I have 34 different translation. My dad has like 60+ different translations. I often compare to see what people have to say on here. How many different translations do you have?

I have these:
New World translation,
Living Bible
King James
Revised Standard
Original greek and hebrew Diaglott
Modern language Bible
It's good to compare scriptures. Sometimes the meanings are brought out better in others and can help you understand it better. Some have footnotes that help you see the root of the words and give you references to other scriptures too which are of even greater help.

I have a Scofield KJV, a Thompson Chain Reference KJV, two New American Standard versions, an NIV Study Bible; with a J.B. Phillips New Testament, a combined Greek-literal interlinear with New Revised Standard on the margins (hey, this one was a gift), plus a 4-column parallel with KJV, NASB, NIV, and Amplified versions in parallel columns. Of course I can't use all of these at the same time, but I use the New American Standard the most. And I do this for the same reasons you do--to get the most complete take on what the New Testament writers are saying.

I count 6, plus two concordances, plus of course many more translations on biblegateway.com.
Additionally, I have a number of extra-biblical writings such as the Apostolic Fathers, the Pseudepigrapha, Gnostic and Hermetic writings, etc.
I love it! When I retire it would be fun to go back to school to learn to read all of these in their original languages. That's a long way off, though.

Five or six. The KJV reads the best, but all are flawed, as all translations must be. I found myself thinking "But you can't *say* that in Hebrew!"
So I shelved them all and now read only the Hebrew. I use the Artscroll edition, with an occasional assist from the translation in it, which is remarkably accurate, as much as any translation can be.

We have about 6 in English (KJV, NKJV, RSV, NIV, ASB, LB) in our house. We also have a German translation and a Greek translation. I don't read the German or Greek translations, obviously!

Since I only fluently speak English, I have only the KJV of The Holy Bible. I have read from the NKJV and the NIV version of the Holy Bible, and they do not appeal to me. So much of the beauty of the language & the heart of the KJV is lost in its watered down, modern fad-speak versions.

I only keep two - the trusty King James, and the one I use the most NIV Study Version.
2008-01-16 17:16:23 UTC
Computer versions (that are actually worth using) : 7
NASB
ASV
RSV
NRSV
NJB
KJV
NKJV
CEV
Print versions: 5? (I'm not sure - I have many, and they're not all in one place).
TNIV
NWT
Oxford KJV (not the 1769 revision)
Rotherham
NJB
Others I have referenced online I do not count.

Well then perhaps you've noticed there is little in common with them all? I've studied religion formally and that particular reality is what turned me off to Xianity. Good luck JW!
