"I’ve read that the word good used to have a secondary meaning of holy, but I can’t trace that back in my etymological dictionary. There are a number of cases in set phrases where the words God and good got switched around because of their similarity. One case was the phrase God be with you, which today is just good-bye. So perhaps Good Friday was originally God’s Friday. But I think we call it Good Friday because, in pious retrospect, all that tragedy brought about the greatest good there could be."

yeah...it doesn't make sense because it's probably the darkest day in the history of the planet. Jesus did sacrifice his life that day so that we could have a relationship with God. This story is found in a part of the Bible called the Gospels which means "Good News". I guess because of this Good Friday is called "good". (However, the really good thing happened on Sunday, when Jesus came back to life)

Why is Good Friday referred to as “good”? What the Jewish authorities and Romans did to Jesus was definitely not good (see Matthew chapters 26-27). However, the results of Christ’s death are very good! Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 1 Peter 3:18, “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit.”

Good Friday is considered as the day that Jesus sacrificed himself for us. He died on the cross for EVERYONE. That is how much he loves us. Enough to spare his life.

It's because that is the day we recognize the day Jesus was crucified...and why was he crucified, well he was perfect, never sinned EVER...and he died for that all of mankind's sin could be forgiven. It's an oxymoron in that sense...

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world (Earth) that he gave his one and only Son,(Jesus) that whoever believes in him (Jesus) shall not perish but have eternal life."

IT WAS FOR OUR "GOOD" ITS OUR WAY OF REMINDING HIM OF THE GOOD HE DID FOR US.
