These sound like disappointing events, but not "horrible".
Dear, take a look at the damage that the tornados ripping through the midwest and some southern states a few days ago caused. Friends of mine who were there helping folks after the fact said things like the following:
"These people have lost everything. They are in need of food, water, clothing, shelter, basic living items, etc."
"Having spent much of the day comforting folks and feeding them homemade soup, I have seen up close and personal the devastation, and the impact it has left on the community. But I have also witnessed the strength and resiliency of these people, and felt their heartfelt thanks at being alive."
Now, compare your "horrible" to theirs, these people whose homes and communities were destroyed. It's all about your perception of yourself and your life.
Perhaps you need to take some time to make a gratitude list for yourself. Change the way you think and you'll change your life.
Also, perhaps you need to accept some personal responsibility here - some of this stuff doesn't just "happen to you" without you contributing to the cause. For example, your grades dropped - well, did you slack on your studies?
