Why don't the Jews (or Christians) offer animal sacrifices to the LORD anymore?

Lev 8:13 Next Moses presented Aaron's sons. He clothed them in their tunics, tied their sashes around them, and put their special head coverings on them, just as the LORD had commanded him.
Lev 8:14 Then Moses presented the bull for the sin offering. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the bull's head,
Lev 8:15 and Moses slaughtered it. Moses took some of the blood, and with his finger he put it on the four horns of the altar to purify it. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. Through this process, he made the altar holy by purifying it.
Lev 8:16 Then Moses took all the fat around the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat around them, and he burned it all on the altar.
Lev 8:17 He took the rest of the bull, including its hide, meat, and dung, and burned it on a fire outside the camp, just as the LORD had commanded him.
Lev 8:18 Then Moses presented the ram for the burnt offering. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the ram's head,
Lev 8:19 and Moses slaughtered it. Then Moses took the ram's blood and splattered it against all sides of the altar.
Lev 8:20 Then he cut the ram into pieces, and he burned the head, some of its pieces, and the fat on the altar.
Lev 8:21 After washing the internal organs and the legs with water, Moses burned the entire ram on the altar as a burnt offering. It was a pleasing aroma, a special gift presented to the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
Lev 8:22 Then Moses presented the other ram, which was the ram of ordination. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the ram's head,
Lev 8:23 and Moses slaughtered it. Then Moses took some of its blood and applied it to the lobe of Aaron's right ear, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot.
Lev 8:24 Next Moses presented Aaron's sons and applied some of the blood to the lobes of their right ears, the thumbs of their right hands, and the big toes of their right feet. He then splattered the rest of the blood against all sides of the altar.
Lev 8:25 Next Moses took the fat, including the fat of the broad tail, the fat around the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat around them, along with the right thigh.
Lev 8:26 On top of these he placed a thin cake of bread made without yeast, a cake of bread mixed with olive oil, and a wafer spread with olive oil. All these were taken from the basket of bread made without yeast that was placed in the LORD's presence.
Lev 8:27 He put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons, and he lifted them up as a special offering to the LORD.
Lev 8:28 Moses then took all the offerings back from them and burned them on the altar on top of the burnt offering. This was the ordination offering. It was a pleasing aroma, a special gift presented to the LORD.

I don't know about Jews but christians stopped doing it because Jesus was the last sacrifice ever needed.

Here is how it works. a sacrifice would be done to clean away your sins but god always knew that for him it would never be enough. When god came down in the form of Jesus he basically came to be the sacrificial lamb for all of mankind washing away the sins of the past present and future. hence why he called the lamb of god.

because Jesus is god in human form and is all good his sacrifice more than pays for everybody sins.

anyone who sinned sacrificed and died before Jesus arrived is forgiven provided that they believed Jesus would come and they believed in god the father.

essentially now the greatest sin that you cannot be forgiven for even if you are truly sorry is to go through life denying that god and Jesus are real and that jesus died to wash away your sins.

Its a lot but i'm sure that hits the nail on the head.

No. First off, cats and dogs aren't kosher. Only kosher animals were sacrificed because the sacrifice was actually a way of slaughtering animals to eat. Life is considered holy and the taking of the life of an animal was not to be done lightly. The dominant branches of judaism have not performed sacrifices since the destruction of the second temple. The exception to this is a holiday called kapparot, which may involve the sacrifice of a chicken, though some jews just burn fake money instead and most secular jews have never heard of this holiday and will give you really odd looks when you tell them about it. A few smaller groups of jews, perhaps some karaite and Ethiopian jews may still sacrifice a lamb every now and then, especially in parts of the world where lambs are customarily slaughtered (and eaten) in celebration or to honor a guest.

The Jews have neither the tent nor the temple with which to make such sacrifices. Give them a little more time; they will according to prophecy have another temple.

Christians are not under that covenant. We are under a new covenant. The Bible is clear that there would be a new covenant unlike the old one.

Jeremiah 31:31

"The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah."

Luke 22:20

In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you."

The new covenant had the better more perfect sacrifice. Jesus is the sacrifice of the new covenant.

the aaronic priests are not doing their job and even if they tried the hellenistic jewish government presently in power would not let them, and the rabbis that usurped religious authority after the temple was destroyed by the roman legions in 69/70 ad would not want to lose their control.

the jewish government presently recognizes only the rabbinic religion as its national religion

bible prophecy says that some thing is going to happen to make the government change its mind at least 75 days before the tribulation starts that will cause the jews to go back to offering sacrifices for 45 days and then comes along the beasts of revelation 13 and stops the sacrifices and 30 days later the tribulation begins - daniel 12 / 2 thessalonians 2.

when Messiah returns the temple will be rebuilt and the aaronic priests restored to their work again - ezekiel 40-48

Jews I don't know but Christians believe that Jesus dying on the cross was the ultimate, perfect sacrifice. So no other sacrifice will ever be needed.

Sacrifices were introduced by God as away for mankind to acknowledge that he needed reconciliation with God.

Initially with Adam and Eve and than down the ages until Jesus made the supreme sacrifice on your behalf.

John 3:14-21 MKJV

14 But even as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

15 so that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.

18 He who believes on Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

21 But he who practices truth comes to the Light so that his works may be revealed, that they exist, having been worked in God.

In order to fully understand this you have to understand the significance of –

Genesis 1:31 MKJV

And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good.

Followed by recognition of the fact, that God has tried many forms of reconciliation between Himself and mankind since then.

This is generally not understood because people no longer read and study the Bible for themselves. They just accept what men and women, with a qualification in worldly wisdom, tell them the Bible is unreliable. Or worst still distort the Bible message to match there own theories and ideas as to how God deals with mankind.

Well, California Rob:

The Jews were commanded to do it in Jerusalem but you know the situation there. Who knows, someday the temple will be rebuilt and they'll rekindle those offerings.

For Christians, they recognize that the blood offerings were atypical, that is, symbolic of the sacrifice of Jesus, as John the Baptizer said: "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world."

Did you know the Bible code proves Jesus is that Lamb, that abolished the sacrificial system? Read the FREE e-book that proves this at: http://revelado.org/thetimeoftheend.pdf

Jews don't offer animal sacrifices any more because the place to do so, the Temple in Jerusalem, was destroyed in approximately 73 c.e.

Another thing to consider is that animal sacrifices were never the only way to atone for sins. Just as a store will allow you to pay by cash, or check, or credit card or food stamps, etc., so too G-d allowed Jews many way to atone. Leviticus 5:11-13, Numbers 17:11 and Numbers 31:50 from the Torah each demonstrate cases where atonement is achieved without bloodshed. In the first, a poor man is allowed to give flour instead of an animal sacrifice, in the second Aaron makes an atonement with incense and in the third, golden ornaments were donated as atonement.

Here are some other references:

Hosea 6:6. For I desired loyal love, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

Psalms 40:7 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.

Psalms 51:18 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

Proverbs 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

Proverbs 21:3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

Isaiah 1: 11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

Isaiah 43:23 You have not brought me the small cattle of your burnt offerings; neither have you honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with a meal offering, nor wearied you with incense.

Jeremiah 6:20 To what purpose comes to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor are your sacrifices sweet to me.

Jeremiah 7:22. For I did not speak to your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices;

Jeremiah 33:18. Neither shall the priests the Levites lack a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meal offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.

Hosea 14:2. O Israel, return to the Lord your God; for you have stumbled in your iniquity.

3. Take with you words, and turn to the Lord; say to him: Forgive all iniquity, and receive us graciously; so will we offer the words of our lips instead of calves.

Also-- animal sacrifices were primarily used for unintentional sins, not for all sins:

Numbers 15:27-31:

"If a person sins UNINTENTIONALLY, then he shall offer a one-year-old female goat for a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement before the Lord for the person who goes astray when he sins UNINTENTIONALLY, making atonement for him that he may be forgiven . . . But the person who does anything DEFIANTLY, whether he is native or an alien, that one is blaspheming the Lord; and that person shall be CUT OFF from among his people. Because he has despised the word of the Lord and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; his GUILT shall be on HIM."

Leviticus 4:2-3

"When a person UNWITTINGLY incurs guilt in regard to any of the Lord's commandments . . .he shall offer for the sin of which he is guilty."

So, to sum up--

Jews don't offer animal sacrifices because:

1. The Temple in Jerusalem hasn't been around for approximately 1,927 years, and

2. It's not a requirement anyway.

For Christians: Jesus was the final sacrifice

For Jews: No temple
?

Judaism is a progressive religion, and the history of its progression is retained in its writing. animal sacrifice started out as feeding the gods in order to appease the gods, but over time and gradually, the animal sacrifice became a festival to feed the poor and the priests.

since when do christians make sacrifices!?
2009-09-24 05:49:14 UTC
Why dont they offer human sacrifices or eat children anymore?
2009-09-24 05:45:48 UTC
Nobody is qualified to offer animals to God
?
2009-09-24 06:48:28 UTC
Because animal sacrifices had to be done again and again because they could not remove future sins.

Only the shedding of Jesus blood could forgive us for ALL our sins, past, present, and future! He has forgiven EVERYBODY of all their sins.
