADE UP gods! Don't you think that if the other gods were FAKE the Christian god would have said, "Tho shalt have no PHONY gods before me?" Unless, of course, the Christian god is FAKE too?

There is only one God; there are no others to either believe in or worship. Now, people try it. I could worship the mug god sitting on my table. It wouldn't mean my poor mug is actually a god. To call something one's god doesn't mean that it really exists as a god.

"For even though there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” there is actually to us one God." 1 Corinthians 8: 5, 6. People talk about many 'gods' (even Satan is referred to as a god in the Bible) but when referring to the only true God, God is capitalized, noting it as a title

False. God is, by definition, omnipotent, meaning there can only be one. If He must share power with another god, He ceases to be omnipotent. And if He ceases to be omnipotent, He ceases to be God.

As for God being "jealous" of other gods: He is jealous for our affections, as a husband would be jealous for his wife if he finds out she is cheating on him. She is his and he is hers, and that's the way it should be. It is perfectly acceptable for a husband to be jealous of the man who would steal his wife's heart away. This is exactly why God has repeatedly compared Israel to His bride whenever they went after idols and false gods.

Hello,

How many counterfeit notes are in circulation in your country? Does it mean there are no genuine ones? ALL started with one genuine one, no doubt copied from a master.

It's the same with gods: there are many gods (1 Cor. 8:5), but the one who is clearly identified as THE Creator of every good thing is Jehovah, whose 'signature' is in virtually every one of the 66 books he inspired via around 40 different writers over 1,600 years. His name means 'he causes to become', identifying him not only as 'the first cause', but also as the grand purposer, able to fulfil all he wishes to accomplish, including a 'recreation' of decent living conditions on the earth.

You may ask yourself: where are 'the books of Zeus' etc.? What evidence is there?

Kind regards, Günter

False. Because the God of the Bible claims to be the one true God, he claims to be our Creator(Genesis 1), He claims to be male(Genesis 1), He claims to be made up of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Ghost(Genesis 1, 1 John 5); He claims to have provided salvation through ONE Man, and ONE MAN only...Jesus Christ(John 14:6, 3:16); He is the only God to teach salvation by grace, and not of works(Ephesians 2:8-10); He is the only God that came to earth and died for us(John 19:30, Hebrews 1:3); He is the only God to have been beaten, tortured and crucified for us (gospels); He is the only God who is alive and who has prepared a place in heaven for his faithfu(John 14:3)l; He is the only God who has promised to come back for his saved children( 1 Cor 15)...Need I go on?

Don't be confused or deceived!

There is only ONE God. All the others have been made up by men to take your focus off the only true God.

Revelation 1: 8

"I' am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.' says the Lord. 'Who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.'"

The question is a non-sequitur.

"God" means the one eternal and non-contingent entity on which all reality is based (or contingent).

It is not possible to have God and gods in the same meaning of God.

Other gods don't have the proper attributes of God. Zeus, for instance, is the child of Cronus and Rhea. As such Zeus both has a beginning and is contingent on cause (parents).

When God said to have "no other gods before me" he meant exactly what you have attempted to do here - equate other concepts of gods as God.

Be a little more discerning about the matter and you can see why no other god concept has the necessary attributes of God.

Your answer is False. Your logic is flawed and your knowledge of scripture is seriously lacking. It almost looks like you are just searching for reasons to not believe in God. This would be because somewhere deep inside you already know there is a God. Wouldn't it be better to work from there? I think so.

There is only one true God, and He is the Creator of all things. He isn't some wooden or stone object that is man-made. The idea of "gods" is pathetic.

It only makes sense that only one God who is above creation and separate from it, made this world.
