Question:
Should we end religion before religion ends us?

There is one constant for all living creatures that cannot be avoided - change. Time progresses, present environments alter and life must adapt or face the consequences. Religions, with their strict book of laws and tradition are slow to change. They resist change like a dam wall resists the natural flow of a river. To live under the influence of religion, which was a choice our ancestors freely made, is to restrict the natural flow of concepts which have allowed humanity to reach heights of technological advancement that our ancestors never could have imagined. This is a radically different environment today than that which was faced by humanity 2000 years ago. We must change and adapt or suffer the fate of all living creatures that don’t – extinction.

I completely agree with you. Luckily humanity has changed over the last few hundred years to allow science to develop. I think that through scientific discoveries the religious idealogy will slowly begin to conform more closely to science and only the ideas that are not strictly prohibited by the rules of science will be allowed to continue. Of course there will always be the fundamentalists who refuse to let go of their superstitious beliefs. But hopefully as human knowledge progresses and advances these primitive beliefs will only be held by a small minority.

No i do no longer agree. and known off there is not any longer lots of a stem cellular debate. there is an embryonic stem cellular debate. all the successes so a techniques have come from grownup stem cells no longer embryonic. they're hopeful that embryonic stem cells can interior the top triumph over the matters it faces yet have not yet. And in case you seem further on the stem cellular debate previous all the words being thrown around. you will hit upon what's fairly at heart is the difficulty of cloning embryonic stem cells. So particularly some politicians basically say seem have been having all the success in an are it is not ethically questionable and failure on the different element, shall we persist with what have been doing and not supply investment to the element desirous to clone. it is not a collection of loopy bible thumping fundamentalist attempting to wreck each physique's social gathering for no reason.

Religion, yes - Christianity, no!

Humanity has *also* reached heights of technological advancement, that some, otherwise intelligent, people have allowed themselves to believe they *know* that Evolution is a fact, that Global Warming is "proven" science (by consensus, no less), that acid rain from Ohio is causing environmental problems in New England, that second-hand smoke is a health hazard, that there "must" be intelligence life on other planets, that T. Rex was a meat-eating carnivore instead of a rotten-flesh eating scavenger, ad infinitum!

Also, some people believe that Islam, Freemasonry, Mormonism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, and Jehovah's Witnesses are legitimate religions!

Religion is a personal matter. It has existed in one form or another throughout much of the history of mankind, whether it was the sun being worshiped or the Son, or anything or anyone

else. Most religions have changed throughout time. Attempts at destroying certain religions have only succeeded in driving them into secrecy until they felt safe. Attempts at ending religion would have the same result.

So by your ill-fated analogy of religion and change to a dam wall holding back millions of gallons of water that would no doubt wipe out many lives were it allowed to break loose, you would be the one to open the flood gates in the name of progress? You really are stupid, aren't you? Hell, I'll bet that monkey on your back has a higher IQ than you do.

Yes. But i don't believe our ancestors chose freely, it was battered into them from a young age as it still is today, but now we have better knowledge about science and less fear of an unknown "being", which can only be a good thing. Religion is based on fear of the unknown, but hopefully it's losing its'grip on humanity

Absolutely.

Religion was designed by Satan to make all of us confused about the Word of God and apparently it has worked for many. Forget titles and become a child of God. John 3:16 no confusion there Love and Life no religion

I get your point but I do not agree with everything. In my opinion, religion does change. Well, I know Christianity has. Because I am. In my country, masses air on tv for the sick people and other reasons why people just cannot attend masses. Masses can also be heard in malls. Catholicism has certainly fit in in this generation. Instead of just organs in churches, we have a drum set and that's just cool.

God bless! Always.

For continued human progress, some things are better off left unchanged -- like morality, social consciousness, altruism. Otherwise, it's nothing but a jungle out there, man's inhumanity to man, and social genocide on the horizon.

True religion brings out the best in humanity. It helps us to reach beyond ourselves and connect with something higher than our biological needs.

We know what the fate of living creatures are. That's why we don't change. We read the last chapter.

If you end religion, than you would have to end atheism as well. You would have to end Philosophy. You would have to end emotions. You would have to end the night clubs. You would have to end the Satanic religion as well.

Why?

Because there are two spirits fighting in a tuggle war for the souls of humanity. You would have to give up on Satan or Christ.

The reality is you would still continue to worship one or the other. It is not your fault and my fault. God created us with the natural desire to worship Him; and if we don't worship Him, we are either worshipping ourselves, something or someone else. You can get the state to ban religion. You can even get rid of Christians from this earth. Even if only atheist are left, you will still have religion. Because you will still have that built in desire for something. Would still have Satan also.

You don't have to consciously accept religion. You don't have to consciously worship Satan. It's all about who's in control of your life. It's all about who's will you are doing. In the judgment day all mankind will fall in one of the two categories for eternity.

Since Christ already won the battle by looking weak and defeated on the cross. I'm willing to follow His path looking weak and defeated under my cross. I pray for strength to carry it and be crucified with Him in His humiliation. Satan had the chance to make Christ sin and fail on his mission, but Satan failed. He also had the chance to destroy the church, but He still failed. While encouraging his followers on earth today, Satan already knows that he lost the battle. But he can't let his follows know this.

I'm afraid religion is much deeper in it's breath and height then you imagined. But blessed be the one who chooses the side of the winner who is interceding for us in heaven. Amen.

Have societies which have "ended" religion fared well. I believe not (Soviet Union, North Korea, Cuba, China, France shortly after the revolution).

I thought atheists needed evidence, yet there is no evidence to support your claim that non religion is any better than religion.

Have you read Sam Harris? I'm willing to bet so. There are some holes in his arguments but he makes decent points.

As for religion, I dont think it can ever be eliminated but the influence it holds over the political machinery in the world definitely needs to be loosened. America is getting scary and its mainly because of so called 'christians'.

Precisely because the holy books are fixed and society changes they will falter. But it will take time. 2000 years, 5000 years, it seems like a lot but we are just getting started. For those doubting it will happen, do you think the egyptians imagined their gods would be discussed in mythology class?

Atheist alter call huh?

Oh! No! If we don't teach atheism then the world will end! Same with biologists and evolution.

No, I don't think so. The natural flow of concepts appears to have done quite well so far.

Cheers :-)

Religion is what turned mankind from being barbarians to civilized humans.

That was Secularism, Sean.

Religion is what made them into barbarians to begin with.
