Question:
Where do you think Atheism will go in 2008 ?
2008-01-02 07:59:31 UTC
Will many more people become a group of arrow head
non believers. Secular progressives, are becoming
even more aggressive. And some have even filtered
their way into Conservative territory. By changing laws,
and perpetuating immoral acts of homosexuality, and
Anti Christian, or sacreligious content. An under
cover grass roots effort to try and thwart out the
good works of christianity. But in 2012, it is said that
there will be an even greater religious movement that
will be heard all around the world. And it will be in our
favor. Us meaning Christains and other religious fanatics.
So, what will become of the Atheist community ?
Is a revolution of rebellion among us ? Where do you think
Atheism will go in 2008 ? Best answer wins. ~~~

Same place it went last year no where

Well as a conservative atheist I am rather amused by some of that.

The fact is that Christianity has been pushing this country for about 50 years toward a much more religious agenda. It hasn't always bee that way, and you are starting to experience a bit of back lash from it, just like you did when you guys pushed the anti-alcohol agenda in the 20s. You have a further problem right now in that science has eliminated most of the need for a god to explain things like where we came from so you don't automatically look like you have answers anymore.

The trend lines are all up for atheism growing. Look at what has been happening in Europe and you will get the idea. The US is about 5-10 years behind, but on the same path.

Atheism is a private affair, we don't need organizations. I think we will all be in the same place we were in 2007. As far as what you write, it is nothing but tripe. The United States at any rate is a constituional democracy. The seperation of church and state is clearly defined and has been well defined in the last 200 years or so. Clearly in 4 years there won't be any signficant changes in this country at any rate. Most atheist and most people of faith that I know are fairly centrist. Like everywhere else there are a few fundamentalist crazies that try and impose their view. If that's the rebellions you speak of--it will fail--and if illegal acts are committed to pursue it--those fundamentalists will find themselves incarcerated with the rapists and murderers.

In 2008 I think I will go to college, where I will stay until 2012 when I receive a doctorate in Computer Science. After that I think I will get a job or "infiltrate" the government and be a network security guy. I'll work there until I decided to go into the private sector (my best guess is some time around 2020). Either way I plan on being here until I die, and if it is of natural causes I'll probably die around 2055.

Probably not that much further than it is now (though a fundy defeat in the US election would help a lot).

The elimination of religion is not going to happen overnight but will be a slow process taking place over many generations (and it's been going on for quite a few of the previous generations).

Though the attack on religion probably won't let up (nor should it), for us to win we are going to have to get religion firmly on the defensive and completely eliminate the taboo against criticising religion.

Nothing interesting related to this topic is likely to happen in 2012 (except a bunch of people who expected the end of the world getting proven wrong).

Another bad christian trying to use the word atheist as a dirty word!!!

Ignorance to the fore again!!!

Atheists simply do not believe in a god - any god - not just yours. As such many follow religions, sects and spiritual beliefs that do not have a god.

It is not atheists which are the backlash to the church but good Christians driven out by the idiocy being spread as christian on here!!!!

Every posting like yours heaps more ridicule on Christianity and reinforces the view that the so called Christians on here are simply ignorant and uneducated in even the most basic art of simply looking up a definition in the dictionary and understanding it!!!!

I am a Christian and to be honest I think Religion is far too political at the moment.

After all Jesus did say "Give to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's"

Ok so He was probably talking about taxes at the time. But to me it says keep your political affairs separate from God. I hate it when just by saying "Im a (follower of a certain religion)" world leaders increase thier votes, sometimes gaining votes from entire areas.

And You know what else Jesus said? "He who is without sin may cast the first stone" Before you condemn decent people who do not beleive in God remember that following God doesnt make you a good person- Its actions not words. And if you think your little speech is going to bring people to Jesus then you are, my friend, VERY mistaken...

I would consider keeping these thoughts to yourself in future.

How would you tell a five year old that there is no Santa Claus? Tough, and sad. That's how I feel when some religious zealot asks (and preaches) about atheism. How sad that you will never know. Judging by your tirade, you are biased and bigoted beyond help. Maybe, just maybe some day, our education in this nation will prevent these ancient ritual beliefs from being spread to the unknowing, like yourself.
2008-01-02 08:06:39 UTC
But in 2012, it is said that

there will be an even greater religious movement that

will be heard all around the world

it is said? it is said?

That just sums up ignorant people like you?

No facts, just, it is said, brilliant!!!!!!!

I'm the furthest thing from a Christian, but I think atheism is a dead end. It's like all thought, discussion, everything just ends with an atheist.

The idea that there's no God is a possibility. There are MANY others.

So I think to fight the religious extremism we're seeing, it's helpful to not instantly identify as someone who thinks there's no God - I think to reach people like this it's better to come across as open-minded, humble, and progressive.

And I want to be pretty clear - it's not the atheists who are the greater threat to us right now, it's the fundamentalists.
2008-01-02 08:05:45 UTC
Why is it that you think it is right for the world to be run by a Christian government? Government and law should have nothing to do with religion. Atheists are not going to " take over the world " and there is no rebellion.
2008-01-02 08:08:25 UTC
I think that within the next 10 years or so, there will be some violence perpetrated by the religious right, as their power is stripped away from them.

Yes, I can see Christians rioting in the streets.

And when they do, it will only hasten the end of their religion.
2008-01-02 16:56:35 UTC
in the same place as 2007. is 2012 a magical number? and of course the best answer wins. that's the whole point of y/a.
2008-01-02 08:57:29 UTC
So not only are you prejudice against atheists, you're prejudice against gays too. You wanna go for prejudice against moogles too so you can hate me even more? :)

Btw, 2012 does not mark a significant date for Christianity, it was actually other past religions that claimed the date was the end of the world.
2008-01-02 08:10:00 UTC
Let's make a deal. When we get to the year 2013 with no problems, all of you people who think something prophetic is going to happen in 2012 please just go inside, lock yourself in a room, and never speak or contact the outside world again. Agreed?
2008-01-02 08:10:01 UTC
" But in 2012 , it is said " . Why said ? Where did he get his information ? Guesses are worth zero .

In Western Europe religion is just about kaput . We're somewhat slower , for whatever reason , but superstitions are all loosing out to common sense and reality .
2008-01-02 08:12:04 UTC
You are so correct and insightful. Atheism is of the devil and should be stomped out. They hate our God and deny his power, but they truly believe, thus making them all the more evil.

In 2008, atheism will grow, so will the power of Satan in this world, but it will not last. In 2012, we will take back this world in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and those who would be against will get their just judgment in the lake of fire. May they all repent and come to know the true love of the Lord our God and Jesus Christ who died on the cross to provide a path to the one true God!

Lack of adherence to christian dogma does not equal anti-christian.

What atheist ever forced a christian to engage in homosexual acts?
