I have the same thoughts and this is a great quote. You look up Buddhism it's not a religion it's a philosophy, a way of life.

[Creeds] have been the bane and ruin of the Christian church, its own fatal invention, which, through so many ages, made of Christendom a slaughterhouse, and at this day divides it into castes of inextinguishable hatred to one another.

-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Thomas Whitmore, June 5, 1822, quoted from James A Haught, editor, 2000 Years of Disbelief

On the dogmas of religion, as distinguished from moral principles, all mankind, from the beginning of the world to this day, have been quarreling, fighting, burning and torturing one another, for abstractions unintelligible to themselves and to all others, and absolutely beyond the comprehension of the human mind.

-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Archibald Carey, 1816

The word "pagan" derives from the Latin word "paganus" which just meant "country dweller." The word "Heathen" means essentially the same thing, someone who lives out in the heaths .. in the country. I guess living out in the rural areas might make some people think you are uncivilised, but that's not really a bad thing. People who live in the city can be much less civil than people living in the country.

Back when Christianity was taking over from Paganism, most of the people in the cities were Christians or Jews and people in the country, who hadn't yet adopted the new Christian religion, were scorned as, essentially, hicks. "Those silly, rustic pagans, with their old religion living out in the sticks. What hicks."

There's nothing particularly pure about civilisation or Christianity. Just think about the Council of Nicea in the 4th century when those in charge of the church threw out books of their bible that didn't agree with the current belief system.

There is no one true religion. Every religion has a bit of the truth, and every religion has some destructive beliefs. People just find the religion (or "relationship with Jesus") that suits them best . It may well be the one true religion FOR THEM, just as someone else will have another one true religion for them.

Look at all the denominations of Christianity -- if Christianity were the one true religion ... why are there so many different flavours of that ONE? They can't all be the one true religion.

I think we need to look for the common ground between religions, rather than focusing on the differences. I think the common ground is very simple, "Be nice, try to cause no harm." Why do we need any more than that? Wouldn't that make the world a better place?

1.The true religion has respect for God's word, not watering it down, using some parts and disregarding others-2 Timothy 3:16,17 2. It is "no part of the world". It doesn't get involved in politics, nationalism or class struggles-John 17:16 3. It has as it's members people who have "love among themselves". They do not go to war against one another. They are not divided by various religious differences-John 13:35;1 Corinthians 1:10 Ask yourself: 1. What religion has members who are known for their strong moral values? 2. What religion is well known for expelling unrepentant wrongdoers? 3. What religion has not taken up the attitude that certain sexual practices, once thought of as sinful, are now o.k.? 4. Which religion refuses to go to war, get involved in politics, nationalism or class struggles? 5. Which religion has members who, worldwide, do not believe that we have an immortal soul, that God and Jesus are part of a trinity, the wicked, after death, are alive being eternally tormented? Look for the one that has all of this and you will find the true religion.

I don't believe it's possible for there to be one correct way.

If there was, we'd all intuitively and innately have an understanding of it.

The only truth that holds up for any religion is that *some* humans have a need for some form of spirituality/religion.

That need is about all we have in common.

I see no need to argue about who is more "right".

First examine the book that the religion is using, is it the truth? First find the definition of truth @merriam-webster.com, then examine the book, if it tells the truth then the book is true, then examine their preaching according to their book, and if the teachings complys with the book then it must the right one. Therefore you have the formula for finding the one true religion. Seek and ye shall find and ask and it shall be given.

There is no one true religion, and anyone who states that is rather deluded.

If you read the bible, the qua ran, the bhagavad gita and/or the veda's you will see that they all have only one main goal; for the betterment of the human condition

People who have taken Christianity only by name and have used the name wrongly. The Catholics are no doubt who you are referring to.

Given that what you say has happened it leaves the question; should it have happened given that as you say Christianity is the true religion or faith?

Try to follow along and think about it because this answer does make sense:

Jesus gave an illustration showing that a corruption would happen to Christianity. Note the following scriptures:

(Matthew 13:24-30) . . .Another illustration he set before them, saying: “The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man that sowed fine seed in his field. 25 While men were sleeping, his enemy came and oversowed weeds in among the wheat, and left. 26 When the blade sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds appeared also. 27 So the slaves of the householder came up and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow fine seed in your field? How, then, does it come to have weeds?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy, a man, did this.’ They said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go out and collect them?’ 29 He said, ‘No; that by no chance, while collecting the weeds, YOU uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest; and in the harvest season I will tell the reapers, First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up, then go to gathering the wheat into my storehouse.’”

(Matthew 13:36-43) . . .Then after dismissing the crowds he went into the house. And his disciples came to him and said: “Explain to us the illustration of the weeds in the field.” 37 In response he said: “The sower of the fine seed is the Son of man; 38 the field is the world; as for the fine seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; but the weeds are the sons of the wicked one, 39 and the enemy that sowed them is the Devil. The harvest is a conclusion of a system of things, and the reapers are angels. 40 Therefore, just as the weeds are collected and burned with fire, so it will be in the conclusion of the system of things. 41 The Son of man will send forth his angels, and they will collect out from his kingdom all things that cause stumbling and persons who are doing lawlessness, 42 and they will pitch them into the fiery furnace. There is where [their] weeping and the gnashing of [their] teeth will be. 43 At that time the righteous ones will shine as brightly as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let him that has ears listen.

.........................................................

So if you can understand this is a prophesy from Jesus time up until the harvest or Jesus return. Jesus referred to it as what he had started ("Christianity" or the fine seed) would be like a field of wheat. When this field started and was just planted, it had only just started to grow and everything was good. Then in the meantime an Enemy (Satan) over sewed the field with weeds, hence corrupted what was good with bad. In the illustration the workers returned and informed the master what had happened and what to do. The master (Jesus) said to let them grow together until the harvest.

So Jesus was saying that Christianity would be corrupted by the figurative weeds. But he wanted to let them grow together until the end and this was to fully display itself above the weeds so that at the conclusion or harvest, it would be well above the weeds and figuratively easily harvested.

So the weeds or corruption would still be existing at the end. What would happen to them? They would be gathered and burned.

Something most people do not understand is God wants us to work to know him and select based on our efforts. It is obvious who the wheat are and who are the weeds. There is one true Christian organization and many false.

Satan although he is the enemy of God has it in his purpose to make it hard to get to know God. Satan roots out all who are not strong and perceptive to God's ways. It is a sad thing, but a lot of people will miss out due to ignorance because God in these last days, makes things fully displayed for all to make the correct decision. It is up to each individual to choose wisely.
