I've just seen this posted in an answer on here!

The Land letter was a letter sent to U.S. President George W. Bush by five evangelical Christian leaders on October 3, 2002, outlining their theological support for a just war pre-emptive invasion of Iraq. The letter was written by Richard D. Land, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. It was co-signed by Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries, Bill Bright, chairman of Campus Crusade for Christ, James Kennedy, president of Coral Ridge Ministries, and Carl D. Herbster, president of the American Association of Christian Schools.

So my question what is your opinion on this and does anybody from the evangelical church know if this support was withdrawn after there are no WMDS found??

And evangilecal christians do you think they were right to send this letter of support?

Sweetie,

Excellent questions.

To the best of my knowledge the letter was not withdrawn.

I wrestle with the issue of pastors being involved in influencing public policy, when it comes to international policy. It sort of violates Colossians 3:1-3, which God mandated Christians to do.

For pastors to support the government when the government is doing right is great.

I knew nothing of the letter, but I believe our invasion of Iraq was warranted and proper. The handling of the war since has been bogged down by partisan politics, and has probably not been properly handled. I like everyone else would like to see the war ended, but to end it and withdraw without finishing it would be a mistake.

BTW: Colossians 3:1-3 has nothing to do with the subject. These verses have to do with the affections of the heart - those things which we occupy our time with and place as important in our lives.

Dear Sweetie

I starred your question - had no idea that such a letter was ever sent or knew of its existance! It is fascinating the stuff you can learn on R & S. Will hang around and learn something new.

I don't know about any letter.

Did you watch the 60 minutes program where they showed that Sadaam tried to make everybody believe he had WMDs? And there were other justifications for going in Iraq.

What is false religion? Are you distressed about crimes committed in the name of religion? Do the warfare, terrorism, and corruption perpetrated by those who claim to serve God offend your sense of justice? Why does religion seem to be at the root of so many problems?

The fault lies, not with all religion, but with false religion. A widely respected religious figure, Jesus Christ, indicated that false religion produces bad works, just as a “rotten tree produces worthless fruit.” (Matthew 7:15-17) What fruit does false religion yield?

MEDDLES IN WAR AND POLITICS: “Across Asia and beyond,” says the journal Asiaweek, “power-hungry leaders are cynically manipulating people’s religious sentiments for their own needs.” As a result, the journal warns: “The world threatens to sink into madness.” A prominent religious leader in the United States declared: “You’ve got to kill the terrorists before the killing stops.” His solution? “Blow them all away in the name of the Lord.” By contrast, the Bible says: “If anyone makes the statement: ‘I love God,’ and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar.” (1 John 4:20) Jesus even said: “Continue to love your enemies.” (Matthew 5:44) How many religions can you think of whose members engage in war?

i'm unsure the place to deliver the letter Michael. yet, i could choose to place in writing him and thank him for the dazzling activity he did as President. everybody who complains approximately him could desire to objective to be President. i will guess they could't do it!!!!

I don't have an opinion about this letter, as I have not seen it.
