I am hopefully going to start at a new job soon that is at an adult day care facility for the ederly and somewhat mentally challenged. They said its okay to do devotionals with them each day. My shift is from 8-430 each day I was wondering if anyon had any good ideas on what time to do the devotionals and what are some god topics to do them on. I am new to my faith about a year now and Im not very goo on the Bible. I am n avid reader but the Bible has some very hard parts that I just cant interpret properly and I dont want to teach anything wrong or to difficult either for that matter. I know it can be a learning experience for me to teach them and learn from them as well I just dont know how to approach it

Buy the book "My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. This will give you a daily idea. You can add anything personal to it. I would suggest about 10:00. Any later and their mind will be on eating lunch. Afternoon is nap time. Talk to the people there and see what they suggest. Nobody knows them better than they do. Include a song if you can. They love to sing. May God bless you in your endeavor. If you find the book too difficult for them just use parts of each day's devotional.

At 3PM say The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy. It could be said on regular rosaries. And it means so much to the sick and dying. The Chaplet is excertped form (Divine Mercy in my Soul: The Diary of Blessed Faustina M Kowalska) The most harden sinner would be forgiven by our Lord Jesus if only said once by the sinner. Please check this out it will save souls. "Jesus, I Trust in You!

I really like Josh McDowell's books. He writes devotionals for families and teens. :) Crosswalk.com is a good resource, too, for learning about the parts of the Bible you don't understand. Be aware that not everybody's interpretation of the Bible is biblical, so always compare it to the source, the Bible. Bless you for wanting to bring God's Light into their lives. I'm praying for you! :)

For me, the easiest way for me to share God's word with others is to begin by asking for His assistance. Ask Him simply, "Lord, what should I say". Tell God you are willing to be His vessel and ask Him to use you. He is faithful. He will do it.

Try thinking of an event in your life in which you were an overcomer. Then think of the one life lesson you gleaned from the experience. Hone the life lesson down to one word, then using a search engine or concordance, find scriptures that fit.

For an example, check out some of my devotionals. I am called to evangelize and edify through testimonies of everyday life.

I will be praying for you.

love,

your sister in Christ,

Well, I am a devotional writer, and what I've done is share a different Scripture with my group as well as the groups that I belong to, and include a thought for the day. My suggestion is since you're dealing with a live group, you may want to read a verse, and ask for thoughts. That will provide an open forum.

I would go to a local Christian bookstore and check for devotionals and also use some visual aids. Mardel Bookstores has a wealth of visual aids for teachers. Forget Oswald Chambers for the elderly, they will have a difficult time understanding ... too deep ... keep it simple! Make sure each day before you go to your job to pray for the Spirit's direction and seek God's will. You will be blessed and will be a blessing to others. May the LORD bless your God-sized mission!

Here is a good website http://blueletterbible.org/devotionals.html

Also your local Wal-Mart probably has a number of Day by Day Devotional books for around $10-12

I would look at the book of Proverbs...It is self explanatory and is about daily life.
