Question:
Why do people confuse spirituality with religion?

The two have nothing in common.

Spirituality means being focussed on our soul/spirit and not on the physical/material side of things. It means not identifying with this temporary human condition - our soul/spirit is eternal and has lived many lives in all sorts of different situations.

Spirituality means seeing the Universal Spirit in everyone and everything, knowing that All Is One - and thus treating everyone (including yourself) and everything with love, compassion, kindness, goodness, justice, unity, brotherhood, equality, respect, integrity, honesty, patience, tolerance, courage, humility, etc

So what does this spirituality have to do with religion? Organized religions actually do the opposite by creating an "us vs. them" mentality.

I believe that there was always someone seperate from other because of God choosing them to represent him. There was once Noah and his 7 family members who were pleasing to God so they obeyed and was saved. The others, as the account says, was killed by the flood.

Then there was Moses and the Nation of Isarel. They were to be seperate from the nations around them who served false gods.

Then there was Rahab and all those in her home who followed the direction to stay in doors while the city of Jericho was being destroyed because the wickedness in it.

annnnd thhheeen thhherree waaas Jesus and his disciples. They were preaching and teaching the truth and many of the Jews, romans, etc refused.

So you supposed that disorganised religion would bring unity. That sounds similar to what some scientists believe - a big explasion somehow formed into an organized and symetricle world. Now that's messed up. :)

You are right, the two has nothing to do with each other.

In the since of religion, people apply that naturally to the Holy Spirit or inner spirit.

That has everything to do with religion.

Similarities often lump things together. Like all australians are lumped in with all australians. Think about it.

More the minds way of organizing things, it lumps things together.

If you have a spirit, you must acknowledge there is a God. If there is a God, you must understand it is your responsibility to learn about Him. Religion teaches about God. People who claim to be "spiritual" but not religious are smoking some weird stuff.

by "universal spirit" you mean "that thing that doesn't really exist"? yeah, that's quite a distinction with what most religions are claiming
