Question:
I feel as if the Bible is corrupted by Man?

The title is probably offensive to some but hear me out OK? After asking some questions lately questioning my beliefs as I have come to a conclusion. I will fully accept that there is a God out there but is not exactly as the Bible portrays him. The bible is based on historical facts but is it really a reliable source? As a Christian, I believe that gay marriages, sex before marriage is perfectly fine. How is it that God will find it wrong for us to love someone simply because they're the same gender if that's the way he made us? I am not gay but I feel as if the bible has taken away a human right, and that is the right to fall in love with anyone they wish. We cannot help our sexuality as that is the way God has created us. Sex before marriage is not admittedly advisable but it is quite a common thing in our modern society. Though back in time the Bible was written, these things were considered horrible by man. That's why I dislike it when I try to point out these things to Christians and they say: "Are you sinless? How can a sinner judge God's word" or "It's right because God says so!". No, God did not say so, the Bible said so. And how do we know that the Bible wasn't corrupted by Man? How can we be sure? How is there evidence? These things that God supposedly dissaproves matches up to what was unaccepted by a lot of ancient society and not just the Christians but also many other non-Christian communities.

I wish to find an answer with absolutely noreferenceto the Bible's information as that's how many people have answered me. No preaches, flames just a simple explanation.please.

I feel fairly certain that to some extent it was corrupted - I'm not talking "OMG Da Vinci code" level - like some of the people up here are saying. I just think as time went on, people must have twisted a few words here and there sort of thing

You're a smart individual - not in a patronising way. It's nice to see that you're not letting your religion rule you blindly. I'm religious myself and I have to agree with you that the bible isn't entirely "pure".

I believe in my religion but my religion isn't all of my beliefs - Humanity wouldnt be where it is today if we lived by every word by an old book.

I'm an Atheist and an Ancient Texts scholar too: 1) What Muslims and Jews, claim (better say, KNOW) is that through a volontary misinterpretation of the Gospels (the New Testament) Christians claim something that's written NOWHERE = that Jesus was God's Son. That's an assumption, a simple assumption, that's neither written nor proved nowhere; the truth is that it is simply an invention of the early Fathers of the Church. 2) On the other hand, what (we) Archaeologists, Historians, Philologists and educated Atheists KNOW for sure is that not only what Muslims and Jews claim is correct; but that even the Old Testament was corrupted by men in oder to fit the new rising Monotheistic Faith born back in thew 6th Century BC. Ancient Sumerian texts in facts tell a different story and that's the true one. 3) Therefore, your question is wrong: there's no contraddiction in Islam: Islam has the very same Patriarchs named in the Old Testamen as well as the very same Godt; and it's actually a religion BASED on the Old Testament; what doesn't add up for Muslims is just the New Testament instead and the way Christians used it to claim their version;) P.S. for your information, 'their Allah' (as you call him) is YOUR very SAME GOD= YHWH= Jehovah;)

The Old Testament is not based on historical facts (even though some events may indeed have happened, although not necessarily the way they're described in the Bible), but on oral traditions, written down centuries after they allegedly happened. The New Testament is also based on oral traditions, written down decades after the events. We do not have any original texts whatsover left of any of the gospels or letters, but copies of copies of copies. Since there were conflicts between different groups of Christians who interpreted what Jesus preached differently (some said, for example, that Jesus was all divine, some that he was all human, some that he was a human possessed by a being called Christ, etc., some said you have to obey the Mosaic laws and be circumcised to be saved, some that Jesus did away with all that, some even said that the god of the Old Testament and the one of the New Testament are two different gods, since they are so different from each other), and all sides, including what later became the surviving church happily changed in the texts, either to make the texts more clearly say what you interpreted them to say, or simply change them to fit the interpretation of the group you belonged to. We have also no way of knowing what was changed in the copies that were later copied. In short, the Bible is in no way a reliable source to anything other than itself, if that. If God really exists, and the Bible actually is his word, wouldn't you expect something more... I don't know... coherent?

i haven't heard of any other societies at the time of the bible's revelation that demanded such moral behavior. where do you find that information?

your choice is up to you, but maybe you should see it another way. what if you're wrong about this? you obviously have doubts about whether you are correct in your thinking. why do you want to take a chance?

and what do you lose if you obey the bible as if it was written by God? nothing as far as i can see. do you believe that you understand God completely? obviously you don't, because you wouldn't have any questions about anything. so why do you think you will understand all of His laws?

my dog doesn't understand why i won't let her eat off a plate on the table. to her it makes perfect sense to get up on the table and lick the plate. i mean, to a dog, why not? but she doesn't understand all that i do. she doesn't understand that she will make a mess that i will have to clean up. she doesn't understand that it is poor behavior of a dog. she doesn't understand that i don't want her slobber all over my plate. she just doesn't understand.

but she listens to me because i tell her to. does that make sense?

I agree with you. I don't think they did it on purpose though. It's like a rule book so you don't sacrifice children and do it with women so you make babies. No rational person believes that being gay is sending you to hell. I could go on and on but you get the idea. Now, here is what I think. The Bible was talking to very primitive superstitious people. You were to absolutely believe in this one God but you had to be an Israelite, a chosen one and you had to follow his commandments or you would incite his wrath. I think that through evolution, God realized this was not working and decided he needed to incarnate as a man to teach Men how to live with each other so he hung out with prostitutes and tax collectors and showed them love was the answer. The sin is not in the act, but the intent. If there is no evil intent and only love, then everything is forgiven. Jesus died for us to save us from our evil nature and it is the time of year for questions of this nature as it is Lent.

I hope this helps

God Bless You

The Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god! He took the Jewish religion and basing it on the Mithras religion, organized it into Christianity and then into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely ITALIAN!

Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

What a wonder full disinformation and deception campaign he waged against his Jewish enemies by turning them into his invented Christianity - so good in fact that Christians are still following the deception to this day!

Firstly, you are not a Christian. Secondly we do not stone non believers, we just pray for them to see the light and come to christ. If you were Christian, you would not question your maker and leader. The very fact that you deny his commandments sets you apart from the frock.

Looking at animals, they do not go about loving the other gender the way we humans do. They respect the way they were made and accept as fact that without the opposite gender, no sex is possible.

I agree as does my church. The Bible is a collection of books, poems and letters written by men, inspired by God, subject to human error.

You'll find many verses where prophets and others had trouble describing things they were seeing and how to explain things God told them. That was probably why Jesus spoke in parables, since it would make it easier for us to understand what he was trying to say.

You'll also find Genesis to be rather brief on the creation of life on earth. I guess it would be difficult for humans to understand it all.

Why should being 'a common thing in our society' be a guide to reality?

If you dig deeper into Scripture you will find more than meets the eye.

The bible is based on historical facts but is it really a reliable source?

yes it is god gave man the message to write

How is it that God will find it wrong for us to love someone simply because they're the same gender if that's the way he made us?

god never made people that way

god calls it a sin

no one has a right to commit immoral actions even if they are adult

Are you sinless?

no we are not sinless no one is that does not mean we accept their immoral actions as normal

How can a sinner judge God's word" or "It's right because God says so!".

god tells us to judge sin

John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

And how do we know that the Bible wasn't corrupted by Man? How can we be sure?

it is god's word and god tells us his followers it was not corrupted by man

How is there evidence?

god's creation tells of his power

the witness of men who saw and experienced god

the holy spirit who lives in every believer

You may feel that way, but your feelings are not based on the facts.

God justifies sinners through faith in Jesus Christ and gives them His Holy Spirit. This is only the beginning of a process that will one day bring them to perfection.

In exalting your own opinion above the plain teaching of the word of God, you make your own opinion an idol. You may think you are a Christina - but you are still just a rebel in heart.

"We all, like sheep, have gone astray,

each of us has turned to our own way;

and the LORD has laid on him (Jesus)

the iniquity of us all. "

You preach a gray wall of text at us, and then expect that we not preach to you? Please ask a question, so we can answer it.

No one will force you to believe the Bible, if you don't want to, but what else do you have? How else are you going to identify God's word to man?

Christians' bodies are members of the body of Christ, and fornication - regardless whether it's gay or straight - is the only sin they can commit against their own bodies, so when they fornicate, they do so using Jesus' body:

"Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." - 1 Corinthians 6:15-20 (KJV)

The implication of committing fornication with the body of an unwilling participant will tell you how God feels about this - particularly when it's Jesus' body!

No one will force you to call yourself Christian, so no; you don't have to believe.
