Christians were doing that in this country (America) only a few hundred years ago, and in Europe only shortly before that. Papua New Guinea is just a little behind the curve.

I thought they had stopped this behavior.

So sad how fear grips people.

Some of my earliest ancestors to this nation were burned alive for being witches in Salem. Bridget and Edward Bishop. Only 1 was a real practicing witch, the rest simply didn't follow the then current Christian faith.

EDIT: Well, excuse me. Jeepers Kreepers. I'm drowning here, and you're describing the water. Dude, I may be wrong about the way they were killed, but they were in FACT killed for being witches.

Learn not to get caught up on the details.

It does not take away from the horrible insainity that took place based solely on FEAR.

Not all people who burned witches were christians. And i realize your question didn't imply that. Not all christians burned, etc. were burned by atheists. I thought this horrendous practice stopped along time ago. Actually, people are very afraid of anything they can't understand especially if it implies dealing with the supernatural. In africa they are still removing female clitoris' with broken glass and sharp pieces of tin. So ignorance and cruelty is still very alive. I feel it everyone's duty who has any way to protest this and cause it to cease should do so.

I myself agree with you. the only thing i can think of at this moment is that (i think) is that the puritans many years ago burned people because of this witch craft thing if you mean something

Oberon: Nobody was burned at Salem. They were hung.

And yes, this sort of thing still happens. Sometimes religion makes people crazy.

For those of you who have trouble believing such a thing could still happen, here's the link to the report:

Did she weigh the same as a duck?

Seriously though, being burned alive for something that's unreal is wrong.

Yes, that is still going around, particularly in Africa.

A man was accused of being a witch in Africa because he was 'stealing other mens' penises'.

Happening a lot in Africa where the inhabitants have been Christianized. Children with nails driven into their heads, etc. The real question is why aren't we hearing much about this? If it was Muslims doing it it would be all over the news.
