Question:
Do you think that Jehovah's Witnesses are wrong?
?

I think that they DO actually follow the bible, but is the bible true? For example: A book was written awhile ago. The book is not true on the subject though. Over time, it became changed threw out the years. Then, someone puts it back to the original way. They may actually follow the book, but the book may be still false anyway. They are just following exactly what it says.

What do you think?

Yes, I do.

I believe that the belief that the world is more corrupt and deserving of ending than ever, when you and I and our kids are less likely than the generations before to starve, less likely to be murdered just because of where we live and less likely to be enslaved than ever, is ungrateful.

I believe that ingratitude encourages people to hate their neighbors instead of love them, and to see the worst in the world instead of the best...and worst of all, I think that the ingratitude inherent in seeing the world as worthy of destruction by God makes people not give a damn about their job of making it a better place- a job we all have if we want to love here.

Well if I get you right, you're saying ... even if the Bible is really old, and historically accurate, on matters of spirituality it could still be wrong, even though the scribes copied it 'religiously'.

Well that was up for debate for some time -- the oldest known copies of the NT were from something like 500 AD. Then the Dead Sea Scrolls were rediscovered, manuscripts from the first century. So the debate whether we have the original version, or weather it was edited and changed over time is settled.

But, you're bringing up the Jehovah's Witnesses, so I wonder if your question is about The Bible, or the Book of Mormon ... well in the case of The Bible, check Matthew 7:7 - Ask and you shall receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.

So if you have questions, pray about them.

About the Book of Mormon - you may want to look at this page and decide for yourself.

Its first parts were written some 3,500 years ago.

It was completed in 98 C.E.

Though some 40 men were its writers over a period of 1,600 years,

the Bible is a harmonious body of writings. That, despite the fact that most of them lived at different times & never met one another. This is only possible because its real Author is God.

The Bible is the most widely circulated and translated book in all history. Each year, some 60 million copies of the entire Bible or portions of it are distributed. The complete Bible or parts of it have been translated into more than 2,300 languages and dialects. Over 90 percent of the human family have access to the Bible, or at least part of it, in their native language. This book has transcended national boundaries, racial divisions, and ethnic barriers. All of that is despite the fact that apostate-Christianity long hid it from the common man, and violently silenced many of those who tried to share what it truly says.

Add to that, that it is also:

- scientifically accurate---way ahead of the scientific age;

- historically accurate;

- all of its prophecies have come true exactly when & how prophesied;

- has the BEST advice EVER!

Considering ALL of that, does it really seem plausible that it is NOT from our Creator, who obviously has the power & wisdom to have it kept safe, &, restored . . . ?

Yes . . .the Bible IS *God's Word*, and it DOES have everything in it that a Christian needs to know.

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I do not believe that we are perfect, but I do believe that we are much closer at teaching & following the Bible's teachings, principles, & commands . . . than any other religion.

I had a man make a very interesting statement to me similar to this. He said to take a well known person from history. Einstein for example. None of us know him, never met him. All we have is the literature and laws that he left behind. There is some proof that he existed but people can still doubt that he ever was because there's always that possibility that his information about science and such was falsified. We just have faith that what we know about him is information that we can rely on.

Same with God. None of us have met him and all we have is the bible that he has left behind and some proof that what is in the bible is true. Some people completely doubt it but the rest of us have faith that it's something we can rely on.

As a Jehovah's Witness we have that deep faith that the bible is true because of 1) The secular proof of the events that take place in the bible and 2) The effects of following the bible.

There is no way that following the bible hurts us. For example the guidance about abstaining from sex until marriage and refraining from getting drunk. These two things don't harm us they're just less attractive to many because they're "boring". But as a whole, disobeying these two things has brought upon many people depression, anxiety, unwanted pregnancies, stds including HIV and aids, loss of jobs and homes, even loss of life in many instances.

Jeremiah 10:23 says it doesn't belong to us to direct our own steps because everytime we do, instead of following Jehovah, there are terrible consequences to follow.

(Ephesians 4:5, 6) one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all [persons], who is over all and through all and in all.

(1 John 5:19) We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one.

(James 4:4) Adulteresses, do YOU not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11) What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10 nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom. 11 And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.

(Acts 24:15) and I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

Jehovah's Witnesses belief is based on the Bible not on false stories, pagan festivals or the traditions of men(2 Timothy 4:3, 4) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories.

We do what the scriptures say(2 Timothy 4:2) preach the word, be at it urgently in favorable season, in troublesome season, reprove, reprimand, exhort, with all long-suffering and [art of] teaching.(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.(Daniel 2:44) “And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite;

We teach what the Bible teaches not what man teaches and more and more are finding this to be true and are leaving false religion as Rev 18:4 advises them too.

There is a separating work and the sheep(mild tempered teachable) or being placed by Jesus on his right and those that are blinded by Satan Jesus puts to his left.(2 Corinthians 4:4)

2 Tim 3:1-3 and Gal 5:19-22 says what type of people will not inherit God's Kingdom and today's world is filled with them but there is a great crowed(multitude) that are putting on a new personality that will survive into God's Kingdom(Rev 7:9,14). All the others will be destroyed and cease to exist as there is "NO BURNING HELL!", Rev 20:14 says death and hell die a second death and are cast into the symbolic lake of fire, how does death die twice and how do you torture death and hell a place and a thing that happens to the living?

Let's see - Jehovah's witnesses do not smoke or take drugs. The do not get drunk. They do not have sex outside of marriage. They treat everyone with love and kindness. They refuse to become violent or go to war. They obey the law and pay their taxes. They take good care of their children and do not let them run wild. They treat their marriage partner with love and respect.

If everyone in the world was one of Jehovah's witnesses - I don't know - What do you think?

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness. If I agreed with their religion like I did my own, I would become a Jehovah's Witness.

However, I have no problem with Jehovah's Witnesses; whenever they knock on my door, I kindly explain to them that I'm a Catholic and have no intent to convert, and then they say "Have a good day," and leave.

They do not follow the bible. JW's teach that Jesus is "a" God, not God made flesh.

The teach that the 144,000, that the bible says are Jews, are actually the only JW's who will enter heaven.

They are a cult....stay very far away from them.

The Bible was originally written in ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. So most people who desire to read it must rely on a translation.

Today, the Bible is the world’s most widely translated book—parts of it being available in over 2,400 languages. Some languages have not just one translation but scores of them. If you have a choice in your language, you surely want to use the very best translation you can find.

To make an informed choice, you need to know the answers to the following questions: What different types of translations are available? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each type of translation? And why should you be cautious when reading some translations of the Bible?

Bible translations cover a broad spectrum of styles, but they fall into three basic categories. Interlinear translations are at one end of the spectrum. These translations contain the original-language text along with a word-for-word rendering into the target language.

Paraphrase translations fall at the other end of the spectrum. Translators of these versions freely restate the message of the Bible as they understand it in a way that they feel will appeal to their audience.

A third category embraces translations that endeavor to strike a balance between these two extremes. These versions of the Bible strive to convey the meaning and flavor of the original-language expressions while also making the text easy to read.

A strictly word-for-word translation is often not the best possible way to capture the meaning of each Bible verse. Why not? There are a number of reasons. Here are two:

1. No two languages are exactly alike in grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure. Professor of Hebrew S. R. Driver says that languages “differ not only in grammar and roots, but also . . . in the manner in which ideas are built up into a sentence.” People who speak different languages think differently. “Consequently,” continues Professor Driver, “the forms taken by the sentence in different languages are not the same.”

Since no language exactly mirrors the vocabulary and grammar of Biblical Hebrew and Greek, a word-for-word translation of the Bible would be unclear or might even convey the wrong meaning. Consider the following examples.

In his letter to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul used an expression that is literally translated “in the (dice) cube of the men.” (Ephesians 4:14, The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures)* This expression refers to the practice of cheating others when using dice. In most languages, however, a literal rendering of this allusion makes little sense. Translating this expression as “the trickery of men” is a clearer way to convey the meaning.

When writing to the Romans, Paul used a Greek expression that literally means “to the spirit boiling.” (Romans 12:11, Kingdom Interlinear) Does this wording make sense in your language? The expression actually means to be “aglow with the spirit.”

During one of his most famous speeches, Jesus used an expression that is often translated: “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” (Matthew 5:3) But a literal rendering of this expression is obscure in many languages. In some cases, a strictly literal translation even implies that “the poor in spirit” are mentally unbalanced or lacking in vitality and determination. However, Jesus was here teaching people that their happiness depended, not on satisfying their physical needs, but on recognizing their need for God’s guidance. (Luke 6:20) So such renderings as “those conscious of their spiritual need” or “those who know their need for God” convey more accurately the meaning of this expression.—Matthew 5:3; The New Testament in Modern English.

2. The meaning of a word or an expression may change depending on the context in which it is used. For instance, the Hebrew expression that normally refers to the human hand may have a wide variety of meanings. Depending on the context, this word may, for example, be rendered “control,” “openhandedness,” or “power.” (2 Samuel 8:3; 1 Kings 10:13; Proverbs 18:21) In fact, this particular word is translated in over 40 different ways in the English edition of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.

Because the context can affect the way a word is translated, the New World Translation uses nearly 16,000 English expressions to translate some 5,500 Biblical Greek terms, and it uses over 27,000 English expressions to translate about 8,500 Hebrew terms.# Why this variety in the way words are translated? The translation committee judged that to render the best sense of these words according to the context was more important than to produce a strictly literal translation. Even so, the New World Translation is as consistent as possible in rendering Hebrew and Greek words into the target language.

The bible they follow was altered to fit their beliefs. Their bible is not used by any of the other denominations: Catholics and Protestants agree on this much if little else.
