Question:
Christians, do you realize that Charles Schulz was a rabid atheist who vowed to discredit Christianity through the "Peanuts" comic strip?
2018-12-29 01:10:41 UTC
This is why, in "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", he had Linus sitting in the pumpkin patch, waiting for a Great Pumpkin who would never show up---he was commenting sarcastically on Christians who wait for the return of Jesus. He also wanted to make the point of Sally being angry that she waited with him, to subtly say that Christian men could never please a woman.

In "A Charlie Brown Christmas" he had Charlie Brown, seeking the "true meaning of Christmas", first visiting a psychiatrist, to imply that he was crazy for seeking out God. And as far as Linus and his big speech reciting scripture, he gave that chore to the only babyish character, the one sucking his thumb and dragging around a baby blanket.

Schulz even throws in a gay character, piano-playing Schroeder. It is no mistake that the one woman after him is portrayed as a total shrew, the intensely unlikable Lucy. Schulz, who everyone these days knows was a promiscuous gay man, wanted to discredit heterosexuality as the surest means of destroying the message of Christ. In later episodes he introduced an obvious lesbian couple, Patti and Marcy.

And in the Christmas episode's final scene, where everyone sings as snow begins falling, Schulz is saying it all is a real snow job. Truly there has never been a more devastating assault and slander on Christianity---and we can see the results in the current generation of atheists who were influenced by Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, and Snoopy---agents of Satan.

I read the Peanuts every week in the Sunday paper when I was growing up. I was not influenced by it the way you are indicating. I am and always have been a Christian. In my opinion, you are putting way more into this than what it is. Most people who are reading/watching the Peanuts, or any other cartoon aren t sitting around trying to analyze every little detail but rather just enjoying the cartoon. Lighten up!

Schulz was a devoted Christian; unshell the Peanuts and you'll find the fingerprints of his faith. ... “Many familiar with the Peanuts strip don't think of Charles Schulz as a Christian pioneer,” said Stephen Lind, the author of A Charlie Brown Religion: Exploring the Spiritual Life and Work of Charles M. Your micro-analysis of this cartoon series is wasted on me, I'm afraid, because I've never followed it. I have spotted a few strips in a newspaper now and again, but I couldn't even tell you the lesser characters' names, let alone who said what, or why.

However, I do not doubt that millions of mini-slurs on the good name of Jesus Christ will have slipped in under the radar of most people who only like a sound-bite joke before swiftly moving on to the next facetious tit-bit offered in the media.

It is the same with TV "soap operas" all over the globe. These are used constantly to misrepresent and malign Christianity in general. Characters are invented whom viewers will come to laugh at or despise; characters who go to church, or say they read the Bible or pray etc. They are portrayed as wimps, or unthinking, or emotionally unstable. It's too obvious for words that the script writers have an agenda - to mock and tar with the same brush all Christians. And the gullible public swallows it, hook, line and sinker.

I'm afraid I can only shake my head in dismay at those people who are being informed by the media, which is out to reinforce prejudice against genuine followers of Jesus Christ by caricaturing mock-ups of them.

I have no response other than to say that I read "Peanuts" perhaps twice and honestly saw nothing interesting. The same applies to the "Snoopy" comic strip. Your posts are interesting.

Epic Fail.

If you want to know the real meaning of Christmas, just watch the Charlie Brown Christmas special. He wrote several books on religion. His wife had this to say about him:

"God was very important to him, but in a very deep way, in a very mysterious way."

If you are going to slander a famous man, at least do it in a way that is not so easily falsified.

This question reminds me of an exchange between Hawkeye and Klinger in the tv show MASH. Hawkeye asks Klinger about something and Klinger says “Boy! Is that stupid! Hawkeye responds “Yes, but is it possible?” Klinger says “Of course! That stupid is always possible!”

What a crock.....Agreed he was not a particularly religious man but raised Lutheran and taught Sunday School at a United Methodist Church.......

I really don't think a "rabid atheist" would have done a show "A Charlie Brown Christmas" where one of the lead characters, Linus, would have recited from the bible the King James Version of the Bible Luke 2:8–14 to explain "what Christmas is all about.

Quoting is wife after his death, "God was very important to him, but in a very deep way, in a very mysterious way".

I don't know whether you are telling the truth here or not but, if you are correct you can rest assured that he is now in God's hands and awaiting the Judgement. However, if you have made all this up your turn will come when YOU will be in God's hands awaiting the Judgement.

That's the FUN part about making stuff up.

If you can get people to SEE connections which aren't really there, you can enjoy steering them merrily down the garden path.

BEN Franklin did an experiment with a SOARING kite, discovering a fact about ELECTRICITY, earning the RESPECT of other scientific researchers.

And he ended up with his face on the $100 bill.

ARETHA Franklin soared to fame by her ability to ELECTRIFY audiences with her signature song "RESPECT".

A Christmas decoration made of $100 bills would be "A Wreath of Franklins"

Coincidence?????

Not everything is as it seems. I am glad I told my grandfather's former friend and nemesis the truth , it turns out it was the people he thought and worse the whole time. I forgive him , his son , and grandson , and great grandchildren though , as well as everyone who has gotten involved. I found out they are my cousins and my friends and former bosses , through the punishments to my mother & I are out of greed and tons of impostering ,& lies.

I can sing , I can dance , I can play ,I can compose music. I have potential and they hate me because I do prove them wrong in the arts and I believe in God too. The people of colleges , secret societies, and the wealthy do such horrible , detestable things to families of semetic lineages. Just because you love music does not make you gay or stupid or undeserving of love , friends , accomplishments, and a life to run as your own! You are right there are agendas being pushed. Jesus Christ is coming back soon too. Soon enough to plan on it.

All we have to do now is work out whether you are just a BAD Christian or, more likely, a non-Christian deliberately out to make Christians look intolerant, egotists who love to persecute!

Schultz was a Christian, so your post is a lie. If he actually wanted to discredit Christianity as you falsely claim, he did not succeed. And finally, if anything you said had any truth to it, so what? I follow God and the teachings of Jesus Christ , not Charles Schultz.

Have you not heard of or read the book "The Gospel according to Peanuts"?

This book was written by Robert L Short in 1965 (so during Charles M.Schulz' lifetime). In it he used peanuts cartoons to illustrate the Christian message.

Charles Schulz would surely have objected very strongly if he had really been a rabid atheist!

No, he wasn't. Schulz was a very human man, flawed as we all are. But although he was no saint, he was definitely NOT an atheist, let alone one who had "vowed to discredit Christianity."

If I had my way, Schulz would have been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Not only was he the renowned author of a legendary comic strip, he was also a bonafide World War II veteran. And in his later years, he spent a great deal of his time and his money in helping to improve his community and the lives of others.

You forgot that he was a militant atheist feminist cuck who funded Antifa rallies back in the day. He was also a double agent for Christian-hating China. Not to mention a savagely prolific anti-gun button collector. He had quite the collection of ant-gun lapel pins, oh yes. Don't pretty up Mr. Schulz, oh no. Let all the monsters out of that Snoopy sack. When Snoopy fought that chair and lost, that was a metaphor for America perishing to the flames of liberalism. Schulz DID NOT MISS A TRICK. Thank you for bringing up this very difficult baby that needs to be tossed with the collective America bathwater.
