You will burn in hell ?

I just read a question and someone answered you will burn in hell.
I do not believe in hell being a place of eternal torment .
Let's assume I am wrong .
1 My question is if God is love why do people think threats of burning would change a persons ways ?
(I do not respond to threats well.)
2 Would it not be better to point out the good things god offers ?

I agree with you. If someone truly followed the xtian teachings they would show you through actions and deeds how one should live, not by threats. However, many of the fundy xtians like to preach that fire and brimstone rubbish. To the ignorant and uneducated, threats of violence and coercion are the tools of conversion. The enlightened use compassion.

Hell is eternal separation from God. But to answer you're question, threats DO work with some people. For others, LOVE is a better attractant to God. Personally I think threats work better on the spiritually immature. Someone who has walked with God a long time finds that they love Him and WANT to do what is right in His eyes. No threats needed.

The Bible doesn't teach Hell at all.



Many religions teach it but here is what is known about it:



Most of Christendom believe the wicked are punished after death in hell: "According to the traditional Christian belief, hell is a place of unending anguish and pain." (The World Book Encyclopedia, 1987 edition)



What the Bible teaches is this:



The wages of sin is death, not life in torment. (Romans 6:23) The dead rest unconscious in hell(Hadies, Sheol), awaiting a resurrection. (Psalm 89:48; John 5:28 & 29; 11:24. Revelation 20:13 & 14)



As God is love, it would be against Him to have people, who he loves and wants every person to repent, burn forever. He is not vindictive, that's Satan.

1.) Actually, the persistent threats by Christians that non-believers will suffer an eternity of torment burning in Hell is one of the major reasons I must remain an atheist. Such blatant extortion is extremely unethical and would surely be considered a violent felony, if it were ever possible to prove that Hell actually exists. Extortion is already a crime. Christians persistently threatening people with eternal torture in order to compel them to believe is psychological extortion on a massive scale and ought to be illegal in a modern civilization.



2.) From my perspective, there is nothing good that comes from an irrational belief in supernatural deities. Allowing yourself to believe that your subjective (perceptual) experience is real (solipsism) serves only to create confusion and makes discovering the true nature of objective (physical) reality nearly impossible. Belief is merely the ILLUSION of truth, not to be confused with the real thing.

God IS love, and He DID NOT create a place where those who disobey would be flame-broiled forever. He wants us to serve him out of our own want, so threatening us with eternal torment is against his methods.



The idea of a burning hell in 'Christianity' does not trace back to the beginning (i.e. the Congregation established by Jesus), but is a little more recent.

It's offensive to hear someone say you are going to burn in Hell. I've been a Christian most of my life and have never, and will never, try to get someone to accept Christ by threats. God wants EVERYBODY to go to Heaven. He even says that he loves everybody. "God makes the sun to shine on the righteous and the unrighteous." The bible goes on to say that judgement is to be left to God. As I understand "evangelism," we are to try to explain our beliefs in an unoffensive way, and then let God do the rest. After a person has been told the way to salvation then they have a choice. God will either convict them to believe, or not, over time. Threatening people with hell is "evangelism by mugging." It's like somebody pulling a gun on you, and telling you to believe or they're going to shoot you. I hope people aren't becoming Christians because they want "fire insurance."

One thing a lot of Christians don't think about is the fact that damning people to hell does not attract people to God at all. God is love but he does have limitations. His limitation is you must believe in him or yes you will spend eternity in hell. However, you are correct...Christians should be telling people how awesome God is rather than telling everyone they are going to burn in hell forever. That is God's judgment not theirs.

Those that say "Burn In Hell" don't just alienate people -- they're flat out WRONG.



There IS NO HELL. For now, death is death.



When Jesus comes back and people still chose not to follow him, that's when they'll be eternally separated from God. That will truly be Hell.

Whenever I see this type of post by holier than thou evangelists I can almost se a contorted and venomous face behind it too.

God is indeed love and created us from love to love Him also, so whats hard about this?

Hell is that place created for the devil and the fallen angels who rebellied against the kingdom of love by pride and with one voice declared``W e will not serve``and we can then state logically that Hell is devoid of love and is filled with hatred and anger, who would want to go there?

The secret isn`t that secret, love God and love your nieghbor and Hell will never be your final destination, but it is our choice just as it was for the devil, live forever in that place of eternal love or that place of eternal hatred.

The real nature of hell is lost in translation. Fire and Brimstone was a common method of purifying back in the day (coins in particular). And the "ever and ever" in the bible is actually a set amount of time.

So...

People are in hell to be cleansed of their sin for a set period of time, and go to heaven. Then, in the end of days, ALL people are brought together to rejoice.
