Question:
Christians: Does women still have one less rib than men?
2008-02-13 01:20:27 UTC
"And God fashioned a woman out of one of Adam's ribs."
Because of this story was commonly believed (and sometimes it is still said today) that males have one less rib than females.
In 1543, Vesalius showed in that the number of ribs was the same in both males and females, and therefore the bible could not be right on that account. This released a storm of controversy.

Today another storm of controversy has arosen over the same book (the bible). But now it´s about evolution. Will it take the Christians another 500 years to realise that the concept of evolution is correct? (Some still believe that women have one less rib than men)

God took one rib from JUST Adam to create Eve. Their children...both male and female (and all future generations)...would have all their ribs.

Everyone, Male and female have the same number of ribs. But It is scientifically proven that your lower rib is the only bone in the human body that can grow back!

Um, God only took one rib from ADAM to make Eve. He did not do it to every single man since. Their children, both male and female would have the same number of ribs, as do the rest of us. Also you have it backwards, it would be that men have one less rib than women, which they don't. Also, don't be so rude to Christians who don't believe in evolution.

First off, your question is phrased backwards. It was adam that had one less rib than eve, as none were taken from her.

Secondly, why would a modern man have less ribs than a modern woman? God did not make anything out of my ribs. If I cut my hand off or have my leg amputated, will my children be born with no hand or leg? Absurd. That's God's genetics at its best.

And how does ANYONE know how many ribs Adam had to begin with? If anything, men would have one fewer rib. However, again, we don't know how many ribs Adam had to begin with.

And for the record, I don't think that Eve was literally formed from Adam's rib. I think she was formed using Adam's DNA. And strands of DNA are rib-like in appearance.

I believe you are referring to the "Funny Bone" which is rarely seen in women, unless they have been on a strict diet purely eating meat.

Apparently, Sheik Rattle En Roll loves a good rib tickler, except when it all goes ti*s up, which is quite frequent, so I am led to believe.

first it would mean women have one more ribe

but that was from adam not the children born to eve. and a concept is not fact if you know God you know the bible is true men want to be gods but are not.

the part that men have and women do not have is not a rib.

maybe God created men out of that part that the women had originally and lost during the creation of men? does that explain the way women search for that missing part.

yes and women are made form the man's rib and men are made from sand and the rest of creation was made from a void

>>Will it take the Christians another 500 years to realise that the concept of evolution is correct?<<

Many, many Christians, including myself, already accept evolution.

The "rib" was probably really a baculum, which the Hebrew had no word for.

You don't know anything about biology!

If you cut a tail from a mouse, will its offspring has no tail! Try it and see! This proves that natural selection/unnaturalselection is not valid!
