Question:
It's impossible to win a religious argument?
?

Every time I argue with anyone religious (I'm atheist btw) and I come to a logical conclusion and they find themselves dumbfounded, they resort to saying "well you just gotta have faith". I'm sorry, I just totally owned your argument and you think you just won because you believe in yourself? Nice try. Why do you religious people do that? You can't stand getting uber powned by us intelligent atheists? And ffs, don't quote scriptures from the bible, it just makes you look stupid.

Much like war games, the only way to win is to not play. Assuming that isn't an option...

The reason you are frustrated is because faith is a perfectly good answer. Faith is beyond logic and what can be observed. It is a belief that transcends the natural world. You can't disprove faith, so don't try. If you feel the need to engage in this type of discussion, I suggest you fight battles rather than try to win the war. Poke holes in the foundation. Don't try to destroy it.

No, it's certainly possible to win a religious argument against somebody. I've seen some people get brutally defeated when they couldn't back up a single point they tried to make. This goes for all sorts of debates, not just religious ones. I've certainly lost some on occasion. It's also possible to have two people debate and both be under the illusion that they both won. Trying to get somebody to ADMIT that they clearly lost a debate is a another story too.

>>they resort to saying "well you just gotta have faith".

That often translates to: "I just lost the debate". Obviously the person didn't think it was purely a matter of faith, otherwise, they wouldn't have tried having a logical debate in the first place!

I won a discussion once about religion......the lady said the bible was written by God....I asked if anyone has ever seen his handwriting, has anyone ever claimed to have his autograph ? How did he write the Bible then send it down to earth and hide it in jars etc ? The discussion went on for a long time and she finally agreed that the Bible was not written by God but by others after being told what to write ! that started another discussion !!!!!

An argument is not a discussion; the objective of it is to win- at least in your own mind. Arguments don't change minds of the apparent losers either. Nothing changes the mind of a person determined not to change. A discussion is different; it is a conversation that may lead to learning and change, and requires open minds. Rarely happens on this issue.

Well, yeah, we know now that the bible is completely lacking with actual evidence and that the usual justification for beliefs is locked in logical fallacies and anecdotes that don't say anything definitively....but with that said, it's not right of you to say that we're smarter than them because they can't defend their faith...it just means that they should know better than to try to justify something outside of their own personal beliefs. And usually, when I hear the "faith" argument, I move on because they've already conceded that they don't actually have any proof....but I don't act like I'm better than them....I just think more rationally.

If you measure winning by the other party changing their mind, you cannot win an argument against someone who doesn't accede to you winning it.

Which is why insults and derogation are the most counterproductive thing you could possibly say in an argument.

I don't believe you (I won't say you are out-and-out lying ) because if it were that common you would have a link. I suspect that you actually lose those arguments almost all the time but you win them in your head. You really could have easily linked one.

I'll tell you right now that Judaism and Christianity both oppose "you just gotta have Faith' -- that is called FIDEISM. Especially Catholics reject that COMPLETELY.

You are too desperate to prove your point. You must have low self-esteem. You can't "own" a person's argument the same way that you can't own a person's thoughts, unless you're Sauron of Lord of the Rings.

Edit: lol- Oh, I see! Just because it's a "saying" then it's true. (dumbass)

I'd be happy to have a religious debate with you.

Read this article if you have the time this is how I fight most of my religious debates.

If you could reason with religious people, there would be no religious people.

religious people do that because they have been brainwashed for so long, that it's impossible for them to stop their delusional bullshit.

And yet you still do it

Its kind of like watching a puppy run into the same glass door over and over again

BTW we are not arguing, we know the truth. We are trying to give it to you.
