Don't go to Silver RavenWolf because her resources are fictional. I know it's scary coming out of the broom closet (telling your mom). Do it when you feel ready--there's nothing wrong with not telling her. If you really feel like you should, then do it, but don't force anything on her. If she freaks out, don't argue or whine because that'll just make it worse. Maybe she can read with you so she learns as well and won't be uncomfortable. My parents are Wiccan as well, so I have no problems with it! Good luck! If you have any questions, you can feel free to message me!

THE best site for beginning Wiccans, in my opinion:

http://wicca.timerift.net

The best book for beginners: "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham.

Stay far FAR away from anything by Silver Ravenwolf. Her scholarship is shoddy, her ethics are questionable, and she has a persecution streak a mile wide.

EDITED TO ADD: Many experienced Wiccans have serious problems with Witchschool.com, for reasons outlined in the following articles:

As always, I recommend Christopher Penczak's Inner Temple of Witchcraft. His teachings are easy to follow for a beginner and you can buy his Inner Temple CDs to learn many meditational skills.

I also agree that http://www.magickaschool.com is a great place for practicing Witches, neophytes and cowans alike.

I have taken many of their courses and I am not a newbie However, they have a great, in-depth Wicca 101 course for beginners.

EDIT/UPDATE:

Yes, you can sign up at 13 at http://www.magickaschool.com and it's free. And as far as coming out of the broom closet -- many adults haven't done that yet. Tell them when you feel comfortable or when you know enough about Wicca to even know if it's for you or not. Blessings.

You should do both... study an online introductory course, like at www.witchschool.com, and read "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner," and "Earth Power" by Scott Cunningham.

'Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner' by Scott Cunningham

'The Complete Book of Witchcraft' by Raymond Buckland

'Drawing Down the Moon' by Margot Adler

These are some good books to start out with, especially books by Scott Cunningham. His books are geared specifically for Seekers.

Please, please, please stay far away from *anything* by Silver Ravenwolf. She is a know-nothing and a fraud.

Prariecrow and bookworm have given you really excellent suggestions.

As for talking to your mom, I'd say that you be open and honest. If you're just looking it up for curiosity, it's probably meaningless to tell her, but if you really feel a need to serve the gods, then you need to talk to her....I *do* suggest knowing what you're talking about, first, however.
