Question:
Why is there no mention of Jesus' brothers and sisters?

Mary & Joseph MUST have had more children, if we assume that she was indeed a virgin when Jesus was conceived as the Bible says, then they still surely would have had sex afterwards (unless we are to believe that neither had sex in their whole lives even though they were married) & given the fact that there was no contraception, Mary must have fallen pregnant multiple times.

Why is there no literature detailing Jesus' family, or even from his family themselves - surely those who lived with him as he grew into the 30-ish year old man that appears later would have known him best & seen first hand his kindness/miracle working/wisdom etc. He was a very famous man, they must have had some comments, or people must have sought them out, especially those writing The Four Gospels?

They are mentioned several times, and the author of the Letter of James was an elder of the Jerusalem Church and half brother of Jesus. The author of the Letter of Jude was also a half brother of Jesus.

They did not believe in Him at first, but later believed.........

"After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him. But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near, Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” For even his own brothers did not believe in him.

Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil. You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.” After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.

However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret."

John 7:1-10

"Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, "He is out of his mind".......And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, "Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you." And he answered them, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother."

Because, contrary to your opinion, the Early Church did not exactly 'roll out the red carpet' for the brothers and sisters of the Lord Jesus. They did not make a dynasty of them. They became believers, that's all, and they merged their identities into that of their other brothers and sisters.

You are also wrong about James. If you read in the Acts, James the brother of John was beheaded (Acts 12:2) and after that James, the Lord's brother became prominent among the believers (see 12:17, 15:13 and 21:18). James was known as James Justus, and Joseph as Joseph Justus, to distinguish them as being the Lord's brothers according to the flesh, that I know, so there must be some documents about them. James the Just, the next brother of the Lord, is mentioned in the contemporary chronicler Hegesippus. Joseph, called Justus in Acts 1:23 was probably the Lord's second brother.

Also, the brothers and sisters of the Lord (James, Joses, Simon and Judas + sisters - Matt.13:55) were of his family according to the flesh, for they came with the mother Mary. That is why Jesus talked about his spiritual 'mother, and brothers and sisters' because those of the spirit were the believers who were with him and following him, but the ones who were his relatives according to the flesh were those who were not following him but were seeking him outside.

I think people were too busy doing important things to mention people who were not prestigious.

Even the apostles had little about them, the gospels are their own writings and letters sent by them, not actually literature written "ABOUT" them.

You gotta study the history as to what people back then would write about

and the people they would write about.

I doubt there were many people who could write back then and so those who did write, I don't think they would waste their time writing about certain stuff when they could be doing other stuff.

Just because we got plenty of free time to write on the net today, doesn't mean they had the same luxury back then.

Man, just going to a different city would usually consume days.

I doub't they had ballpoint pens back then that could be used in writing when on a moving shaking carriage.

Yes, they didn't have asphalt highways back then so the ride would most likely be shaky.

When they arrived, if you haven't noticed in the NT, they were very busy people doing lots of noble things, feeding the hungry, teaching and so on.

And the only writing they had done were actually the same thing, teaching other people to live well through Christ.

They didn't have time to write fb profiles for their posse.

strong question and one formally investigated by technique of scripture scholars of the Catholic and Lutheran Church alongside with help from the Orthodox and different Protestant communities in the Catholic-Lutheran talk in course of reunion. They printed a e book on the precedence talked about as "Mary in the recent testomony." there have been 2 shocks from the fee, the first became that the theologians anticipated a impressive type of conflict of words between by using changes in church homes. they got here across none. the second one became that it became irrational for Mary to be a source of branch. There are some issues and all of them could do with studying the scriptures in English. Neither Hebrew nor Greek have a be conscious for cousin, step brother, 1/2 brother or sister for that count number. Any similar era friend is a brother or sister in Greek and Hebrew. extra, some passages make no experience in any respect in the journey that they were Mary's organic and organic little ones. the perfect end of the fee is that scripture is silent on whose little ones, suggested as brothers and sisters, they're. we can't understand. We do keep in mind that different early Christian files describe them in a way such that they could no longer be organic and organic little ones of Mary, yet we can also't be sure the accuracy of those files. besides the indisputable fact that in reality, we can't bypass back and ask the authors of scripture in the journey that they were precise or no longer both. all of us keep in mind that very early files outdoors scripture describe Jesus as what we ought to now call an in undemanding words baby. distinctive such files exist, besides the indisputable fact that the precedence did not arise until eventually the Reformation and 1500 years later is too overdue to bypass back and ask human beings precisely what they meant.

Having read some of your additional comments, you are well aware that Jesus had siblings that were mentioned in the bible. However what you really want to know is why we don't get much more info about them than we do. The reason is because the bible was not written to be a precise history book. It was written to show us why we are here and how to live. God gave us the bible to tell the story of mankind and how we fell from His grace and how we were restored There were key characters in the story that God wanted us to focus on and what they said and did.

Not necessarily Joseph may have been older than Mary and was a widower with children those children would have by that stage or by early in Christs life grown up and moved away. Or simply Mary had no more kids it happens all the time and not always from contraceptives either. There is no proof either way that there were or weren't any other children. We do know that Mary remained with Christ most of his life and if his father Joseph had passed it would have been his duty as son either only or eldest to look after his mother unless there were younger sons. If there were other children she would not have traveled with her son one of her younger sons would have taken the responsibility of her mother as she would have been an asset in the family and helped with the children and Grand children of her other children. There is no way she would have wondered around and left the rest. And hence the reason I personally think she didn't have any more children.

The Bible says that Jesus was her FIRSTBORN and Joseph knew her not (intimately) TILL she gave birth to Jesus

The Bible is very specific in saying that Mary, the mother of Jesus, did have other children after Jesus was born. The Bible says that Jesus was her FIRSTBORN and Joseph did not know her intimately UNTIL she gave birth to Jesus. The Bible does not say that she remained a virgin, nor does the Bible say that Jesus was her only child. This teaching that suggests that Mary remained a virgin is anti-biblical. Mary did not remain a virgin. This is for certain.

For a woman to remain a virgin while being married to her husband would be considered a sin by God's standards. God created marriage. The two become one flesh and the bed is undefiled in marriage. Mary and Joseph were married in every sense of the word. Joseph took Mary to be his wife, not a roommate. Had she remained a virgin her entire married life, this would have been very dysfunctional. It would have displeased her husband and the Lord.

The Bible says that Jesus was her FIRSTBORN and Joseph knew her not (intimately) TILL she gave birth to Jesus. The Bible specifically says that Jesus had brothers and even mentions their names. Jesus had sisters too. Scriptural references are below:

Mathew 1:25: And [Joseph] knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called His name JESUS.

Mathew 12:46-47: While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

Mathew 13:55-56 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

Mark 3:31-32: There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.

Mark 6:3: Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Luke 2:7: And she brought forth her FIRSTBORN son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Luke 8:20-21 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

John:7:3: His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest

There is plenty of mentioning of Jesus' brothers and sisters, as even a casual reading of the bible will show.

I don't know about brothers or sister but the Bible definately mentioned Jesus had a cousin named Dudley Dursley. If you remember Jesus lived with his Aunt and Uncle Vernon and Petunia Dursley for many years after Lord Voldemort killed Jesus' parents when he was a baby. His Uncle Vernon did not permit Jesus to practice magic in the house, and even tried to prevent Jesus from attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Vernon family were the first true persecutors of Jesus, unless you count Lord Volermort killing Jesus' parents.

Edit

Oops, I realized I was talking about Harry Potter and not Jesus. I am always getting those two confused

the names mentioned in bible are james judas joses simon salome and mary. however as per the complete bible page 315:it is unclear whether this later tradition gave rise to the view of mary remaining virgin or vice versa. however it is important to note that the most authentic account of tne birth and information of jesus is given in holy quran where a complete chapter surah Al IMRAN is dedicated to the subject

There's no mention of them, nor is there commentary from them. Kind of suspicious.

Edit: Ok, apparently I need to go over the bible again. I'm forgetting stuff.
