Question:
Are Aethists/People who don't believe in a higher power, becoming like the hardcore Christians they dislike?

Ok. I've gotten comments that have commented on the fact that the Aethist population and people who don't believe in a god at all are growing more and more. One person even commented:

"America is still a "Christian" nation. However, the atheist minority seems to be more aggressive and vocal against the Church than before."

They have become a strong voice, I believe, and are beginning to gain a lot of influence in important issues like, what are kids are taught in school and the issue of the term "God" used on American money.

Do you think, OVER TIME and if this trend continues, that these groups with become like extremist Christians: Pushing their beliefs on others, the majority of the population, the dominant voice to the American people.

Yes. Both are literal-minded, intolerant, unbending in their beliefs and incredibly harmful to themselves and their belief systems.

Yes, I do believe that everyone has a right to voice their opinion...

As a group we need to decide though on how to raise our children. And do as much of this at home as we can.

Religion does need to be separate from our government. Not absent. Just separate.

And with as many religions as we have out there now how can we give honor to each and every one of them without insulting someone.

There is a fine line and a lot of people cross it not meaning to.

What you are hearing out there isn't the majority after all... remember most people don't bother to comment on just everyday things. It has to affect them somehow before they will voice opinions.

Just my thoughts

Atheists are simply engaging in self-defense. About time, too, especially considering the following:

Discovery Institute's Wedge Document

http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/2437/wedge.html

[Excerpt]

"The Wedge Document is an internal memorandum from the Discovery Institute (the leading proponent of Intelligent Designer 'Theory') that was leaked to the Internet in 1999. The Discovery Institute later admitted to its authenticity. Since then, Discovery Institute hasn't talked very much about the document, or the strategy it outlines. The reason is crushingly obvious, since the Wedge Document makes it readily apparent that the Discovery Institute is flat-out lying to us when it claims that its Intelligent Designer campaign is concerned only with science and does not have any religious aims, purpose or effect."

Like the extremist Christians who bomb abortion clinics and picket military funerals?

Sorry I'm NOT an Atheist, but I know & respect many & much prefer the many respectful Atheists then the Few Bigoted Christians OR the many Christians who'd attack Atheists AND the Violent Christians.

Yes, I believe so - anyone who holds onto a belief will psychologically start defending it and the harder they hold onto it and believe in it and are afraid to let go, the more they'll defend it and the greater the length they will go into defending it.

This "clinginess" towards beliefs is ANY belief, be it in love, Religion, faith, Government, or a memory.

This is what some Atheists do not understand is that it's belief, itself, that is the issue, the same reason religious people kill for.

Unless they ban churches, the religious will always have a right to congregate and believe as they want.

No body can dictate beliefs, and nobody is trying to.

We can only hope, that we can prevent these beliefs (whether justified or not) from being used to dictate our laws. It is just the christian's are so used to getting their own way, they are afraid of change.

Uh, no.

First of all, people whose brains have not been turned to mush by religion are not trying to push their views on everybody. They're not going into churches saying, "You can't worship. I'm burning your bible". It's religious people who burn books, and who are terrified of other people's beliefs. We agnostic/ liberals/ educated people, whatever you wish to call us just want to be able to live our lives without having your beliefs impinge upon our freedoms. It's that simple. Like, science belongs in the classroom, and religion belongs in Sunday school. It's just that simple! Just leave us alone, and don't try to force your ideas on us! Imagine if I believed "Superman" was real! And I tried to force you to study comic books and base your whole life on Clark Kent's teachings!! How would you feel! The bible is no more "true" than a Superman comic book!

Not really. The only thing atheists all have in common is a disbelief in gods. Most atheists don't care what you believe, as long as you don't force it on other people.

Atheists are the latest targets of Christians.
2008-01-30 23:32:43 UTC
We have no beliefs to push down anyones throats. Unless you consider rationality and education something negative,
2008-01-30 23:26:32 UTC
Theists and atheists are alike in that they both delude themselves into thinking they're right about something neither can actually know.
2008-01-30 23:20:55 UTC
That would be WAY down anyone's list of reasonable things to worry about.
2008-01-30 23:29:36 UTC
Oh trust me, they're a lot worse than that. :)
