Question:
Is the Bible the most scientifically accurate book ever written?
2010-04-22 20:15:58 UTC
Personally, I believe that the Bible is the most scientifically accurate book written. Ever.

With the exception of a few ancient Greeks, throughout human history most of the world believed the world was a flat square. However, the Bible, which was way ahead of its time, proves to be accurate on this subject, saying that the earth is, in fact, a sphere:

Isaiah 40:22: It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.

Need I go any further in proving that the Bible is the most scientifically accurate book ever written?

Hanna, what do you think is at the bottom part of a tent? Is it a sphere? Or is it a flat object, such as a circle?

The word in ancient Hebrew for circle in the above-quoted passage is "chuwg;" it's used for the English words "circle" or "circuit." Do you not see the two dimensional nature that is inherent to the definition?

The word "chuwg" never means "sphere." I challenge you to find just one lexicon of ancient Hebrew saying otherwise. It's meaning is very specific: a circuit, a line going around until it meets itself, which is what the word means.

There is absolutely nothing else whatsoever in the context of the above-quoted passage that would make it a sphere. Nothing.

The author of the very same book, Isaiah, uses the word "ball" in another verse. Why did he not use "ball" or "sphere" to describe the earth, instead using the word "circle"?

Isaiah 22:18: He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord's house.

The Bible says circle. It means circle. A circle is round and flat.

dear the Quran is the most scientifically accurate book ever reveled i did not say written because prophet mohammad peace be up on him was illiterate go to abook called Qur'an & Science by morese bokay the french scientce or read the quran

Qur'an & Science

Can science and religion ever be compatible and compliment each other, or are they always going to disagree and people will just have to choose one or the other?

If you feel this way then maybe that's just your religion, not all religions are this way, particularly if it's the Truth. What each contributes to our understanding of life should be thought as the following:

Science:

Here are some evidence, let's see what conclusions we can draw from them.

Religion:

Here are some conclusions, now what evidence can we find to support them?

To a logical and rational person it can be proven that the Qur’an and therefore Islam speak of the Truth. Modern science has discovered just recently what the Qur’an had revealed more than 1400 years ago. This is only one much evidence that the Qur’an is the total, eternal and non-corrupted word of the Creator, Allah ta’ala. While there are many errors and contradictions in the Bible with science, none can be found in the holy scriptures of Islam whatsoever, which were revealed as I mentioned well before the discoveries were made by the scientists. Therefore, modern science supports Islam of its beliefs which are unlikely to have been synthesized by Man so accurately, so long ago.

Words: Meaning: Mentioned in Quran:

Al-Dunya This World 115

Al-Akhira The Hereafter 115

Al-Mala'ikah Angles 88

Al-Shayateen Satan 88

Al-Hayat Life 145

Al-Maout Death 145

Al-Rajul Man 24

Al-Mar'ha Women 24

Al-Shahr Month 12

Al-Yahom Day 365

Al-bahar Sea 32

Al-bar Land 13

If we add up the total number of times the words ‘sea’ and 'land' are mentioned, we get 45. Now if we do a simple calculation:

32/45 X 100 % = 71.11111111 %

13/45 X 100 % = 28.88888888 %

Above is what we know today, the percentages of Water (Sea) and Land on Earth, yet another miracle in the Quran.

The Miracles of the Qur’an will never end. There will never be a time where mankind can fully take in the knowledge that is in this Holy book. It is a miracle to all mankind, the word of God. There is no value that one can set to the words of the Creator. It is a treasure of which guides those that want to succeed in this life and the hereafter.

The Bible does not say the Earth is a sphere. At any rate a Greek scientist by the name of Eratosthenes who was a scientists at the Library of Alexandria in Egypt figured out that the earth was a sphere, not a circle. He even figured out it's size to within 2-5%. That was in the 3rd century B.C.E. before either the Bible or the Koran.

There is a movie you should watch if you're not afraid to. It is called "Agora" and it is about the first clash between religion and science.

The Bible is a book of stories and if it was a complete document it would be at least 50 feet or longer. It is not what one would call lawyer proof but as each day progresses we are shown proof for those the require proof that things in the New Testament really did happen. Several weeks ago l saw where the Catholic church shown a part of the cross that was used on Jesus, several long thorns that were part of his crown and the cross bar that ws used on Peter. they were not scientifically proved nor do l think any church would allow people to test it for carbon dating. If you require proof for every thing before you except it as true then that is your problem not mine.

I wouldn't characterize it as the most scientifically accurate book ever written. I don't think that is it's purpose. Genesis is clear about God being the creator of the universe and the world and everything in it. To me the most important and beautiful thing about that is that God is HUGE, powerful, creative, caring, a provider and good - not the scientific depth of it.

Science relies on the tools of observation. We have vastly greater resources to observe the world today, than what was available when the OT was written. That doesn't make the OT inaccurate in my view. It just seems to me that it was written with a different purpose in mind other than science (thank goodness).

wow i'm sure you have never read the bible.

i found many scientific errors and contradictions when reading the bible.

the koran contains NO SINGLE error nor contradiction.

ITS THE TRUE WORD OF GOD. NOT EVEN A SINGLE WORD HAS CHANGED IN THE KORAN SINCE IT WAS REVEALED BY PROPHET MOHAMMAD BY GOD THROUGH ANGEL GABRIEL.

Really? Because in Sura 53:1-18 and 81:15-29 Muhammad was meant to be able to see allah, however, Suras 6:102-103, 42:51 clearly contradict this.

Your book is no better than theirs, stop being so delusional.

Really halahen? Because Sura 18:86 says this

Till, when he [the traveller Zul-qarnain] reached

the setting-place of the sun,

he found it going down into a muddy spring, ...

And yet science clearly contradicts this as it does not set into a muddy spring, rather, the earth rotates. Nice work explaining the sun set Islam.

Yep, and the following verses only *cough* "prove" the bible to be even more scientifically and logically accurate:

-"God creates light and separates light from darkness, and day from night, on the first day. Yet he didn't make the light producing objects (the sun and the stars) until the fourth day (1:14-19)." And how could there be "the evening and the morning" on the first day if there was no sun to mark them?

-God makes two lights: "the greater light [the sun] to rule the day, and the lesser light [the moon] to rule the night." But the moon is not a light, but only reflects light from the sun. And why, if God made the moon to "rule the night", does it spend half of its time moving through the daytime sky?

ok the earth is a sphere not a circle and if it were a competition of being accurate i don't think i can think of a scientific book less accurate than the bible as long as it wasn't written by a creationist.

@ don't let them fool ya: Your quran speaks of a flat earth, don't have a narcissist view that your cult is superior.

Q. 2:22. WHO made the earth a bed for you, and the heaven a roof, and caused water to come down from the clouds and therewith brought forth fruits for your sustenance; so do not set up equals to ALLAH, while you know. Sher Ali

Commentary: .. who has made the earth AS FLAT and comfortable as a bed and placed upon it mountains standing firm... (Tafsir Ibn Kathir (Part 1), Surah Al-Fatihah Surah Al-Baqarah, ayat 1 to 141, abridged by Sheikh Muhammad Nasib Ar-Rafa’i [Al-Firdous Ltd., London, 1998 second edition], pp. 79-80)

The online version reads: ... He made the earth a resting place for them, just like the bed, STABLE with the firm mountains ... meaning, ‘a ceiling’ ...

Q. 13:3. And He it is who hath outstretched the earth, and placed on it the firm mountains, and rivers: and of every fruit He hath placed on it two kinds: He causeth the night to enshroud the day. Verily in this are signs for those who reflect.

Commentary: Allah mentions His perfect ability and infinite authority, since it is He Who has raised the heavens without pillars by His permission and order. He, by His leave, order and power, has elevated the heavens high above the earth, distant and far away from reach. The heaven nearest to the present world encompasses the earth from all directions, and is also high above it from every direction. The distance between the first heaven and the earth is five hundred years from every direction, and its thickness is also five hundred years. The second heaven surrounds the first heaven from every direction, encompassing everything that the latter carries, with a thickness also of five hundred years and a distance between them of five hundred years. The same is also true about the third, the fourth, the fifth, the sixth and the seventh heavens...

<... without any pillars that you can see.> meaning, ‘there are pillars, but you cannot see them,’ according to Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, Al-Hasan, Qatadah, and several other scholars. Iyas bin Mu`awiyah said, "The heaven is like a dome over the earth," meaning, without pillars...

Q. 15:19 And the earth have WE spread out, and set therein firm mountains and cause every thing to grow therein in proper proportion. Sher Ali

We are told in the Tafsir al-Jalalayn that: And the earth We have stretched it out, SPREAD IT FLAT, and cast therein firm mountains, lest it should sway beneath its inhabitants, and caused to grow therein every kind of balanced thing, [every kind of thing] known and determined.

Q. 16:15 And He has set up on the earth mountains standing firm, lest IT [the earth] should shake with you; and rivers and roads; that ye may guide yourselves; Y. Ali

Commentary: ... Then Allah mentions the earth and how He placed in it mountains standing firm, which make it stable and keep it from shaking in such a manner that the creatures dwelling on it would not be able to live. Hence Allah says ...

(79: 32).

Q. 20:53. [since he is the One] Who has laid out the earth as a carpet for you and has traced highways on it for you, and sent down water from the sky, We have brought forth every sort of plant with it, of various types.

Q. 22:65. Do you not see that Allah has made subservient to you whatsoever is in the earth and the ships running in the sea by His command? And He withholds the heaven FROM FALLING ON THE EARTH except with His permission; most surely Allah is Compassionate, Merciful to men. Shakir

Commentary: If He willed, He could give the sky permission to fall on the earth, and whoever is in it would be killed, but by His kindness, mercy and power, He withholds the heaven from falling on the earth, except by His leave ..

Note: Certainly it is God, the Creator who put everything in place to function well. And He is also the sustainer who upholds the continuing existence of the world. However, the above formulation presupposes that the sky above us is something heavy and hard which could cause serious damage, even kill people, if it were to fall down. That certainly is scientific nonsense! Thus, your allah is not the real creator.

So far it's muslims who have been fooling many but I won't let you fool me.
