Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?

Question

No one celebrates all the holidays, so a "Happy Holidays" seems insincere aside from really wishing nothing in particular to no one in particular. I'd prefer for people to express their own personal holiday, whether it's Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukah, Happy Solstice, or my own Merry Christmas.

How about it - better to try and include all with a generic Happy Holidays or express your wishes in your own language with a Merry Christmas or the equivalent?

I really don't understand what all the confusion is about. If it is a christian holiday, then use the traditional greeting . What is the big deal? would it kill anybody to respect another persons religion? I am an atheist, but I don't choke when I say "Merry Christmas", or get a case of hives when I say "Happy Hanukkah". What is wrong with people? Don't people realize that they are just being bigots when they act like that. I guess from now on they would prefer that instead of saying "happy birthday" we should say "happy personal holiday". Sounds pretty stupid doesn't it? Being politically correct has become more important than peoples feelings. What a screwed up society we've become!!!!!

In my Christmas card I usually write Happy Holiday , Very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year. I write the happy holidays because I for one celebrate Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years and then 3 Kings Days {I'm Puerto Rican}. But in the Spanish cards I leave out he happy holidays {don't think we have the equivalent for the fraise} and just wish them a Feliz Navidad y Pospero Ano Nuevo. Merry Christmas to you too ^_^ DJ

If I know what holiday the person celebrates, then I like to be specific. Otherwise, I say Merry Christmas. One thing I can't stand is when people ASSUME you celebrate a certain holiday just by looking at you... like saying "Happy Kwanzaa" because the person is Black... that sort of thing will back-fire on you. Better to be sincere than make assumptions or try to be overly political.
