Word 'Morya' in this chant associated with 14th century Ganesh devotee Morya Gosavi who got boon from Lord Ganesha that his name will always be associated with the Lord Ganesha. This show inseparable relationship between Lord and its devotee. Word 'Bappa' is used for father or father like figure, this word is more common in Marathi dialect which is being spoken in Vharad region of Maharashtra. Thus, 'Ganpati Bappa Morya' is cheering chant for Lord Ganesha who like father takes care of all his devotees.

Actually in the time of chandragupta MOURYA there was a fan system, means kind were chosen by the small ganrajyas, (group of kingdoms)so the king if the kings(emporer), was called Ganpati, and 'bappa' means 'bap' in Marathi, means 'father' beacause king or emporer or any was "like a father"or he was taking care of his people like father, so when people said ganpati bappa morya, means great chandragupt mourya , you are father for us!!

"What is the significance of the word MORYA in “Ganapati Bappa Morya” ?

Devotees chant Ganapati Bappa Morya all the time to sing the praises of Lord Ganesh. But how many of us know what the word Morya signify?

The word Morya refers to a famous devotee of Lord Ganesha in the fourteenth century called Morya Gosavi, originally from a village called Saligrama in Karnataka where his devotion was looked upon as madness !!!

He later travelled and settled in Chinchvad, near Pune and invoked the Lord with severe penance.

He attained siddhi (special powers and blessings) at Shree Chintamani and his son built the temple to commemorate the event. It is said that Moryaji also performed penances at Siddhi Vinayak in Ahmedabad and in Moreshwar/Mayureshwar at Moregoan where also he built a temple.

Overwhelmed by the devotion of Moryaji, he was blessed by Lord Ganesha to fullfill any of his wish.

Morya asked to be remembered forever on this earth whenever anyone remembers his Lord, as his 'Param Bhakt'. Thus this depicts the inseparable relationship between God and his devotee."

Always remember this when you say 'Ganapati Bappa Morya'

Ganapati is "Lord of Hosts." It refers to Ganesh in his role of the armies of his father, Shiva. Bappa means Father. It refers to Ganesh in his more familiar and friendly role. Morya means "go forward." It refers to Ganesh as the remover of obstacles.

"Ganapati":-

Gana + pati = Ganapati. Pati is the nurturer.

The various meanings of gana are as follows.

According to Maharshi Panini: Gana is a collection of the eight vasus. The word vasu refers to direction, the guardian deity or the deity of the directions (dikpal or dikdev). Ganapati is the master (swami) of the directions. Other deities cannot reach the place of worship in any direction without His permission. Hence, any auspicious occasion or ritualistic worship (puja) of any deity is commenced with the ritualistic worship of Lord Ganapati. Once, Ganapati clears the directions, the deity one is worshipping can manifest itself there. This is also referred as Mahadvarpujan or Mahaganapatipujan.

According to Sanskrutkosh: Gana means a pure spiritual particle (pavitrak). Hence, Ganapati is the master of pure particles.

According to Nighantukosh: Gana is the collection of tiryak(raja) or visphutit (tama) frequencies which are harmful to animate creation. The one controlling them is Ganapati. There are total 360 frequencies traveling continuously through the eight directions. The collection of these frequencies is referred to as gana. Sage Hiranyagarbha was the exponent of these frequencies.

"Morya"

In Maharashtra 'Mangalmurti morya' is used to proclaim Ganapati's glory. The word morya in it refers to a famous devotee of Lord Ganesh in the fourteenth century called Morya Gosavi, from Chinchvad, near Pune. This depicts the inseparable relationship between God and a devotee.

Thanks,

Ganapati Bappa Morya !!!!!
