Question:
What are some non-religious reasons to ban gay marriage?

I'm often labeled as the weird guy for caring about things I have nothing to do with but to me it's just like racism.
Have there been ANY reasons at all besides saying it's immoral in the eyes of God?
Because if not, I think gay marriage should be legalized because there is an apparent separation of church and government.

Aside from non-religious bigotry--probably as widely practiced as religious bigotry, if not as systematically so--I can't see any reason.

People with obvious religious motives HAVE been trying to figure out ways to present them in non-religious terms, as a cover for sneaking them into secular politics. The most popular one is to argue that children do better when raised by parents of both sexes. The argument has two fundamental flaws:

(1) It's largely based on statistics comparing children of single parents to children raised by couples. Those presenting this argument then claim that since they don't recognize gay marriage, the statistics about children raised by single parents apply to those cases.

(2) The overwhelming statistical evidence is that having more than one parent, regardless of genders, is far more important. Parents in stable, loving relationships are more effective and a better example. And refusing to recognize relationships between parents of the same gender is not going to cause them to break up and seek opposite-sex relationships, so it's just an attack on the stability of families and therefore on the children of those families.

Yes, there is a non-religious reason.

Marriage is a legally binding contract between a couple and government, constructed under the government's rules. A marriage licence is permission granted by the government to engage in the contract. By signing the marriage licence you are agreeing to abide by their regulations. The government then applies laws and policies to the married couple that DIFFER from those applied to unmarried people, thus discriminating for/against married and unmarried citizens.

The proper thing to do is to outlaw all government marriages, and to require that ALL laws, regulations, and public polices be made marriage-neutral. Then prohibit governments from granting, denying, tracking, or otherwise acting in a biased way toward marriages.

That way, two or more free and consenting adults can marry as they deem fit, without government involvement.

Marriage is not any of their business anyway.

There are no non-religious reasons to ban gay marriage.

If religions are so concerned about marriage, why do they not campaign against civil marriage ceremonies? Why do they not call for a ban on marriage between people past child bearing age? Why do they not call for a ban on those who are infertile? If marriage is for procreation, why do they not call for a ban on contraceptives? As religions do not want to ban any of these things, all their arguments against gay marriage fall flat and just show what a mob of bigoted hypocrites they are.

The idea of one man buggering another is disgusting to most decent people.

Marriage is for a man and woman ONLY.

Gays can have a civil partnership..but it's not a real marriage.

Health reasons. Women can get throat cancer. (I know because my neighbors are lesbian and one of the girls have throat cancer). Men can rip their booty holes by penetrating to hard. If that does happen they wont be able to sit down regularly and they cant hold in their poop.

I can't think of a single one.

However, it's interesting to see the steaming pile of misconceptions about gays and gay relationships people are posting here.

There are no good reasons.

Fear, homophobia, hate,,, basically the same reasons that once prevented couples of mixed race from getting married.

ONE major reason is for teaching that Gays do have more disease in their blood, and by transmitting blood to a thousand partners the entire world would become diseased, and yet they claim God causes the disease because they are born that way and are in insufferable denial.

they also claim that homophobia is "wrong" when it is the actual only way to preach against them. people are evil if they fight against God and their commandments. but one must remember God also prohibits fornications and adultery, sodomy is only one of the heretical beliefs in modern ages. God never Gave sodomites the right to be married.

Relagating marriage to being solely about fulfilling ones whims.

Well, it's a waste of a male or female. What the individual is saying is, "screw the natural reproductive order, I'm going to do what i want."

It will kill the race. No children. the race of man dies out. Simple as that. Two men or two women produce no children.
